EXCLUSIVE: ABC has added two more comedy projects to its roster — True Story from Jennifer Crittenden and Gaby Allan and Man And Boy from British writer Danny Wallace and director-producer Julie Anne Robinson. Both comedies are single-camera and produced by ABC Studios.
True Story, described as a female take on Wonder Years, is based on Crittenden and Allan’s experience as girls growing up with single moms in the 1970s. It is a look at what happens when a freshly divorced and boundary-less mother moves herself and 2 daughters in with her party girl best friend in Laguna Beach, CA in the late 1970’s. Seinfeld and Everybody Loves Raymond alumna Crittenden and former Scrubs writer-producer Allan are writing-executive producing through their overall deal at ABC Studios. The duo is repped by UTA and attorney Michael Gendler.
Man And Boy centers on an eccentric man who returns to his small town and becomes an important part of his young nephew’s life, imparting wisdom and a zest for life. This marks Wallace’s return to ABC. Three seasons ago, he co-wrote and starred in the network’s comedy pilot Awkward Situations For Men, which was inspired by his book. The new project stems from Robinson’s one-year development deal with ABC Studios, which includes a blind pilot directing commitment. Robinson, who is also British, helmed the pilots for ABC’s The Middle and upcoming comedy series How To Live With Your Parents For The Rest Of Your Life. Wallace and Robinson, repped by UTA and UK’s Independent Talent Group, will executive produce Man And Boy with 3 Arts, which manages Robinson.
