Modern Family co-creator Steve Levitan, Cops executive producer John Langley and BET CEO Debra Lee will receive the 10th annual Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Award at next year’s NATPE conference, association president Rod Perth said today. “The criteria is about accomplishment, things that have truly contributed to the business in one way or another. It’s all about achievement and these people personify that,” Perth said during a conference call. The former USA Network president, who took over from Rick Feldman in May, said a fourth honoree would be announced later in the fall, as would the conference’s keynote speaker. The Tartikoff Award is intended to recognize TV professionals “who exhibit extraordinary passion, leadership, independence and vision in the process of creating television programming and in evoking the spirit of Tartikoff’s generosity.”
Celebrating the organization’s 50th anniversary with the theme “Beyond Disruption,” the 2013 TV programming conference is set for Jan 28-30 at the Fontainebleau Resort in Miami Beach. Perth said he expects the event to do better than last year, which saw rising attendance after a 10-year slump. “Room reservations are pacing well ahead of last year,” Perth said.
