Warner Bros International Television Production is moving into the scripted-format export business, commissioning a local version of sitcom The New Adventures Of Old Christine to RTL in Germany. RTL has ordered eight episodes for a 2013 premiere, with Polyphon producing.
Sony TV has been the most active in setting up local versions of sitcoms from its libraries, including remakes of The Nanny, Married…With Children, Who’s The Boss? and Everybody Loves Raymond. Some of them have been hugely successful, like the Russian version of Nanny, and some have misfired, like the recent Bulgarian remake of Married, as adapting American comedies to local cultures is always a tricky proposition. Created by Kari Lizer, Old Christine aired on CBS for five seasons and earned star Julia Louis-Dreyfus an Emmy for playing divorced working mom Christine Campbell as she juggles the daily stresses and conflicts of motherhood and her business.
