Patrick Heusinger and Jenna Dewan-Tatum are set to-co-star opposite Julia Ormond in the hourlong Lifetime pilot Witches Of East End. Based on Melissa de la Cruz’s best-selling novel, Witches Of East End centers on the adventures of Joanna Beauchamp (Ormond), who has been concealing a shocking secret from her two adult daughters Freya (Dewan-Tatum) and Ingrid — namely, that they are witches born and bred. Heusinger will play Freya’s fiance, a wealthy philanthropist. Maggie Friedman, who shepherded ABC’s witch-themed Eastwick, wrote and will executive produce Witches Of East End with Erwin Stoff for Fox 21 and 3 Arts.
Tatiana Maslany (Toronto Film Festival’s Picture Day) will topline Temple Street Prods’ new sci-fi series Orphan Black for BBC America and Canadian cable channel Space. Set to begin production in Toronto next month, the 10-episode series stars Maslany as Sarah, an outsider, orphan and streetwise chameleon who witnesses a woman’s suicide. After deciding to assume the identity of the dead stranger who looks just like her, Sarah learns that she and the dead woman are clones, that there are more clones out there and that an assassin is killing them one by one. “Tatiana possesses all the intensity, charm and range that this complex role requires,” said Perry Simon, General Manager, Channels, BBC Worldwide America. “She has all the makings of a breakout star.” The series is co-created and executive produced by Graeme Manson and John Fawcett, with Manson also serving as writer and Fawcett as director.
