EXCLUSIVE: The Daddy’s Girls gang is back. The team behind last season’s NBC comedy pilot has reunited for a new project, a hybrid comedy, which has landed at CBS with a script deal plus penalty. Titled Friends With Better Lives, the comedy revolves around a group of 35-year-old friends who each think that the other has it better. It is being written/executive produced by Daddy’s Girls writer/exec producer Dana Klein, executive produced by Aaron Kaplan, who also exec produced the NBC pilot, and produced by the same studio, 20th Century Fox TV. I hear Friends alumna Klein, Kaplan and 20th TV liked the experience working together on Daddy’s Girls, which came close to a series order at NBC, and looked to find another project to do together.
This marks the 10th broadcast sale for Kaplan this season, including two pilot production commitments, one for a Robb and Mark Cullen comedy at ABC and one for a Cathy Yuspa-Josh Goldsmith half-hour at NBC. Klein is with UTA.
