Alan Alda & Norman Lear To Receive Special Int'l Emmy Founders Awards

The special Founders Awards will be bestowed during the 40th International Emmy Awards gala November 19 in New York. Both Alan Alda (M*A*S*H) and Norman Lear (All In The Family) had series in distribution in 1972, the first year of the awards, and the honors mark that milestone. “In television, as in other human endeavors, we are the sum of what has come before us,” International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences president and CEO Bruce Paisner said. “It is with great pride, on the 40th anniversary of the first gala, that the International Academy salutes these two industry legends, whose work has helped make us and television all that we are today.” Also during the ceremony, Ryan Murphy will receive the 2012 International Emmy Founders Award, and Korean Broadcasting System president and CEO Kim In-Kyu will receive the Directorate Award. The International Academy will present Emmys in nine categories during the gala.

  1. They let me know what was funny about bigots without me hating the bigot(All In The Family)
They taught me more about the Korean War than my history teachers. And made me laugh.
How much smaller would we all be without them.

  2. I love the hell out of MASH,i have the complete series on DVD,And i watch it whenever it’s on TV, great show, makes me laugh and cry in many episodes, just a great show, can’t say enough

  4. Alan Alda: Hawkeye was compassionate, wry, humorous in the wisest way, aware of his own humanness and human frailty, unjudgemental…. what a character. Instant affinity for me, and I learnt so much through MASH, as did my children. Thank you Alan Alda and the makers of MASH. I salute you ( in an unmilitary way)

  5. Go Alan!! I loved M*A*S*H as soon as I saw it! I’m so glad you are getting this honor, you deserve it!

  6. I have had the luck to grow up with M*A*S*H. I watched one reunion special, and Alan made a comment about M*A*S*H touching the children and grandchildren… I just want to say that I am one of them! Go Alan!
