Leading porn studio Vivid Entertainment is creating VividTV, a new division to be headed by Ken Boenish. VividTV, which will launch later this month, will use the company’s vast library, including its Vivid Celeb line of celebrity sex tapes (Kim Kardashian, Pamela Anderson & Tommy Lee, etc.) to start a branded video-on-demand service and a linear pay TV channel, entering a crowded adult entertainment TV/VOD space. The company says that it has secured distribution deals that would put the channel in more than 20 million homes combined.

The guy running the Vivid Cable Channel is really named Bone-ish????
It’s pronounced “Bennish,” I’m sure. The ‘O’ is silent.
Do you think they will have a scripted department? Or is that already up and running with the KK sex tape in their programming library?
Fail. No one pays to see nudity any more. Epic fail.
No way they have the money for it, but what if Vivid used this as a launching pad for original programming like other cable channels? A “Boogie Nights”-like chronicle of porn? “Sopranos”-like crime show that covers a porn family and their underworld connections… Maybe even give a few porn stars an opportunity to step it up and go mainstream. Just an idea that’ll never happen…
I’ve got the perfect scripted show idea! Hit me up, Vivid!
The problem with the porn business is how much they charge for it. Pirates of the Caribbean cost $200 million to make and they charge $5 to rent it On Demand or $20 on DVD. Porn Sluts of the Caribbean cost $20,000 to make and they charge like $10-$20 to rent it On Demand and $40 on DVD.
At this point, Vivid should have such a massive catalog of movies that they should make a channel like HBO and charge the same as HBO. The first company that makes a 24/7 unedited porn channel for a reasonable monthly rate would likely do well. The problem is that they’ll never not charge crazy high prices for it.
Once the porn condom initiative passes, you’ll have to wear a rubber just to watch this channel.
Charge 9.95/mo.and they’l be laughing all the way to the bank.
