Rovio Entertainment, the Finnish creator of Angry Birds, is boosting its LA operations as it seeks to widen its North American footprint. Former Tumblr exec Rachel Webber has been named head of development for North America where she’ll build strategic entertainment and distribution partnerships, and the video animation business. Michele Tobin, previously of Millennial Media, is now head of ad sales for North America and Naz Cuevas has come aboard as senior director of consumer products and retail strategy. He comes to Rovio from Fremantle. In 2011, Rovio brought former Marvel Studios chairman David Maisel aboard in an advisory role to help build its entertainment strategy. At Mip last April, the company announced it was going out this fall with an animated Angry Birds series that will be distributed on myriad platforms. The 2.5-3 minute episodes are being scripted by Finnish production company Moskito, which was commissioned in May. An Angry Birds feature is also in the works, but is not expected before 2015.
