NBC has extended its Sunday winning streak by segueing from the Summer Olympics to NFL football. Last night’s first pre-season game between the Indianapolis Colts at Pittsburgh Steelers delivered a 6.8/11 in the metered-market households. That was down 4% from the corresponding game last year between the Chargers and Cowboys on Aug. 21. NBC is projected to dominate the night in both total viewers and adults 18-49.
Completing a trend that affected all reality series last week that had aired against the Olympics, both CBS’ Big Brother and ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition rebounded from the previous Sunday when they faced the closing ceremony from London. Big Brother (2.3/7 in adults 18-49, 6.5 million) was up 15% to match its highest 18-49 rating of the season and post a new season best in total viewers. Extreme Makeover was up 22% from last week but down 42% from last season’s finale. NBC’s Dateline (1.5/5) matched the 50% ratings gain that Rock Center posted vs. its last pre-Olympics airing. The rest of the networks’ offerings last night were repeats.
