UPDATE: It turns out that Time Warner sent Deadline its Warner Bros statement before Christopher Nolan had a chance to vet it. Therefore the studio has issued Deadline a new statement making clear that “Warner Bros and the filmmakers are deeply saddened to learn about the shocking” Aurora movie theater shooting. The studio just cancelled tonight’s The Dark Knight Rises movie premiere in Paris as well as for all French press interviews for director Christopher Nolan and stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, and Morgan Freeman (who have not commented on the tragedy). Here’s the new Warner Bros’ and filmmakers’ statement:
“Warner Bros. and the filmmakers are deeply saddened to learn about this
shocking incident. We extend our sincere sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims at this tragic time.”

What does hollywood expect after years of promoting violence in our culture?
I am glad you took the time to make a sincere statement about the issue. But please do not blame yourself or the movie. Humans are vile and unpredictable creatures.
Some men just want to watch the world burn.
Very weak and not enough. This is a PR disaster for WB. They probably wait for another shooting before pulling the movie. Bad move.
Geeze – Nice comment. Did they tweet this? under 140 characters. Way to go above and beyond, Warner Bros
Just heartbreaking…
What a mess, or as Tommy Lee Jones drawled in No Country for Old Men, “it’ll do until the real mess gets here.”
Sadism produces more sadism and that’s Dark Knight etc. Why can’t the film and TV biz produce products that UPlift the human spirit instead of destroying souls?
Fast and Furious will forever haunt Obama and Holder.
They’re praying right now.
…I think we’ll get to see those documents.
Hollywood makes themselves mega rich by glamorizing and making entertainment out of VIOLENCE, DEATH, DESTRUCTION, IMMORALITY, DEBAUCHERY, etc.
Violence begets violence. Warner Brothers spends millions producing and marketing violent porn to an audience that spends millions to sit in air conditioned comfort and watch the sadistic brutality. Does any thinking person believe it’s appropriate to take a 6 year old to watch bombs stiched in stomachs or shoved in mouths – as entertainment?!? Our debased cultural values are responsible for the rot we call entertainent. Warner Brothers and the audience are coconspirators in this crime. If you are horrified by this crime, stop feeding the money machine that produces it.
Hollywood: When are you going to take responsiblity for these senseless acts? Keep putting out violent and sexual movies that make you tons of money and more incidents like this will keep happening. Our kids are being influenced by the trash that you put out. SHAME ON YOU HOLLYWOOD AND THE ACTORS THAT PARTICIPATE IN THIS GARBAGE. HOPE YOUR MOVIE IS A BUST. GOD HAVE PITY ON ALL OF YOU. You are just as guilty as the shooter that killed those kids.
The idiocy of this post cannot be expressed in words.
I beleive your idioy cannot be “expressed with words.” People are more impressionable than retards like you realize.
Stop looking for excuses and blaming. Stand up and have some principles and stop hurting people.
You’re expecting a mentally unstable person to have principles? You’re certainly smoking the same thing they do out in Hollyweed. Get real.
To call Gilda’s comment “idiotic” shows much of the public’s stupidity. Liberal (ultrs hypocritical) Hollywood ONLY cares about making MONEY. Historically people are very influenced by books, TV, movies……and yet the movie industry continues to promote senseless violence and sex to America, esp, our youth. In light of the tragedy–there are ignorant people calling for an end to the 2nd amendment because they blame guns. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.[Explosives are outlawed, but this guy built sophisticated bombs]. And who influences people/society?…the movies, tv, etc. marketed to us.
Yes.
Stop.
You can’t blame Hollywood, the film makers or the actors for this.
Its down to the person who did the shooting.
If you want to blame violent and sexual media start with the biggest culprit – The Bible. There’s more in there than in anything that Hollywood could dream up, yet it has no age restrictions and it taught as being wholesome reading.
The only person responsible is the person who committed the crime.
You made a decent point about personal responsibility, then undermined it completely by blaming the Bible.
I personally think it’s the fault of global warming, Happy Meals, and 64oz soda cups.
Actually, Caitlin your wrong, when the Bible speaks of using violence, its in the name of either documenting evil or eradicating evil. So the Bible’s use of evil concerns the fall of man from God’s grace. It must be documented in order for man to learn from it and refrain from its negative aspects. The evil Hollywood portrays is wonton and has no morally redeeming qualities whatsoever. The same can be said for sexual references covered by the Bible. It documents mankinds weakness of lust for the flesh (sex) outside of monogomy and uses those instances as a cautionary tale. Once again, Hollywood doesn’t teach us anything about sex, except that we should do what makes us feel good; this is VERY different from the Bible.
you’re not too smart, I for one am with Caitlin. there is an ASSLOAD of things apart from hollywood that promote violence and sex, the bible is a HUGE thing that’s started MANY MANY wars, if you didn’t know, the bible also actively encourages hate on non christians. Books also promote violence, video games promote violence..I agree it’ s dumb to bring the bible into this but Caitlin has a point
Also, your last sentence is very interesting. Most liberals believed the Joe Camel cigarette ads of the 1990’s were intended by the cigarette industry to influence younger people to start smoking. On the grounds, the liberal left got the advertising banned. Yet, when the conservative right ppoints out that wonton violence in movies and video games can influence young people to do crazy and mindless acts like shoot 12 people in a movie theater, the left screams censorship and claims the same standard does not apply. This duality in thinking and reasoning capabilty is common among liberals because the are very lazy thinkers.
Catlin was does the Bible have to do with this tragedy most importunely how is this God’s plan that killer had freewill and chose to kill those 12 innocent people may God bless the victims and their families please never add God to this person’s hayness
That’s just bull crap! You put a teenager in front of a violent video for 20 hours a week for two months and I bet you HE WILL be far more aggressive. His sense of reality..right from wrong will be diminished. Who produced that crap and made loads of money off of it?
Please dont take this personally, but you are a dope!
Right, the bible
I’d bet every dollar I own that you’ve never even read it cover to cover, have you? Your comment was not only offensive, it was entirely misguided, as it is obvious you have never, ever read the Bible.
No one in this generation reads the bible
thankfully
It Must be said that you are a raving lunatic if you think that there is No correlation between the Dumping of Graphic, Brutal, Horror flicks, and the rise in the expression of same within the population Gorging on this sh!$. “Scare the Crap out of them” is the only thing being heard “on set”. Heath Ledger himself became more deeply depressed while filming. How much of this Bilge do we feast on before we Get the connection???
You call this garbage Entertainment and wonder WHY? oh WHY? do people get Enjoyment out of Actually DOing it? When you sit in the little box with the flickering images what Role are you taking? How Real does it FEEL to you? This does not happen in a bubble of one. Wake UP!
We hear over and over again that movies, books, tv and the media in general do not influence people. This is just one of many incidents that I have seen in my 60 plus years that clearly disputes the assertion that the media does not have an influence on our society. My first experience with this phenomenon happened when I was about 8 years old. A friend, who was 9 at the time, attempted to jump off his shed, which was 10 or more feet high, thinking he could fly like Superman. Superman was a very popular tv series at the time. No the Superman program could not have influenced Frankie in any way. Frankie could not have been trying to imitate Superman, could he?
Your a moron. This guy is a loon. It’s no one’s fault but this guy. You should shut you mouth about things you know nothing about.
People are influenced, everything from their skin colour to their state of mind, by the environment they are in, is that not correct? If the environment they are in treats violence as a regular, normal occurrence, the people living in that environment will also be affected by that mentality, is that not also correct?
So yes, the environment and society that the whole creates will inevitably influence the individuals who live within it. Where the vast majority still has the common sense not to commit violence like this, there will inevitably be a few that don’t. To say it’s only the fault of the individual, in my humble opinion, is denial.
I agree. The news said there was a baby and a 6 year old at the midnight showing of the movie!
There is no way a child can understand movie violence and actual violence. Letting children watch or play games like this only desensitized them. It is a fact.
I enjoy video games and movies like this. But I am an adult. I do not let my 5 year watch or play such things. Also, they are not allowed to watch more than 1 hr of TV, and that is only a few shows that I have already previewed!
There is way to many show and ads and games that are way to violent that are marketed to kids. It is really sad.
But parents need to Stop letting children watch this stuff. Don’t let the TV raise your Kids (which can also add to the reason why there are so many fat kids. But that is another topic).
Way to search for a scapegoat. Movies are entertainment. Do you not know the difference?
It’s extremely obvious that you cannot tell the difference, either.
The whole premise behind the unconscious mind is that the UM does NOT
know the difference between a movie and reality…that is why we experience deep emotions at a movie…. because a very deep part of us does react as if the movie is in fact happening.
When are you people going to realize the movies DO affect the fantasy life of teenagers and suggest things to people who are BLURRING the line between reality and fantasy? (ex: bipolar etc.) It is on the shoulders of the movie producers…absolutely.
Never mind the gun and tear gas manufacturers and distributors. To say nothing of the politicians that make these weapons accessible to someone, whom i suspect, has major psychological issues. Or perhaps we should blame the theater owners for not installing safeguards. Or maybe the theater patrons themselves, for paying to see “violent and sexual movies.”
Absurd…
yes and we’d better ban automobiles because they can be turned into weapons and all poisons of all kinds and knives because they are weapons and planes and boats and rocks and bats and imbeciles who think that way…
And who blames Hollywood for the violence and mayhem that it seems to perpetuate on our youth? No one blames Hollywood, but ABC already blamed the Tea Party. Is this type of mentality that is going to kill us all.
Amen.
Your are spot on! We should start boycotting these insanely violent movies then maybe Hollywood
will get the message.
Are you retarded? Have you ever heard of parenting your children, and teaching them fact and fiction, wrong and right? Modern parents want someone to blame when their little Johnny does something wrong, but never consider the fact that their own parenting sucks shit. Parent you fucking children, and don’t blame others for your or their mistake.
Are you kidding me?
Have you watched the stills of cartoons? The hidden images? Have you taken a college psychology class? We are influenced by this crap, and the people (tribe) who created this knew it too, this was no secret to them. Look at filthy Freud. Look at Skinner and his experiments, and the many others who experimented on the unwanted children and mentally incurable.
All the excuses the TV and Movie junkies are making, ‘oh there’s nothing wrong with watching movies, it doesn’t influence me, I’m above it because I know it’s fantasy’ — it’s a VICE just like a drug, and your subconscious doesn’t know the difference between right and wrong.
When I was young, I was always taught that if something I was watching was beneath my morals, that I should take a stand and leave the movie…. not many people do anything like that these days. I refuse to watch “entertainment” coming out of Hollywood, not only because they RAPE you at the Box office, but because they rape you in your own state — Look at all the states that are now trying to entice Hollywood and giving huge tax refunds and breaks at the expense of the citizens of those states.
Mam, I’m sorry but please don’t use a tragedy like this as a vehicle for advocating against aspects of pop culture. People still have common sense, they know the difference between right and wrong, reality and fiction. If they say they don’t then they are lying. Someone might get an idea from a film of how to carry out sinister plans but that intent to do harm was already there, was already conceptualized. If you don’t want your kid watching violent or sexual films, then its your job to parent, not Hollywood’s.
I think it is so idiotic that people try to blame violent video games and movies for acts of violence. This is a crazed lunatic acting alone. It’s as if you think violence didn’t exist before movies violent movies were here. Ever hear of the holocaust? That happend even before Die Hard came out. Your comment is stupid, and you should feel bad.
Amen, Amen and AAAmen
You reap what you sow.
this is exactly correct. Hollywood needs to stop claiming they are caring compassionate people. they are not. they want money and they will do whatever they have to to get it. almost every hollywood movie has shooting in it; or guns being pointed with threats.
Looks like a certain somebody got released from the Maple Syrup commune early to use the Internet.
When, in this country, are we going to start holding people responsible for their actions instead of blaming it on someone or something else?
There is NO personal accountability in this country. Until there is, incidents like this and others will continue to occur.
Yes the movies could play a role… BUT the true fault does not rest with Hollywood, it rests with the parents that take their kids to inappropriate movies, that simply drop off their kids and allow them to see whatever they want, that are too lazy to use the V-chip on their TV to censor what little Billy watches, and that are too lazy to get involved with their kids when they are young and impressionable… Instead parents of today simply squirt out little Billy and then depend on the world to nurture him until he grows up… well this is the result… the result of absent parenting.
You can’t hang this on Hollywood. The guy was going for his PhD so he had been more than super saturated with liberal academia dogma. I mean, if your’ going to look to point blame, that might be a place to start. But, honestly, this guy made this choice. Ultimately he is to blame.
If you hate hollywood so much, why are you on Deadline?
Gilda honey,
For centuries mankind has unleashed a torrent of violence. Wars. Empires. Crusades. Vigilantes. Mass Murderers. Muggers. Rapists. Etc.
This has been going on since the dawn of man when the first caveman dragged a woman by her hair into his cave.
the Batman movie did not cause mankind to be violent. It’s part of our very complex human nature.
If your theory were true -there would be no violence before movies. In fact, the terrible crimes committed against the Jews during WWII would not have happened since the movies of the time were not that violent.
Get a grip Gilda.
AGREED!!!
Mass hypnosis by the mass media. Media deeply affects the mind. The proof is overwhelming to include documented copycat crimes. Psychological programming for mass sociopathy. Grown-up children of arrested development.
Sue Time Warner and the entire industry for this depraved and wonton psychological incitement.
BS. Enough with the blame. People must be held accountable for THEIR actions. This is not society, this is not Hollywood… this is a random act of violence committed by ONE disturbed individual.
Guns don’t kill people, Movies do?
Easily the most moronic post I’ve seen all week, and I read a lot of posts.
I agree. Same with American TV Reality Shows – Housewives, Jersey Shore, Kardashians – all influencing young people today, especially young women. Sex and violence sells – how it’s influencing our young people is beginning to show.
Hey Gilda… please, for “GOD’s” sake…… shut up.
Agree 100%, if one looks at the movies from years ago, you did not see the violence, sex and language of today.
I now only have 2 TV channels and am can hardly believe:
1. the homosexuals kissing and wanting to have or adopt babies,
2. the language that is being used where they have to blip it is ridiculous. If they can not speak without swearing why do they put these “garbage mouth people” in the public view.
3. the clothes boys and girls wear makes me ashamed
Yes! I say hollywood (no respect, no capital), is pushing this, how about some decent movies???????
That is the dumbest comment I’ve ever read.
Amen; it’s time Hollywood start acting like adults; and not be so greedy to do anything to make a buck.
Why can’t we have good movies; that teaches morality and kindness. Guns don’t kill; kill is done because it is taught by the media!
How much violence and murder has derived from PlayBoy or Hustler’s publications compared to Hollyweed? Make love…not war. :)
Thank you…
Gilda, you are a complete idiot. The filmmakers are just as guilty as the shooter? Ever heard of “personal responsibility”, moron?
A very ‘merican thing to say… Movies are the ones to blame for this… ssssuuuurrrreee….The wacko is not crazy he is affected by all the violence on TV… sssuuuurrreee… poor soul…
You madam, are an idiot.
It’s easy to dimiss Gilda as a kook. But what it is -is what is. Just glad we don’t hear about babys being shoot in the back often… Geez what the f!!@@
Because people never senselessly shot others pre-media.
As absurd as it may sound, there is some truth to this post. When I was a kid, the Viet Nam war was broadcast every night, and we witnessed atrocities while we ate our Swanson TV dinners. Cut to today, mass murder, bloodshed and gore don’t even merit an R rating. Kids play the most vile, violent video games and then go out for a Happy Meal. Violence has been inbred into our society. Nobody commits violence for any cause more than they do for religion, so I agree with the assessment about the Bible starting it all. It’s the ‘in your face’ graphic violence that barely gets a reaction from an 11 year old that creates a platform for all of this insanity. Add in a madman and the availability of weapons and explosives, and this is what you get.
Here’s a thought. Let’s stop pointing fingers and pot the blame where it should be
And where is that? (Do you mean on James Holmes or . . . ???)
This post was crazy. What movie influenced that Anders Behring Breivik to kill his fellow Norwegians?
Who inspire the Columbine killers?
what movie inspired that nutbag to kill Congresswoman Giffords?
Did Mark David Chapman truly get inspiration from Jodi Foster somehow to kill john Lennon?
Look there’s plenty of blame-game we can do with popular media but we NEVER let the person off the hook for what they did.
Movies didn’t inspire this murder any more than restaurants inspired that Luby’s mass murder back in the 80’s.
If you teabaggers could reign in your Hollywood-hate you might not only make more sense, you might even make a few friends too.
Though I doubt it!
How did you feel about Joe Camel? Do you think that beer companies target youth in their ads? Do you think that media and art have no influence on behavior? And why do you think ‘teabaggers’ is an insult? Are you homophobic?
At least a person of your logical bent will not be blaming the easy availability of guns for this tragedy.
People – This is America, the heartland of freedom. You have the right to attend or not attend any function, movie, social event, etc. of your choosing. If you think a movie is crap, then don’t go see it. Stop the bitching about things you can’t control and focus on what’s best for you.
Art imitates life. It’s as simple as that and Hollywood is a business not a charity or a school. Life is violent and sometimes very violent. America has been incredibly blessed to live in a mostly free and peaceful country. Think of what people in Israel, Syria or Egypt live with every day. Violence. Look around the world, there’s a lot of it. These are not peaceful times. Let this horrible tragedy empower you to be he opposite! Do something good, something great.
I have to agree with Gilda. I urge everyone to read Jenny McCartney’s piece written for the London Telegraph. It was written before the shooting. But, she was appalled and sickened by the level of violence and inhumane depravity of Batman Rising. In our society, we have a disturbing percentage of kids and adults spending weeks and months a year immersed in violent video games. Like the saying goes…garbage in…garbage out. There are many individuals out there who have spent too much of their life basicly alone and the games and movies do prompt them to act.
Kooky post, violence has been in the cinema since their inception at the turn of century.
Even Mensa IQ’ed individuals like this guy could still be mentally ill or filled with murderous rage that goes undetected until it is too late for the innocent.
I HAVE ONE BIG QUESTION……
What the hell were 3 month old babies and little children doing at a midnight showing of any movie?? Immature parents whose needs and wants come first, this is the disgrace in this horrific matter.
Well said. I thought the same thing especially about the 3 month old. What were his parents thinking?! Obviously they weren’t thinking… All in all, it’s a very sad day for everyone. My prayers go out to the families and friends of all the victims and may those who have died. R.I.P.
I know, I can’t get past that there were babies there too!!
These parents are of the spoiled “me” generation. And I’m not that old!
Right on. Pay attention to the kinds of thoughts which are flying around in your brain the next time you watch a violent movie of one of the cop shows with murders etc. What kinds of images are floating around just before you go to sleep? Contrast these with the kinds of images in your mind, after a few days for the violent ones to subside, after watching a sappy love story, or some sort of comedy, or, Heaven forbid; after listening to Bach or Beethove (with no TV or movies) or even more radical, after reading a good book which does not emphasize violent behaviour.
What you put into your brain does make a differenct.
I am all for freedom of expression; however the responsibility for super violent behaviour has to rest, at least in part, with those who implant those kinds of feelings in the first place.
Those of you that say this comment about media violence is absurd should check the facts. There is no more connection to this event to handguns than there is to the Hyundai he used to get there. BUT there is abundant evidence, actually MOUNTAINS of evidence connecting media violence to just about every shooting of this type that has occurred in the last 20 years. In fact, aside from mental instability, it is the ONLY common denominator in the backgrounds of the perpetrators. Take a mentally instable person, subject them to hundreds of hours of isolated exposure to violent movies and video games, and this is what results. Go to http://www.killology.com, read some well researched scholarly articles for awhile, and learn. Perhaps you will quit dismissing people who have a point with catty words like “absurd.”
You are a fool. STOP PLAYING THE BLAME GAME.
“The Bat-man” has been around since 1939 and all of a sudden he is a poor influence on people?
Stop the blaming and everything. Why can’tyou guys just be civil and mourn for the people affected in this tradegy? Shit happens, it’s sad but true and it’s done now so bitching about/why/ it happened is pointless. If you people have such a problem with Hollywood and this movie GET YOUR LAZY ASSES AWAY FROM THE COMMENT SECTION AND CREATE A PETITION, OR A GROUP THAT OPPOSES VIOLENCE. SPEAK AT SEMINARS, DO SOMETHING. You’re not righteous because you sit on a computer and blame people. Something horrible just happened, put away the pettiness for once and just be sorry it happened.
Unbelievable…words cannot express.
Words cannot express WHAT? You didn’t complete your sentence. It’s like when Red Skelton used to always say “God Bless”. God Bless WHO?
Probably not saddened enough to stop producing this mindless crap.
The …. oh so …. sanctimonious Hollywood liberals preaching to us about global warming, AIDS in Africa and poverty, and then peddling sex and violence to our children and teens.
hypocrites!
Sir, I find your statement to be very hypocritical. You blame Hollywood for being liberal and then advocate for censorship? What’s wrong with you? Any self-respecting conservative would understand that pop culture is not to blame and is not there to educate us on issues. Again people, stop using the boob tube to raise your kids!
You forgot to mention the parents that give their kids the money to go watch the stuff… Ask yourself what kind of parents would take a 3 month old baby to a mid-night movie showing of a movie like this? Do you think they were doing a good job of raising a decent human being or headed down the same road the parents of the killer took.
Where is the personal accountability? You blame hollywood? raise your own damn kids! Its not the governments or hollywoods jobs, stupid liberal, always blaming someone else. Milwaukee Mark you need to start understanding what true conservatism is, your liberal attitude and indoctrinated thinking of blaming everyone else instead of personal accountability is what’s ruining this country.
Because violence didn’t exist before film was invented. Nope. Kids weren’t ever exposed to world wars, nor drafted to fight them themselves. Fun fact: no one had sex until bloody Hollywood put the idea in our heads, the liberal fools!
Right. This post makes it very clear that you’re from Milwaukee…
Take it easy mill mike.. It was just a movie man. People can really get out thier man.. And society has produce another ass hole.. Been a few i’d say.
Warner Brothers is “deeply saddened”? So are the families of the victims of the psychopath you inspired, via your sadistic Batman films, to commit mass murder. Only their sadness is actual – and yours is put out by paid publicists doing early damage control to protect your profits.
Are you even stupider when one meets you in person? Or is this as dumb as you come off? One has to wonder.
For entertainment, the sadism of The Dark Knight, fits right in with this tragedy. America is a morally bankrupt country.
You are 100% correct, sadly.
Yea right. If WB was so concerned, they would not have produced a film as graphically and brutally violent as this one.
Uh, you do realize this is Batman we’re talking about here, not Hostel or Saw.
Get a grip!
Actually, reports are that this new movie is not as violent as the last one. According to the research (from what I understand), about 7 to 11% will copy the aggression and violence they see in movies, television, and video games. The rest will be desensitized and/or scared. In the movie CLOCKWORK ORANGE, young Alex is inspired by the violence the Romans used on Jesus. Reports say this guy was inspired by the Joker in the last movie, but the Joker was the bad guy and it was the news media and the critics who promoted that character and Heath Ledger’s unique performance of a psychopath.
Out of respect for the victims, I will not see this movie. I was going to take my kids to Batman this weekend, but not now. Plus, I don’t feel safe going to this movie in the theater with the risk of copycat shooters out there. I will wait for this movie to come out on video; it’ll be cheaper anyway.
Rocker, you were “planning” to take your KIDS(!) so that they could get the same “Hollywood murderer’s how-to guide” that taught Mr. Homes how to do it!?
“But, but, its opening weekend!”
You’re what’s wrong.
On what planet is this movie, which you almost certainly haven’t seen unless you were at a midnight showing yourself, a “‘hollywood murderer’s how-to guide’ that taught Mr. Homes [sic] how to do it!?”
Love most of your comment, however, “I will wait for this movie to come out on video; it’ll be cheaper anyway.” how about taking a stand and boycott it?????
Shame on all of you in the film industry who have no compassion on our children and continue to escalate the levels of violence in movies and glorify them to the detriment of all society. You who worship money, power, and all that it brings are the culprits in this horrible shooting. We are now reaping what you in the liberal Hollywood elites have sown into the hearts and minds of our children. May you look up and find the God of the universe and throw yourselves at His feet. He is willing to forgive, and then pray for the families of these children and the misguided child who killed them.
I’m thinking the gunman may have planned this in advance. Blaming the studio is asinine. When are we as humans going to take responsibility for our actions?
Amen. Amen. Amen. It’s tantamount to blaming McDonalds for your obesity. Ridiculous.
Amen — Morons like those who blame the movies instead of individual lunatics should probably be banned from watching movies. I believe millions of people watch Batman movies and never shoot up movie theatres. When will people begin placing blame where it is due — on the individuals who commit such acts. Time to give these lunes a punishment equal to the crime they commit.
You think?
If Morgan Freeman reads this.
Do you not see the hypocracy you represent. You are engaged in an industry that destroys the minds and moral fiber of this country with it’s mindless violence and promotion of easy sex. You’ve made millions doing it. Then you attack the very same capitalitic society that has made you so wealthy. But to assuage your guilt, you engage yourself in causes like ecology and poverty. Why don’t you put your money where your mouth is? My guess the reason you don’t is because you like your lifestyle too much to risk it. You are every bit as damaging to our society as the bankers, greedy politicians and corporations you rail against.
You don’t even understand what you stand for or what you are talking about. Do you not give people in this country enough credit to believe that people do idiotic horrible things on their own accord?
Amen! Right on the money.
What a self righteous thing to say. This kid, James Holmes, if, in fact, he did it, appears to be a lone psychopath who, sadly, would probably have gone on to do something like this sooner or later. It’s likely he wanted to forever be linked to the Dark Knight by his horrific actions. To suggest that Mr. Morgan Freeman is even marginally responsible is irresponsible at best.
This guy Holmes was ready to go off anyway. If it wasn’t a huge movie premiere, it might have been at a Denver Broncos football game or a Rockies baseball game or any number of venues that would have given him the spotlight, as this has now.
As someone much wiser than me once said, “Movies don’t create psychos. They make psychos more creative.”
What a sad, sad day this is.
Really. This tragedy happens and you phonies go and blame a movie. Focus on yourselves, your parenting. It could have been any movie. This is just poor parenting. Take some responsibility. If you are not responsible enough to teach your children right from wrong you are an idiot. The movie is fiction. Act like it. Stop blaming everything but yourselves.
Somehow I doubt this would have happened at a showing of Toy Story, Benji, or Cars…
By far best post. Were his parents involved deeply in the spiritual, emotional, ethical upbringing of this young man? Obviously his mother knew something of what was going on by her initial response. At what point did they lose control and then influence? My bet is at about 10 years old. I bet she knew about the guns and armor before last night too! I am glad we homeschool. Although we are imperfect, there is definintely less chance that our kids will fall off the tracks like this kid did. For those compelled to blame the studio, our dollars keep them in business! Most of the dollars they get for a movie like this come from the parents of the kids that go. We parents all need to look in the mirror. We become what (our brains) consume!
Exactly. Some of these users have no sense of personal responsibility.
i understand the morally bankrupt comments but it is pretty sad the whole idea of personal accountability is abscent in the above arguements. Someone committed murder; WB didnt arm, endorse, empower, or otherwise encourage the behavior – to blame the movie company is sad…….
word^ just be sorry, stop the hate and harsh words, like enough bad shit hasn’t happened lately…
As most I feel with the people who’ve died, their families and those hurt. But what disagree with most of the comments as of right now. You can’t blame WB or the filmmakers for this. No scientific study has proven that people who watch violent movies are any more violent than others. That’s pure bull sold to the easily led.
People in the US should instead ban these insane guns that people can buy as if it was candy.
Guns aren’t the problem. The psychopaths who wield them are the problem. Trust me, banning guns won’t keep them out of the hands of thugs or terrorists.
Blaming guns is as stupid and simple-minded as blaming Hollywood. Maybe we should also blame violent religions, like Islam, eh?
Actually, the studies show about 7 to 11% will act more aggressively and more violent; the rest become desensitized or scared. That said, PG-13 is PG-13. Why are parents taking their 6-year-old or their 3-month-old to a midnight showing of DARK KNIGHT RISES????
Deeply saddened, Warners?
PULL THE MOVIE. Cancel it. Take a hit. Be a hero, for once.
What does their movie have to do with the shooting? Would you feel better if it was in a public park?
Why should they have to pull their movie because some criminal did this at a theater showing their movie?
I’m not sure your statement holds water.
So glad that WB took time out of their day to release a generic statement.
