EXCLUSIVE: Summit Entertainment has acquired feature rights to Pennyroyal’s Princess Boot Camp, the M.A. Larson novel that had been optioned by Reese Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea and their Pacific Standard production banner. Witherspoon latched onto the book early with the intention of playing a supporting role as well as producing. It was the first project they picked up when Pacific Standard was formed in March. The unpublished novel was recently picked up by Putnam Children’s for a two-book series.
It is the first novel written by Larson, a staff writer on Cartoon Network and other kid cable shows. Larson will write the script. In the book, an orphaned girl travels to the Pennyroyal Boot Camp where she and her friends train to become warrior princesses in order to defeat an ever-growing threat of wicked witches.
Witherspoon is represented by CAA and Management 360. The book rights deal was negotiated by Janklow & Nesbit and CAA. Larson is represented for screenwriting by the Brant Rose Agency.
