Ultimate Spider-Man RenewedDisney XD has renewed Marvel’s freshman animated series Ultimate Spider-Man for a second season. The debut series from Marvel Television premiered in April to launch the Marvel Universe programming block and to date, has more than doubled its delivery in total viewers, boys 6-14, boys 6-11 and boys 2-11. Ultimate Spider-Man follows the adventures of New York’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man who joins S.H.I.E.L.D.’s exclusive training program alongside four other teens. Season 2 will have a strong Avengers feel on the heels of Marvel’s movie breaking boxoffice records. It will feature Spidey teaming up with some of the biggest heroes in the Marvel Universe, the Avengers – Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the Hulk. This is one reunion Marvel could not do on the big screen because of rights issues that prevented Spider-Man from joining Joss Whedon’s The Avengers. As Ultimate Spider-Man basically becomes Spider-Man & The Avengers in Season 2, that doesn’t bode well for Ultimate Spider-Man’s companion series, sophomore The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Reps for Disney XD and Marvel declined to comment whether The Avengers series is being canceled.

Man of Action studio will return to Ultimate Spider-Man as Co-Executive Producers alongside Creative Consultant Paul Dini. Also back is Brian Michael Bendis as Consulting Producer. Alan Fine (The Avengers), Dan Buckley (The Avengers) and Marvel’s Joe Quesada and Jeph Loeb executive produce.
