EXCLUSIVE: Paul Shapiro has joined Syfy as SVP of Original Content. He will be based in Syfy’s Los Angeles office and oversee development of all scripted content, including series and mini-series, reporting to Syfy’s president of original content Mark Stern. Shapiro succeeds Andrew Plotkin, who left recently to head New Regency’s TV division. “Paul’s depth of experience, strong creative taste, and excellent talent relationships are going to be invaluable as we ramp up development on the most ambitious slate of programming in Syfy’s history,” Stern said.

Shapiro has 15 years of experience in program development. He most recently spent four years as EVP at David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman’s ABC Studio-based Mandeville Films where he developed comedy, drama and original movies for television. From 2004-06, he was EVP at Sandy Grushow’s 20th Century For TV-based Phase Two Prods. From 1997-2003, Shapiro worked at Big Ticket Television, rising through the ranks to SVP, Series Development. Shapiro’s resume also includes stints at 3 Arts, Columbia Pictures TV and Irv Schechter Co.
