Los Angeles, CA, June 05, 2012 – Raleigh Studios is heading to China. The largest independent studio operator in the United States is proud to announce they have entered into a long term management agreement with Wuxi Studio in Wuxi, China, located in the Jiangsu province, to create a full service production and entertainment complex. The studio will serve as a hub for foreign productions seeking Chinese co-production opportunities as well as servicing the local Chinese domestic film and TV market.
The project, located just outside Shanghai, first garnered attention when Wuxi Studio named Hollywood Producer and former Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences President, Sid Ganis, honorary chairperson 18 months ago.
“It’s a big day,” stated Sid Ganis. “After years of planning and two years of building, Wuxi Studio is about to open its doors to the world of cinema production and post production. With the guidance, experience, and imprint of Raleigh, Phase One of the massive studio complex is nearing completion. And, of course, entering the filmmaking arena at this time coincides with the focus on China as a burgeoning film center.”
Phase One of the 2 million sq. ft. complex is planning to open its doors this summer. The first phase consists of six soundstages that are being built within a large rehabbed steel factory to also include production offices, visual effects, post and editing facilities, as well as space for the development of digital media initiatives including digital film processing and distribution. A commercial area housing movie theaters, restaurants and night clubs will also be part of Phase One.
“China is certainly a dynamic and rapidly growing market that cannot be ignored,” said Michael Moore, President of Raleigh Studios. “Our partners in Wuxi have done a great deal of work to make this a project that will set the standard for studios in China. Raleigh brings long standing relationships and a reputation for providing production services in a manner that Hollywood studios are familiar with and we are looking forward to playing a role in helping support the growth of this market.”
Raleigh will be managing the studio that will also include the next phase of development which is anticipated to be completed by next summer. The second phase is currently planned to have five purpose built sound stages large enough to accommodate any major international production, a water tank, and a dual purpose Hollywood style city back lot for filming as well as hosting a studio tour attraction.
The first stages are planning to be completed and open for production by August.
