UPDATED: ABC dominated primetime last night with Game 2 of the NBA Finals. The matchup, in which Miami Heat defeated Oklahoma City to even the series at 1-1, averaged an 11.8 overnight rating, the best overnight rating for a Game 2 since 2004 and second highest ever on ABC. Vs. last year’s Finals Game 2 (Miami Heat vs. Dallas Mavericks), it was up 12%. The only Game 2 to score higher was the 2004 face-off between top TV draw, L.A. Lakers, and Detroit Pistons. Two games in, this year’s NBA Finals have averaged an 11.8 overnight rating, 11% ahead of last year.
Against the NBC Finals, Fox’s new reality series Take Me Out (1.1/4) and The Choice (1.5/5) took a hit, falling 15% and 17%, respectively, from their modest premieres last week. Following a solid America’s Got Talent repeat (1.5/5), NBC’s Canadian drama Saving Hope (0.7/2) was flat with its underwhelming premiere last Thursday. Rock Center With Brian Williams (0.8/2) was up a tenth from its debut in its new Thursday 10 PM slot last week. CBS flexed its rerun muscles, with The Big Bang Theory (2.1/8) and 2 Broke Girls (1.8/6) repeats ranking as the top entertainment telecasts last night. The eye network ranked second behind ABC in 18-49 and total viewers.
