On the heels of Ryan Seacrest Prods. signing a wide-ranging new deal with NBCUniversal, the company has hired its first in-house PR executive, 42West EVP Kelly Mullens Brown who handled Ryan Seacrest’s company at the entertainment PR agency. Mullens Brown is joining Ryan Seacrest Prods. in a bigger role — she will serve as EVP of External Relations effective July 9. She will oversee communications, philanthropy and community relations and will be involved in marketing, sponsorship, strategy, and new business development, reporting to Seacrest and working closely with CEO Adam Sher and CFO Jeff Refold.

Mullens Brown was most recently Managing Director, Strategic Communications Division at 42West, having joined the PR firm’s Los Angeles office in 2006 as Deputy Head of the Strategic Communications division. She was promoted to EVP in October 2010, and to Managing Director in 2011. In addition to Ryan Seacrest Prods., her clients have included AFTRA, Peter Chernin (Chernin Entertainment and The Chernin Group), DreamWorks Animation, smartphone company HTC, writer/director/producer Joss Whedon (AVENGERS campaign), The Mark Gordon Co., Original Media (Charlie Corwin), Producers Guild of America, RealD, Rolex, Sony Television, Starz and XIX Entertainment (Simon Fuller). Prior to joining 42West, Mullens Brown spent two years as a senior executive in crisis firm Sitrick And Company’s Entertainment Practice. She was also a senior communications executive at Sony Corporation Of America and a VP of Corporate Communications at Universal Music Group.
