DreamWorks has paid mid to high six figures to acquire Glimmer, a spec script by Carter Blanchard that is described as a found footage version of an Amblin-style film, with a time travel element. Six bidders were in the mix. DreamWorks got a look at it last night and word is that Steven Spielberg called the writer this morning and said he wanted to make it. Others circled when it was circulated, with producers scrambling to submit to studios, but the deal was done by lunchtime after a frantic morning.
Blanchard previously sold the spec Near Death Fox Searchlight and he recently wrote a draft of the project Immortals at Universal. Madhouse Entertainment’s Adam Kolbrenner will produce the project and Robyn Meisinger and Ryan Cunningam are executive producers. Madhouse is prepping Prisoners at Alcon Entertainment with Hugh Jackman starring and Denis Villeneuve directing. Paradigm brokered the spec deal.
