Rapper-turned-actor T.I. will play a bounty hunter in Identity Thief, the Universal Pictures comedy that stars Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy. T.I.’s character hunts both of them, as Bateman’s character becomes an unlikely companion for McCarthy’s character after she steals his identity. T.I. is co-starring in Kelsey Grammer’s series Boss for Starz, as well as the second season of his own VH1 series Family Hustle. On the big screen, he most recently starred in and produced Screen Gems’ Takers. He recently signed with WME and remains repped by Category 5.

TI is doing really great with his career & he’s A great family man
Ah yes, another classically trained actor getting his break.
And don’t forget Rihanna. So… who are those people who say, ‘it’s what you know, not who you know?’ Not much has changed, has it.
T.I. in ATL = T.I., T.I. in American Gangster = T.I. in the 70’s, T.I. in TAKERS = T.I. in a $2000 suit, T.I. in BOSS = T.I. in Chicago, T.I. in IDENTITY THEFT = T.I. in a comedy with Jason Bateman. T.I. is a good family man because he has a reality documenting it.
This make ssense. I can see the Hollywood execs sitting around a table.
“You want Michael Ealy? Chewitel Ejiofor? Derek Luke?”
Nah, we want a REEEAL thespian. Somebody with gravitas. Somebody who can really elevate the material. Let’s get…a rapper!”
His colleagues around the table cheer. And if anyone questions this they -and some online supporters– will use some verbal diarrhea about “marketing” that is a total lie but at least gives them some rhetorical cover for this nonsense.
And this is exactly what’s wrong with the movie industry.
T.I is a bigger draw for the urban market than any of the actors you listed.
So let me get this straight, a gangster rapper, felon, goes to jail a number of times and gets rewarded with acting gigs on major A list movies, and a guy like me, who has studied acting for over ten years can’t even get arrested in this town. What am I missing?
I’m guessing talent.
damn that was funny
Great role for him… Script is hilarious, he’ll knock this out of the park.
Don’t know what is up with the haughty, borderline comments above. I don’t remember Eddie Murphy or Steve Martin being subjected to ‘but he didn’t go to Julliard…’ when they were cast in Studio Comedies. And Jamie Foxx was great in HORRIBLE BOSSES, Seth Gordon’s last.
