Los Angeles, CA (May 24, 2012) – Berry Meyerowitz, President & CEO of Phase 4 Films, announced today that the company has acquired U.S. rights to Max and Dania’s popular U.K. dance films, STREETDANCE 1 & 2. Both releases star Britain’s Got Talent’s George Sampson and Flawless and were produced by James Richardson and Allan Niblo. The franchise is produced by Vertigo Films. Phase 4 is planning a day-and-date theatrical and VOD release for the films, which have already grossed a combined $75 million worldwide.
In order to win the Street Dance Championships, a dance crew is forced to work with ballet dancers from the Royal Dance School in exchange for rehearsal space. In the sequel, after suffering humiliation by the crew Invincible, street dancer Ash looks to gather the best dancers from around the world for a rematch.
Noted Meyerowitz: “With the tremendous success these films have had in the U.K. and the ongoing popularity of the dance-off genre, we are thrilled to bring theSTREETDANCE films to a U.S. audience.”
“We’re delighted to be working with Phase 4 to give the STREETDANCE films a platform in the U.S. after their great success around the rest of the world,” said Richardson.
The deal for STREETDANCE 1 & 2 was negotiated by Phase 4’s Larry Greenberg and Katharyn Howe with Jonathan Deckter on behalf of OCTANE, IM Global’s genre division which represented U.S. rights.
