great stuff – makes me believe in “science fiction” again
I have to say, this is the first piece of marketing for PROMETHEUS that doesn’t have me thrilled. It can’t be easy to perform this kind of monologue, but if this is any indication, Rapace is going to be the weak link of the film. I hope I’m wrong, but I didn’t believe a word of this.
Yeah… For me every shot of her they’ve shown in the trailers so far have been the weak link already. So I’m guessing this is more evidence that she’s over her head in this film.
I fully agree. Perhaps I would have believed the monologue had that cast Rooney Mara in the role. . .
Nah. She’d probably be much worse than Noomi, but they’d get Fincher to direct it so you and the Academy would believe it was somehow original and nomination worthy.
Holy cow noomi is a knockout! Who knew?
No kidding! She looks amazing. I am very intrigued by her storyline…
It appears Fox is getting too cute for it’s own good with the ancillary materials. Just market the film now — it’s supposed to be smart and awesomely shot, so show that, not this bullshit. The first couple of things were really good, this is lame.
Some viral videos are smart but this one is stupid it’s confusing it does nothing to heighten audience “want to see” appeal it’s just annoying. They don’t need to do this the movie is extremely easy to market just show actual scenes there’s no need to do all this tangential crap.
I followed a link today out of curiosity to their ProjectPrometheus.com site where you can “apply for a job” with the Weyland Corporation. Nobody cares about this extraneous shit! It’s silly and a waste of time and money. The audience is not stupid so stop treating them as if they are retarded.
People are really eager to see this movie if they were smart they’d move the release date up by four days open it on Monday June 4th instead of Friday June 8th. Open a movie on a Monday?! Are you crazy?! Yes crazy you actually open the movie on Sunday June 3rd starting with 11 pm shows and by Friday you have a tidal wave of people who are even more excited to see it.
YOU must be the Life of the party!
AS much as I am DAMN EXCITED for Prometheus, and the Fassbender viral really knocking it out of the ball park – FOX and RSA stop it before we get audience fatigue. I agree with most comments here.
This looks like an audition tape with really mediocre performance by Ms. Rapaace. I have seen better work at auditions by first time actors.
No one cares about that shit? Really? Those people who paid me $25 for the plastic card to unlock a video must have just wanted to give free money out. The marketing has made rabid fans of the movie and without overkill merchandising.
i thought she was great
This is starting to reek of pretentiousness, like Prometheus is more about the sizzle and less about the steak.
I hope the Prometheus team didn’t get so caught up in reveling in its own mythology/universe that the film ultimately suffers from the neglect of the simple yet crucial goal of film-making — to tell a damn good story.
A well-told story (i.e., a well-defined conflict, complex characters, satisfying resolution, etc.) engrosses its viewers, leaving them emotionally-invested and wanting to explore more (like “applying” for a Weyland job or watching Rapace’s/Shaw’s “video application”).
Star Wars IV-VI featured relatable heroes, sympathetic villains, a clear-cut journey, and an emotionally-satisfying resolution to a trilogy-long conflict — and it’s this successful execution in story-telling that fuels the intense fan obsession with everything-Star-Wars. Without a compelling story, viewers won’t care enough to become fans. Star Wars I-III, on the other hand, cared more about fleshing out the universe and exploring SW’s mythology, while story-telling took a backseat.
Avatar has a well-defined ‘universe’ complete with a thought-out fictional language, in-universe books, in-universe “documentaries” on Pandora, etc. — yet there are no “Avatar-cons” or conventions… because the story didn’t compel viewers to care enough to become fans.
From what I can tell, they’re trying to sell viewers on the depth and detail of the Prometheus‘ mythology and universe — rather than selling the story itself. None of these silly “extracurriculars” will mean a damn if the story doesn’t demand your emotional investment or deeply provoke your thinking
Yeah, Fassbender’s piece blew you away, this was borderline lame (she does look great however).
From reading the comments I see why Ridley says audiences these days are way too dumb :( No wonder Michael Bay’s been raking it in at the box office…
I think Noomi does a great job – this viral clip is intended to be non-perfect of course, and she gives “a poor performance” – not always looking in the camera etc – on purpose, as she presents a scientist no much used to PR work. For sure she will be great in the movie. By the way, he reminds me a bit of Emma Watson’s Hermione in that clip, wonder if that is intentional – but would account why some say this isn’t good – Ms Watson’s means as an actress so far have been quite limited.
Noomi is beautiful.
I rather liked this clip. It reminds me of another Ridley Scott movie “Blade Runner”, where there was a response machine that could analyze your reactions and calculate if you are a replicant. Good Lord, what if Ridley is telling us that Alien and Blade Runner co-exist in the same universe?!?! I daresay he would explode the minds of fans everywhere.
