HLN Set To Air Daytime Emmy Awards

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and HLN made it official on their respective websites today that the 39th Daytime Emmy Awards will air live on the cable news network June 23 at 5 PM PT/8 PM PT. The move was expected after Broadcasting & Cable tipped a deal earlier this month. The last two telecasts have been on CBS but were produced by Associated Television International, which leased the airtime and sold ads and arranged produce placement deals. ATI and NATAS were unable to come to terms this year and the major networks declined to air the telecast, allowing the Time Warner network to step in. “Every day, we focus on the news and information people talk about, and that has included extensive coverage of the Daytime Emmys in the past,” HLN EVP and GM Scot Safon Safon wrote today on the HLN site. “This year, we’re very excited to also be carrying the event itself.”

  1. Thank you HLN! The Daytime Emmys should be televised. The daytime audience is undercounted and underestimated. Soap fans are very grateful!:)

  2. Thanks HLN for airing the Daytime Emmys I will be watching. Also keep up the good work with Vinny, Jane and Nancy I watch them also especially when you had the Casey Anthony trial. Tks again a tv fan.

  3. Thank you for honoring the soap world and consenting to air the Daytime Emmy Awards!

  4. Bless you, HLN! Thank you so much for supporting the fans of daytime and our beloved genre!

  5. Here in Vegas each hour HLN cuts a way to a local news report. I wonder if for the Awards that this wont happen?

  6. Nobody else wanted the program and the academy was desperate to find someone and if they could, they’d air this show on Cartoon Network, as long as they had a platform, but can’t see the ratings on this being good. CNN and their other channels are tanking bigtime.

  7. Thanks Deadline Hollywood staff for letting us know that HLNtv will be broadcasting the Daytime Emmy Awards. And thank-you also to HLNtv for making it possible for the Soap Fans to be able to view, especially, the Nominations & the Awards of each of the Soap Operas. In particular, it will be bittersweet to witness the ones for OLTL & AMC. And we are thrilled that GH is leading the pack with the most nominations of ANY Daytime show. Bravo!!!

  8. Great. More time-wasting programming for the brain-dead (and thankfully shrinking) soap opera crowd.

    1. Chrispy,

Just why do you insist upon commenting negatively on every soap article you come across-when you obviously know better…

    1. And, what, exactly passes for news on HLN anyway? I’ve already given them my thanks for carrying the show, but this is likely a one-night liberty

  9. At least it’s HLN and not HSN where after picking up an award, we’d have the soapstar try to sell you some jewelry or the latest ab-cruncher.

  10. Unfortunately DISH does not carry HLN so there is no way I can watch this show. I do watch most of the daytime soaps and enjoy them very much.

  11. With so many thousands of award shows on, there is no reason why the Daytime emmy awards have to be discredited & shoved around to a different network every year, they have a right to be televised like all the thousands of other award shows they keep televising every year!!! It is DISCRIMINATION against Daytime TV!!!!

  12. Awards not only acknowledge success of daytime television, they recognize qualities such as ability, effort, and excellence and last but not least, the struggle to succeed. Equally important to the recognition of talented actors, writers and technical support is the reward to the viewers for their loyalty and their continued investment of their time. These are the people who support the advertisers and are key marketing tools in this endeavor.
Kudos to Scot Safon, Executive Vice President & General Manager, HLN, and Malachy Wienges, Chairman, National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. It seems only fitting that a company who has built its reputation on the ““must-see, must-share stories of the day” host this award program and encourage them to get their commitment to future Daytime Emmy Awards locked in. I know HLN is where I’ll be tuned to on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 8 PM.

  13. I cannot find HLN on my list. We have a large package with Time Warner but can’t find the HLN. Am I completely missing something here? I would appreciate any help that you can give me.

    Thank You,

    1. Sorry, Arlene, but I don’t have HLN either. We are out of luck. Hopefully next year it will be televised on a channel that most folks have.

  14. Thank you HLN for this, soap fans have had it rough this last couple of years with long running shows being taken away. Thank you for stepping up!

  15. I have Verizon FIOS and have lots of channels, but not HLN. I wish the Daytime Emmys was being televised on a channel that most people have. Love “Y & R” and the Bold and the Beautiful. I have always watched hoping to see the actors on those two soaps win awards. It makes me sad that I won’t be able to watch this year.

  16. Wanda!

  17. While I am glad the awards show is going to be shown, it is a bit disheartening that none of the major networks wanted to air this. I remember the time when each of the three networks had 4 daytime dramas a piece. Now I think there is 4 left in total. To me HLN is a weird choice. I would have though if anything SOAPnet would have been a perfect fit to carry the awards show. Oh well.
