EXCLUSIVE: USA Network’s head of scripted development Bill McGoldrick has been elevated to EVP, original scripted programming. He will continue to oversee all USA scripted development of drama and comedy series, long-form and event programming, reporting to Jeff Wachtel, who serves as co-president of USA alongside Chris McCumber. “Bill has an incredible track record in developing and managing the success of our strong and diverse slate of scripted programming,” said Wachtel.
McGoldrick is a homegrown USA talent, having started at the network in 1998 as an executive assistant. He segued into an executive position in series development where he worked on dramas and comedy projects for both USA and Syfy, including The Invisible Man, Good vs. Evil and Monk. In 2003, he was named VP, series development, in which capacity he worked on Psych and The 4400. After a four-year stint at Spike TV as VP and SVP original series development, McGoldrick returned to USA in 2009 as SVP, original scripted programming, a title he held until today. Under McGoldrick, original programming continues to fuel USA’s ratings dominance. He oversaw the development of such recent additions to USA’s lineup as Suits, Necessary Roughness, Fairly Legal and the upcoming Common Law and Political Animals. He also is shepherding USA’s foray into comedy with the pilot order to half-hour comedy Local Talent starring Nathan Lane.
