EXCLUSIVE: Jason Lee has signed with CAA and the agency will also rep his newly launched production company Staircase Films. Lee formed it with his longtime writing partner, producer Luke Watson (Punk’d, Memphis Beat). The company will initially focus on television but plans to add films as well as documentaries to its slate, making it “an endeavor that allows for creativity in all mediums and genres,” Lee said. “It’s an exciting time right now, with the move to CAA, and the launching of the company. It’s a time of change and renewed focus, and looking at a bigger and more challenging picture, as both actor and producer, and I’m happy to take my now 18 years of experience in this industry and work alongside such a strong collaborator as Luke in building what we hope will be a very creatively fulfilling and prosperous company, one that will open new doors and expand opportunities and relationships.”
Lee’s a good get because he has had success on the small screen with My Name Is Earl and in features such as the Alvin And The Chipmunks franchise. Lee and Watson wrote and produced the live-action skateboarding-based comedy pilot Shredd for Adult Swim last year, with Lee directing and Reveille co-producing. There will be more on the docket. Watson is repped by CAA, and Lee continues to be managed by Gay Ribisi and lawyered by Ken Richman.
