EXCLUSIVE: Will Robert Zemeckis’ 1985 classic Back To The Future become the latest film to get a Broadway stage production? I’m told that Zemeckis is in early talks with his co-writer Bob Gale and the film’s composer Alan Silvestri to explore a stage transfer. A stage musical would be an intriguing way to reintroduce a franchise which, over three films, grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide. Zemeckis’ ImageMovers would be involved if this goes forward. The time travel film, which starred Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, holds up as well as the other live-action films Zemeckis directed. I’m still pissed that Universal scrapped the theme park ride based on the film. Silvestri, by the way, composed the music for such Zemeckis films as Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Forrest Gump and Cast Away.

Back to the Future ia a great film triology, have always loved it, but I’m not sure I want to see Marty and Doc up on stage singing about time travel. I went to London and thought it would be great to see some English theatre and what was playing? Driving Miss Daisy – the Play, Sister Act – the Musical, Wizaard of Oz – the Muscial.
In New York we have Addams Family, Spider-Man, and who knows what else? Does eveything need to be turned into a theatre act?
M, Driving Miss Daisy was an award-winning play before it was a film, but I know what you’re saying.
Wizard of Oz also has a long history of stage versions (based on a book)
Get Huey Lewis to do the music and I’m in.

Shows based on existing properties do well with audiences. Until audiences stop buying tickets, there’s no reason to stop adapting existing properties.
Look at the classic Broadway shows — many of them are based on books, other plays, comic strips, pre-existing material. This is nothing new. Movies are just another form of source material that didn’t exist back then.
By the way, Driving Miss Daisy was a play before a movie.

ive boycotted Universal Studios park since they scrapped it. Between that (for a simpsons ride?!!!) and ET (for a Deja-Vu ripoff for the Mummy), ive pretty much no reason to go now. All id do is Jurassic Park, King Kong, tour, and Backdraft then go home. not worth admission.
The original movie was funny. But please! No guys prancing around in tights. Enough.
