Sacha Baron Cohen “Outraged” By Oscars Ban: “I Applaud The Academy For Taking Away My Free Speech”

Sacha Baron Cohen Calls Movie Academy “Of Arts & Zionists”
Is Academy Blinking On Oscars Ban Of Sacha Baron Cohen?
Will Sacha Baron Cohen’s ‘The Dictator’ Walk The Oscar Red Carpet?

EXCLUSIVE: This publicity stunt just gets better and better, and funnier and funnier. Sacha Baron Cohen Today ShowThis morning Sacha Baron Cohen, posing as Middle Eastern General Alladeen from his upcoming movie The Dictator, released a video to me with his much-anticipated statement about the Oscars ban. From the Republic of Waddiya Media, it said: “I am outraged at being banned from the Oscars by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Zionists,” he said, “while I applaud the Academy for taking away my free speech.” He warned of “unimaginable consequences” if his 84th Academy Awards tickets were not returned to him by 12 pm Sunday. He also complained that he’d paid actress Hilary Swank $2 million to be his date “and she won’t give back a penny”. (That’s a reference to Swank’s paid appearance at tyrannical Chechen president Ramzan Kadyrov’s birthday party.)  He also takes a swipe at director Brett Ratner, who was supposed to produce the Oscars and then bowed out for bad behavior. Baron Cohen concluded by chanting, “Death to the West. And death to America. And good luck, Billy Crystal. Fantastic!” it’s safe to assume now that the moment Baron Cohen mentioned the words ‘Academy’ and ‘Zionists’ in the same sentence that he wouldn’t be allowed within 2 miles of the Academy Awards on Sunday. But betcha Billy Crystal makes it part of his opening monologue:

  1. How much publicity are you going to give this joker? Enough is enough and Sacha has gotten way more than his ’15 seconds’ on this.

      1. Dude, are you that thick? He put ‘fifteen seconds’ in quotes,he obviously knows it’s actually fifteen minutes but he doesn’t think Cohen is funny enough to warrant even that much time so he put ‘seconds’ instead. That’s called a joke.

        1. If that is supposed to be a joke, it is a terrible one. I’m pretty sure they would be less embarassed admitting that they thought it was ’15 seconds’ of fame…

        2. Thanks, Rich.

I am not surprised that so many did not get the’ fifteen second’ joke…but, most of these people think that Sacha is funny…when, in fact, all this is only more publicity for the unfunny Cohen.

These bits wore off about the same time Sacha wore off being funny in any way…long ago.

BTW – “fifteen seconds” is far too long for attention spent on this unfunny clown. If he actually made good films, none of this sideshow would be necessary.

          1. You say 15 seconds is too much time to spend on this “unfunny clown” yet here you are reading this article, watching this video, and leaving comments which probably took up much more than 15 seconds of your time

    1. R u serious? Cohen is the bravest comedian of our time. This is incredibly funny. You hate because you ain’t.

      1. There is no bigger admirer of Sacha than yours truly.

But it has to be conceded that, especially measured against his previous work, this is not at all brave and not really gut-busting funny.

This kinda well-worn shtick is on par with that Fox News comedy show that came and went.

    2. Dude… The man has a major career, from hit tv shows to innovative comedic movies. You are clearly a HATER. Now go tell everyone why you deserve to be in the spotlight for ’15 seconds’ instead of him. Loser.

      1. Whatever…you cannot be serious that Sacha Cohen has a major career as a comic or an actor. Only as a publicity whore can you justify his career which even then doesn’t have a great resume.

PS – I will donate my “Loser” fifteen seconds to you to enlighten us all about his major career…which should leave you several seconds left over.

    1. Not outside the industry, it isn’t. The average person, ie “those that actually pay money to see movies” couldn’t give less of a shit about this joker or his antics if they tried.

  2. Hillary Swank won’t refund her fee!!! Not only should he be allowed to attend in full uniform, he should host and win all of the awards.

  3. Why did they rush to do this? It’s so weak and not funny at all! Makes Sasha look like like douche – and I like him… Bummer all around. A perfect storm to create a lose-lose situation for both parties…

      1. Joe in SM,

I didn’t say we weren’t talking about him. I commented on why they had to rush and produce something so weak. I like SBC a lot and think that they (he and the studio) missed it – that’s all. But, if you think this is great work, then I guess you probably loved Clifford.

Read the post thoroughly next time, Joe in SM

  4. it is freakin funny that you can’t understand a word…he’s a wacko for sure….but always overdoing his welcome….

He was the worst element in HUGO..totally miscast. Come on Martin S…really?

  5. This is such an unspeakably boring publicity stunt. Does anyone outside of this site even know about this lame attempt to make press?

    1. Nope. As I stated above, the majority of America doesn’t know, or care, about any of this. It’s the talk of tinsel town, though. “Oh, did you hear about Sascha/Oscars/The Academy?” Feh… sometimes I think this entire town needs a real hobby, because they are far too easily excited by pedantic bullshit like this.

  6. Wow…this is publicity gold for this film. It would be funny if he never actually planned to attend in costume to begin with, and just put that out there to get….this.

  7. I’d just like to say like a fair few people, I thought Borat was funny, maybe, in 2006, saw it on DVD in 2009 – was a total slog. Saw Bruno in 2009 and it was just the most tedious boring film and this looks like something i’d rather dip my knackers into a blender than watch. No-way.

  8. Oscars, please do not reverse the ban. The Oscars should not negotiate with dicktators (Sic). I will be retreating to my bunker after 12pm sunday to prepare for his wrath. ps go billy, go clippers!

  9. Enough with this idiot and his schtick. Can’t we celebrate one event without it being dragged down into a publicity stunt. This schmuck is dragging the likes of Sidney Poitier, Elizabeth Taylor, Spencer Tracy, Kathryn Hepburn, along with the executives at Paramount condoning his action, into red carpet muddied with bigotry. I have enjoyed the Oscars all of my life. I dont want to see it turned into a joke. His actions are mean spirited. And should be treated in the appropriate manner…by forbidding him entrance into the event. The last thing I want to see before I go to bed Sunday Night…is his ass hanging from the ceiling. DONT LET HIM IN…bettheduck

    1. Somebody took a “serious” pill today. Loosen up. It’s showbiz. A business that centers around people pretending to be something they’re not, and acting as if they’re a lot more important than they really are.

When have we ever taken it seriously?

  10. The comments are almost funnier than the “rant.” Some people apparently don’t realize that this is “satire,” and that “Cohen” is the most Jewish surname one can have.

  11. Hollywood terrified of anything “new” and “experimental.”

Going back to Billy Crystal, who is the beloved Jew of the midwest.

Academy has had numerous chances to incorporate Sasha into the show. He was considered to host, but rejected.

Then he was going to present with Ben Stiller and dropped out over concerns with the material. And left Stiller holding the bag, dressed in full AVATAR garb with nothing to say.

They should take the chance and let him have his media moment. The Oscars ALWAYS needs talking points, and having Sasha in costume would just provide red meat for Billy on stage.

  12. Great. Joke is over now. The smartest thing in the world would be for Sacha Baron Cohen to now attend as himself, with no schtick, to behave completely and to not comment at all about this. He’s had his fun, now be a normal person for a minute.

  13. Seriously, Nikki, it keeps getting “funnier and funnier”??? Looks like a cheap, unfunny publicity stunt to me, and you keep falling for it hook, line and sinker.

  14. Lighten up, everyone! Yes, it’s a blatant publicity stunt. Yes, it’s way over the top. Yes, it’s funny. I’m glad Billy Crystal is hosting and I’m glad Sacha is entertaining us pre-show. Why not? We’re already way ahead of Franco and Hathaway’s disaster last year and the Oscars haven’t even started.

    1. I agree with you. He is only doing this in reaction of the Academy’s decision and nothing else. and he is completely right.

And yes lighten up! we already have everyone hosting and producing this show over 60 years old so let’s at least have a good time with what we can.
