Lifetime is certainly looking to make noise with some questionable casting choices. After pursuing Lindsay Lohan to portray Elizabeth Taylor in a movie, the network has cast another tabloid fixture, Kim Kardashian — this time on the series side. Kardashian has been tapped for a multi-episode arc on the upcoming fourth season of Lifetime’s Drop Dead Diva, beginning with the season premiere. She will play Nikki, the new love interest of Fred (Ben Feldman) who partners with his ex Stacy (April Bowlby) in a new business venture.
Tyler Perry recently found himself in hot water, forced to defend his decision to cast Kardashian — who has virtually no acting experience — in his movie The Marriage Counselor. Here is what Drop Dead Diva creator-executive producer Josh Berman had to say about Kardashian’s casting on the show: “I’m ecstatic to welcome Kim to the Diva family. In discussing the role of Nikki with her, I’m blown away by her smarts, sense of humor, and passion. This series is all about reinvention, and I’m so excited to see Kim ‘reinvented’ in the world of Drop Dead Diva.” Drop Dead Diva tells the story of a shallow, aspiring model who dies in a sudden accident, only to find her soul resurfacing in the body of a brilliant, thoughtful and plus-size attorney (Brooke Elliott).
