Five Actors On BAFTA Rising Star Shortlist

BAFTA announced the nominees for its Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award, which recognizes an international actor whose talent has captured the imagination of the UK public. The nominees are Adam Deacon (Kidultood), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids), Eddie Redmayne (My Week With Marilyn) and Tom Hiddleston (War Horse). It is the only Orange British Academy Film Awards category to be voted on by the public. The winner will be announced during the ceremony February 12.

  1. I like this list because, yeah, there were no women who were good at all this year (*eye roll*). What a joke.

  2. Why is everyone complaining about the lack of females as if it is the fault of the BAFTA committee? The BAFTA ORS committee selected a long-list of 8 potential nominees, including 3 women. It then went to a public vote for the final short-list of five. Though talented enough to make the short-list, apparently Chastain, Lawrence and Jones either aren’t well enough known to the public or simply didn’t appeal to them enough to get the vote.

  3. Eddie Redmayne is a star. And as to Jennifer Lawrence – hope she goes away as quickly as she showed up. Jessica Chastain is already over exposed and should give it a rest already. Felicity Jones is cute and was terrific on that UK series about the weird suburb but not quite a movie star – appealing actress yes.
