Several WGA members who’ve received awards screeners of Midnight In Paris from Sony Pictures Classics are scratching their heads over the packaging. They said that the entire cast is mentioned in the materials, in fact everybody above and below the line are mentioned–except for writer and director Woody Allen. No, SPC didn’t make a huge gaffe. Throughout his entire career, Allen has been completely allergic to any notion of selling himself for an Academy Award. If he won’t get on the soapbox to campaign for Oscar, why would he be on the DVD box?

In fact, Allen hasn’t attended an Oscar ceremony when he was nominated (20 times) over his career. He was a no-show when he won Best Director and Best Screenplay for Annie Hall, and when he won Best Screenplay for Hannah and Her Sisters. The only time he made an exception was to appear at the 2002 ceremony following the 9/11 attack, when all eyes were on New York, and received a standing ovation.
