CNN’s 9 PM anchor Piers Morgan Tonight is regularly pummeled in the ratings by its Fox News primetime counterparts. But in October, it also got beat by Fox News’ overnight program Red Eye, which airs at 3 AM. The talk show hosted by Greg Gutfeld averaged the largest audience in its five-year history (446,000) as well as 177,000 in adults 25-54. In the demo, it edged Piers Morgan (176,000) at 9 PM as well as a slew of other cable news programs in way more trafficked time slots: CNN’s Erin Burnett Outfront (146,000) at 7 PM, MSNBC’s Morning Joe (141,000) from 6-9 AM, MSNBC’s Hardball With Chris Matthews (163,000) at 5 PM and 7 PM, HLN’s Nancy Grace (157,000) at 8 PM, and CNN’s John King USA (121,000) at 6 PM. What led to Red Eye‘s ratings surge? Possible explanations include Gutfeld’s additional exposure as one of the co-hosts of Fox News’ 5 PM show The Five as well as his recent Twitter war with Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine over the rocker’s request that Fox News stops playing their music.

Maroon 5’s music is so irritating that Adam Levine has resorted to removing his clothes and bad mouthing Fox News (my favorite news source) for publicity. That being said, I wouldn’t kick him out of my bed. Just don’t serenade me.

As for Red Eye, you will not find a sharper, funnier, talk show on tv. I’m watched it from the beginning and it gets better every year. Greg and his cohorts Andy Levy and Bill Shulz bring the unexpected best out of their guests. When I watch it live, it is hard to fall asleep after LMAO for the entire hour. Red Eye earns those good ratings and so much more.
2 days ago Piers Morgan was discussing military intervention policy with Ron Paul, and low and behold Piers oafishly interupted Ron as Ron started to bring up the subject of the actual US casuality number from the Iraq War. Last week Piers interupted another guest whom was discussing job loss in the US while
importing foreign high tech workers into the US. Again Piers forcefully and suddenly babbled, Sean Hannity style, until the station break, forever ending the topic’s discussion. It matters not which one leans toward, liberalism or conservatism, so long was ideas and are allowed to be presented Piers was well trained by Murdock. He does not belong on any news network which proports to be professional and honest. Piers Morgan has no integrity nor does he honor the CNN audience. Please show Piers the door.

RED EYE is absolutely the best. My wife and I started DVR’ing it regularly this past summer and it’s become one of our favorite shows — a good mix of comedy and news content with, usually, pundits from BOTH sides of the aisle and discussions that never descend into angry “talk show” conversations like we typically see. Everything is usually treated with good natured humor.
Anyone who thinks it’s just another “right wing biased Fox show” clearly has never seen it.
Red Eye is a great show. Hip, contemporary, fun.
Piers Morgan is not. The opposite of all those values.
CNN really needs an overhaul. They have no idea how to produce compelling shows and their hosts are totally bores.

I’ve been watching Red Eye since it started. The Five is a bonus. Guttfeld is a great observor of what we take for granted, surrounded with other brilliant people.
I find it comforting to see people from those two shows adding commentary to other Fox news stories.

Red Eye: a show with an ugly logo and low wattage humor. The host, Greg Gutfeld, strains to be mildly amusing, much less funny.

Red Eye is the best show on TV, MUCH funnier than Colbert, Stewart, etc. Piers Morgan is Simon Cowell without a sense of humor; which is basically an asshole with an english accent. Greg has a satirical wit, sarcastic tone, and an irreverence that show he knows he lives in a free country. I love the fact that he slams libs in the face with his commentary on their constant hypocrisy. Red Eye is on at midnight here out West…works for us night owls. Hot guests like PAB, et. al.–BONUS!

Red Eye has gotten better over the past couple years. It used to be unwatchable for me. Now, I enjoy it quite a bit.
Been watching Red Eye for months now and its great. Funny, irreverent, topical and takes shots at everyone. The gests are people that you don’t get to see on lame regular TV. I stay up to watch most nights but I do DVR it just in case. It’s better than most of the news shows on in prime time. Don’t miss it you’ll be sorry you did.

I started watching Red Eye from the very first show. I watched it because I didn’t believe something so good would be left on TV for very long. I figured it would last a week.

It’s ratings were so good last night because it had both Ann Coulter AND Gavin McInnes. Let’s be real. Gavin McInnes kills on that show, he’s must see TV.
