ABC is finalizing a deal to buy a comedy based on the book Home Game: An Accidental Guide To Fatherhood by Moneyball author Michael Lewis, which hails from The Closer executive producers Greer Shephard & Michael Robin and writer Rob Sheridan. This is one of 2 sales for Canadian writer-producer Rob Sheridan in his first stab at development in the U.S. this year. He has another comedy in the works at ABC, from ABC Studios and Courteney Cox and David Arquette’s Coquette Prods., about a formerly overweight young woman coming to grips with her new body while managing a restaurant that specializes in calorie-rich food.
Home Game, which was adapted from a series of Slate essays, chronicles Lewis’ triumphs, failures, frustration and exhilaration of being a new father during the first year of each of his three children’s lives. Warner Bros. TV is producing with studio-based Shephard/Robin Co., which is also behind the upcoming A&E drama series Longmire. Sheridan, repped by WME and Canada’s Meridian Artists, has worked on such Canadian comedy series as Little Mosque On The Prairie and 18 To Life. He made his U.S. TV debut as a co-executive producer on CBS’ Mad Love last season.
