EXCLUSIVE: Will we see a duet performance by the Bernard brothers on The Office this coming season? Crooner Josh Groban has been tapped to play the brother of Ed Helms’ character Andy Bernard on the long-running NBC comedy series. This is the latest member of the Bernard clan to be cast as the network just cast Stephen Collins and Dee Wallace as Andy’s parents. This marks Groban’s first major TV acting stint since his star-making turn on Ally McBeal 10 years ago. (He has done a couple of voice over gigs on animated comedies and he also appeared on Glee but as himself, not playing a character.) It comes on the heels of his first movie role in this summer’s comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love., where he co-starred alongside former Office leading man Steve Carell. I agree, he’s the new boss, and it seems like we’ll be finding out a lot more about him/seeing more sides to him this year.
I think they mean this will be his first fictional character in a while. As many have stated here he played himself on Glee.
It seems pretty obvious how the plot might play out here. Andy has always been out shined by his uber talented brother with the voice of an angel. Andy’s parents say “Why can’t you be more like your brother?” one too many times and Andy flips out. Im sure Erin fits in there somewhere too… Perhaps they are getting engaged?!?!
Congrats Office producers, you’ve officially ruined a formally great show. Last season sucked with its lame musical episodes (the season premier lip synch opening? what did that have to do with ANYTHING?, a GLEE viewing party episode?! how pathetic, and then that stupid Rent song in Carrell’s last episode) and now Helms and this wuss (who no straight guy likes and that IS the Office audience) are gonna croon for 22 minutes. No thanks. Time to find a new cornerstone show, NBC.
The intro to the premier of last season was brilliant. I watched it three times before I even started the actual episode. The Glee viewing party was spot on with what is going on in America, so also brilliant. And the RENT song was the perfect homage to pay to the character Michael Scott and all the songs that he rewrote throughout his time on The Office.
Go back to watching Anderson Cooper… oh wait, you probably don’t like him anymore either because he likes to giggle.
What makes you think Groban is a wuss? He draws women like a flame draws moths. He is smart, funny and talented. Do you think we don’t notice what’s in those tight pants?

Groban acquitted himself nicely in Crazy Stupid Love. And he was funny on Glee.
Perhaps a spin-off is in the works….setting up the Bernard family as a new NBC program ?

Will be interesting if Andy becomes manager. Sales organizations tend to only promote good sales people to managers. Which is weird because people management and sales are two very different skill sets

If I recall correctly, Andy mentioned that he was given his father’s name at birth (Walter Jr.??), but when his younger brother was born, they took the name away from him and gave the name to the brother because he was “more deserving of the Walter Jr. name.”
I guess it’d make sense for us to eventually see Andy’s brother, since we’ve seen the siblings of Jim, Pam, Toby, Kelly, and Darrell. Groban is a great choice, he’s got the ability to play the character with the same WASP-iness that Andy exudes, and PLEASE let there be some duet or even a sing-off!

I had no use for Josh Groban until I saw him on Glee – he was hilarious and I became a fan… NOT of his music, but of his comedic chops and self-effacing humor. Still can’t stand his overwrought singing though.
Josh Groban was so boring in CRAZY STUPID LOVE … I get his character was supposed to be, but so was he as an actor.
