Warner Bros today released a first photo of British actor Henry Cavill as Superman in Man of Steel, the franchise reboot that’s being directed by Zack Snyder and produced by Christopher Nolan. Cavill stars with Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Julia Ormond, Russell Crowe, Chris Meloni, Harry Lennix and Laurence Fishburne. Currently in production, Man of Steel is slated for release on June 14, 2013:

The suit looks epic. AND, they finally got the damn cape right. Not sure why one would complain about it. Superman flies and the cape can easily be used for cool visuals. The sound of it billowing in the air as he floats above a city.

Dude seriously? I love Nolan but people need to stop looking to him to “save” Superman. He’s not directing it, Snyder is, he’s not Superman Henry Cavill is. Of course he’ll have his fingerprints on the movie, but Snyder and Cavill are the ones on the set all the time.

Deciding to like, or buy into, a new superhero, or worse the ‘superhero reboot’, seems to me a lot like choosing a new car. They all have exactly the same features these days – all that separates them is there colour, the newness of the model, and the brand.

Superman’s actually not FROM America, so it’s OK if he doesn’t look like every American. I think he looks fantastic, which along with the amazing cast, makes me ever more hopeful for this film!
The cast disappoints me, especially lightweight Cavill. The pictures of the farmhouse look retarded. Zack the Hack’s signature was all over that.

Why do they keep designing the suit when they can use the one from Superman returns?
That suit was awful. The color and proportions were all wrong. Besides, WB is trying to distance this film from previous ones, especially the anemic Superman Returns. Recycling the costume from that film would hardly be the best way to do that.

I’m sure the costume is going to get picked apart, but I actually like it. It’s modern, and it reminds me of Spider-Man’s new costume. I like that they’ve seemingly gone from Spandex to a more rubbery-type of material, which makes sense. Not sure why the cape looks so long though.

This costume certainly was made out of the Krypton baby blanket by Ma Kent…but, here’s a wild guess…that aspect is no longer in Zack’s version of Superman. Ma Kent bought this for Clark Kent on eBAY.
It is perfect as Zack Snyder will reboot Superman into yet another video game anyway…so, let’s make the costumes and everything else feel like a video game.

At least this time around, they had enough common sense to release a solid first picture of a new actor as Superman. The first image of Brandon Routh as Superman was awkward and off putting to say the least.

OK, as first impressions go, I’ll say I LIKE IT, but WITH RESERVATIONS.
I LIKE: The picture itself (great ‘in-action’ shot), The Costume material, The Logo/Logo size, The Cape/Cape size, The Boots (with ‘V’ shape on the rim of the boots, just like the comic)
I DON’T LIKE: an ‘S-Curl’-less hair style (that’s a Superman trademark), BAD LIGHTING (which not only skews more Batman and goes against the overall feel of the character), and MOST IMPORTANTLY, the ambivalence to whether or not he has the ‘Red Undies’ under his belt (as the comic is dramatically changing the overall costume, so I can’t tell what direction the movie will take with it).
Overall though, I guess it does give an edgy and grittier take on the HERO. Overall the basic look should work for a movie.
JUST ONE THING — KEEP THE JOHN WILLIAMS SCORE! Who’s with me?
Keep the John Williams score, and keep making Superman movies…but with a CG model of Christopher Reeves.
You haven’t been keeping up with the comics. DC is skewing all their heroes’ costumes to fall in league with the newly revamped costumes debuting in late August. If you’ve seen Supes’ new costume there, it’s more body armor-ish, no red trunks, etc. They’re rebooting the comics. Also, this Cavill Supes definitely has the Jim Lee (DC artist) “Kryptonian terror” vibe about him. Supes always SHOULD HAVE BEEN menacing. I’m glad to see the “genteel”/romantic Supes gone. Hail the planet mover!
They are trying to hide the lack of shorts in the pic by making everything dim, but that only caused the image to look like superman was trying to hide from us. Very wrong message to send.
