Brought to you by Dramamine…oy……
I’m actually excited!
I thought it looked WAY better than the Raimi crapfest of bad CGI and cartoonish characters. For some reason (probably b/c it was the 1st series) everyone raved about those films, especially Spiderman 2, and I can’t help thinking they’re the CHEESIEST goddamn movies I’ve ever seen.
He took it a step further w/ Superman Returns and it BOMBED, peace be to Allah.
Hopefully this series has more depth than the melodramatic soap opera crap we got the first time around.
Cartoonish characters? You know it’s based on a comic book, right? What the heck are you expecting?
The Raimi films 1 and 2 were probably some of the best translations of a comic-book character and story ever, which is probably why everyone raved about them.
This one is being produced purely out of greed, as others have pointed out. It’s really too early for a re-boot.
BTW, Superman Returns was NOT directed by Raimi,… just lettin’ you know.
My mistake. I forgot Singer did it.
But, Raimi did say he loved Superman Returns in an interview and I probably got them confused b/c they’re both cheesy garbage.
Batman use to be cartoonish. That was until Nolan got ahold of it and treated it with the respect it deserved.
You do know that Batman and Spiderman are two comics that are VERY different in tone, correct?
“…The Raimi films 1 and 2 were probably some of the best translations of a comic-book character and story ever…”
Clearly you never read any of the Spider-Man comics.
Agreed. blech! When will they quit casting the latest emo dork-of-the-month as Peter Parker? I hated Toby McGuire and I hate this guy.
Only thing to look forward to in this is the Stan Lee cameo.
“He took it a step further w/ Superman Returns”
Explain. Who’s he and what does he have to do with Superman Returns.
looks absolutely ridiculous.
I’m so sick of cgi – especially cgi poorly done.
Looks decent. A little darker than the first series…
I still think a reboot 5 years later is ridiculous though.
seriously. how about rebooting cowboys & aliens in 2013?
I am bewildered by this. There is a big difference between rebooting an unknown comic book property and reintroducing a beloved and iconic character to the screen after a terrible earlier film.
my thoughts exactly.
ya know, they are already planning a reboot of the Batman series and the final film in the trilogy they are rebooting doesn’t even come out until next year!
Peter Parker reminds me of Edward Cullen now. Maybe that’s the idea, to capture the Twilight audience.. those that were not born when the last Spiderman reboot happened in 2002.
CGI looks cartoonish. I hope this fails, because Im a huge fan of the three recent movies, you know.. those with acting in them.
‘three recent movies’ and ‘with acting in them’ are contradictory.
It’s insane to tell the exact same story as the first Spiderman, but Andrew Garfield is a far superior actor to anyone that the Twilight crowd has come to know. This film actually looks better than Rami’s however I have zero interest in it since I have essentially already watched it.
People on here who hope something fails are usually failures themselves. Enjoy your misery, you spiteful little gnome.
Love the POV shots from Spiderman’s perspective…great addition for this reboot, and Andrew is looking good.
That’s funny, I thought the POV shots looked like shit. Overly computer generated, Call of Duty style, looked awful. They should have tried it practical.
Absolutely, the POV shot *could* have been fantastic if it didn’t appear so computer generated.
Does the name Spiderman itself guarantee an audience for such a recent reboot? The 2002 Spiderman feels like yesterday and isn’t yet remotely dated. Indeed that had a far superior trailer, perhaps the best ‘super hero’ film trailer of the decade.
so I’m NOT alone!! I commented earlier – WITHOUT reading any comments what-so-ever. The CGI is just ridiculous. So poorly done — and don’t tell me ‘it’s not finished’ — it’s finished alright … complete waste of $100 million or more.
Stick a fork in it. They might sell it to a stupid public … but at what cost to the franchise? Hulk anyone?!?!
You stupid DICK! how old are you? if you’re over 25 than this reboot is not for your stupid ass. it’s for 18 – 24 who aren’t aligned to the aged vestiges of Spiderman that your old ass may coven. Reboots are not for previous demographics — You’re not in the picture!
I agree! Seriously how hard would have it been to just actually film them then speed it up later on?
“Indeed that had a far superior trailer, perhaps the best ‘super hero’ film trailer of the decade.”
Your claim is debatable. What isn’t is that trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KW8stZ2jSQ) was a theatrical trailer. This is a teaser.
Although this looks pretty cool, I just don’t think we need it. The Maguire/Raimi Spiderman origin story wasn’t even 10 years ago. The artistic vision doesn’t validate the repeat.
Why was this movie made? Greed.
Hollywood bums me out again.
Right? Not only do we get superhero after superhero, but now we’re getting the same exact movie all over again. I already saw this movie!
Makes me sad.
I agree. I have seen this movie already! Nothing particularly interesting at all in the entire thing, except maybe the presence of Martin Sheen.
right x2 – and to add to that I think it’s a shame that spiderman and superman get remade/booted in the same decade and we can’t get ONE good wonder woman movie?
NO you HAVEN’T seen this movie before. OBVIOUSLY there is greed behind Sony’s motivations, welcome to business, welcome to commerce. This is the story that should have been told BEFORE Peter met Mary Jane Watson; WITH mad made web shooters that highlighted the fact that “this kid IS a genius”, something COMPLETELY overlooked in the last series of films. Raimi gave Spider-Man great life, but it was too too cheesy. This actually looks like it has some meaningful depth ( as meaningful as you can get for this type toward this demographic).
Stop whining about people making their money and go make your own. Gos support the economy and see the film. It’s being made whether you like it or not, so just enjoy it.
“Why was this movie made? Greed.”
That seems like a cynical snipe to me. Of course it is made to make money: all studio films are made to generate money. What matters more is the skill to which the film is made and the talent behind and in front of the camera.
Is it me or does it look like they cut off Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst’s heads and replaced it with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stones’s?
No. No it does not.
For some reason I’m not ‘feeling it’ per say. I’m not a hater, but simply not connecting to this trailer.
The origin, again? With the spider bite, mirror looking, trashing room, rooftop jumping all over again? This looks well done, but it’s so damn boring. It’s like Superman Returns–we’ve all seen this before.
I’m not a comic book geek, not a fan of most summer blockbusters, but that trailer just made me giddy
Why a ‘reboot’/’remake’? The last trilogy is still fresh in our minds and was greatly successful. Is it to capitalize on Garfield’s & Stone’s rise to stardom?
Yes, they decided to reboot the Spiderman franchise just to capitalize on Garfield and Stone’s rise to stardom.
“Is it to capitalize on Garfield’s & Stone’s rise to stardom?”
No. Garfield was cast after Red Riding and the Gilliam film, but before The Social Network and Never Let Me Go. As for Stone, her role was one of the most coveted of young actresses in Hollywood.
It looks pretty good, I just don’t think it is going to do the kind of numbers that the Raimi films did at the box-office. Especially in the same summer as “The Avengers” and “The Dark Knight Rises.” It’s too soon to do another reboot of this material. Especially since the last origin story came out 10 years ago.
I was in until the horrible special effects sequence that looked like a cartoon.
I know, right. What’s with the horrible running. It looks like a first-person video game. Awful.
with you there. looked like a video game cut scene
Want to see a scene done well in RPG style … watch KickAss … there’s a great few minutes there.
There is a year to go on post-production. Complaining about visual effects at this stage in a film’s evolution is a little premature. just look at the responses to the first trailer of Avatar.
we need a spiderman reboot about as much as we needed a spiderman musical
kind of wish someone would go back in time and hire stan lee as advertisement editor
he could have been a character on mad men
and we would be free of all these preachy underwear hero CGI crapfests
Huge mistake making this a reboot. Did we learn nothing from “The Incredible Hulk”?
Audiences accept recasting and darkening of tones. Imagine if Bond had to reboot every time they recast? We don’t need to see Parker bitten by the spider again. It’s barely been a decade.
At the very least, this teaser should have established that the villain is NOT Green Goblin. It’s going to be very interesting to see how this film does. I suspect it will fare worse than Sony expects it to, strictly because auds will feel like they’ve already seen it.
Yep. This and Man of Steel are going to flop big time, because auds will feel like they have already seen these movies. The Bond franchise has been around forever, pointing the way. Even Batman didn’t reboot every time they changed the lead. It is incredibly stupid.
Another “why is this being made?” post. This would have been just fine without Raimi’s take but there are other worlds to explore long before this gets remade again.
Their best hope for serious box office and a new audience would have been to cast Justin Bieber as PP. Oh lord, just the thought….
I think they have to keep making them or the rights to the Spider-Man movie franchise will revert to Marvel/Disney. So they can’t let it sit on the shelf for too long.
Like Nikki said in an earlier post, Sony may regret cutting ties w/ Raimi. Sure this will be cheaper, but given how well Pirates 4 did overseas, Spidey 4 probably would have been a lock for nearly a billion dollars.
Perhaps this film won’t be as successful as, say, Spider-man 4. However, it is difficult see Raimi’s franchise lasting after one more film (does anyone want to see a Peter Parker that is 40). A new start new start can mean a franchise beyond one more film.
I don’t know. I just don’t know.
It feels like they’re taking a “Dark Knight” approach. But that aesthetic just doesn’t feel like Spider-Man, for me. Big gamble on doing the origin story again, less than 10 years from the Raimi versions. Ambivalent.
Yep. They even cop the Dark Knight music as the thing wraps up (though it seems everything does these days).
I love this cast though. A lot.
Looks good to me. They’re keeping true to the original comic. And Garfield looks the part. Maguire never did.
It’s like deja vu all over again…
watching this trailer just brought back all memories of the old spider-man movies .. i miss those… they were great. surely 3 wasn’t that good but it was fun … this looks laughable. i’ll pass
looks like a videogame version of the original.
Terrible CGI. Looked like the recent TMNT movie.
I’ve seen this movie before…
Mr. Parker, how can you have seen the movie you were a character in?
This looks awesome!
I thought this was a joke at first- is a remake REALLY necessary? Nothing against the actors – i love them both. anyone else feel like they are just running out of ‘super hero’ ideas
This movie will be the most important for the future of comic book films.
If Sony can get audiences to see a remake of a film franchise made within a generation to that same generation, then Hollywood can defecate out films forever by just altering the mood and changing the actor.
This movie is probably bad but that means nothing when only one film opens per week and we are all forced to see it by habit.
We shall see just how dumb America and the world has become.
Transformers (2007) Opening WE – $70.5m
Transformers: DOTM (2011) Opening WE – $97.8m
Yeah. I think America has already proven their taste level
Hahaha…. I have to agree with you on that. I mean, look at what “Batman Begins” did. It inspired “Casino Royale,” “Star Trek” and “Man of Steel” among others. Imagine what this movie will do if it’s successful. When Robert Downey, Jr. is done playing Iron Man, maybe they will make a fresh new origin tale with a new actor.
I have the same hair thing on the back of my neck. It keeps growing out whenever I tweeze it. Anyone know of a solution?
