EXCLUSIVE: Sex and the City creator/executive producer Darren Star is back at HBO with a sexy female-centered comedy project, this time about the boomer generation. In what would be her first acting gig in a decade, Oscar winner Goldie Hawn has come on board to star in the half-hour comedy, The Viagra Diaries, which is based on the book by Barbara Rose Brooker. Star is writing the script and is executive producing the project with Hawn, Aaron Kaplan and Wendy, Peter and Alan Riche. It centers on a woman
(Hawn) who, after her husband has a “mid-life crisis” at 65 and leaves her, struggles with being single for the first time in 35 years. Brooker’s novel was first eyed for a feature, with husband-and-wife duo Alan and Wendy Riche and their son Peter attached to produce. It was subsequently optioned by Kaplan, who took it to HBO with Star signing on to write and executive produce. The project was then taken out to Hawn, who, after lengthy consideration, agreed to topline the potential series in what would be her first role since the 2002 movie The Banger Sisters. Her managers Brian Medavoy and Alan Nevins are also executive producing. After a start in television on Good Morning, World and Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In, Hawn transitioned to features, starring in a string of comedies and earning two Oscar nominations. (She won in 1970 for Cactus Flower.) This marks Star and Kaplan’s second series collaboration. They are executive producing together the midseason ABC dramedy series Good Christian Belles. Hawn and Star are with UTA.

I love all of Barbara’s work, she is a great artist, writer and activist. I live everyone else, totally adore Goldie Hawn. I can not wait to see the final presentation. It is gonna be a feel good movie everyone needs in these times. Love Goldie, Love Barbara.
I like everyone else totally adore Goldie Hawn.
Love Goldie, glad to see her back in the saddle!
Really?
alan riche is one of the greatest guys i have met in this business. always good to me even when i was a lowly assistant. i wish him nothing but the best and happy for him for this project and the emenem one too.
Wasn’t Sex and The City about 65 year old vaginas?
no… 35 year old vaginas… but it’s nice to see 15 year old penises could type… even if it’s stale jokes
It’s called a “woman”. They have vaginas. Sorry one hasn’t loved you yet.
So funny to reference the hit show about women. Strong position.
Who wants to see Benjamin’s privates now?
So happy to hear that this wonderful book is being made into a comedy – it was hilarious to read!
Love Alan Riche, see you at Factors or Canters to celebrate!!! Maybe this time you can pick up the check? HAHAHAHA
Goldie Hawn having a mid-life crisis at 65? How many people live to 130?
Regardless of some people’s self-delusion when it comes to age, I’m looking forward to this. Hopefully Goldie gets some work done first because recent photos of her have not been pretty.
Goldie looks fabulous just as she is! She is smart, funny, sexy, and loved! I watched her in laugh-in……on up to now! Been told I look like her……….I am 51 this year………..how do YOU look? Plastic Surgury is Plastic. She is the real deal, and all woman.
Love her, and she glows………..
Is the show sponsored by Viagra? Title tie-ins now? It’s hard to get over the title. The show’s description sounds good, but the title makes it sounds like an infomercial.
Goldie is the greatest!!! she should still do more movies though- Between this,”Hung”, and “Game Of Thrones” HBO will be my go to for entertainment, hope its better than the “Veep” pilot-Ugh
Glad for Brian…good guy!!…people love to hate, but this guy works hard and is very smart. nicely done.
????
Not the real person, disregard.
Yayayay Goldie!! Can’t wait to see who they cast around her!
Who doesn’t love Goldie Hawn? Welcome back :-)
100% agreed!
Lovely to see Goldie Hawn back. She is a wonderful comedic actress and I have missed her dearly.
Goldie hawn is one of our most gifted, most hilarious actresses and I’m so glad to hear that she will be working again. I wish she would do more! great news.
glad to see Goldie is back. she’s been missed
The article mentions that Wendy Riche is attached to this project as an executive producer. Is this the same Wendy Riche who was an executive producer on ”General Hospital” back in the ’90s?
I cant believe its been almost TEN years since shes graced our screens? Why the hiatus?
Alan Riche is my nephew whom I love dearly despite the fact that he pokes fun at the Phoenix Suns and his old Uncle when the LA Lakers beat us.
Wendy, Peter and Alan are a great team in themselves. I know that with Goldie Hawn they will make a great HBO series! I just hope that Alan does not raise our basketball bets above the regular $2.00 bet per game. The economy in Phoenix is not so great right now!
I love you all as does Ducky!
Uncle Bob
Shouldn’t that be “The Estrogen Diaries”?
Yes, really. It’s been far too long since a real comedic genius had their own show. I’m still laughing at Goldie’s turns in”Housesitter”, “Death Becomes Her”, and “Overboard”.
Sure, they’re old movies. But her comedy chops are timeless. I grew up on these films. She’s the female Bill Murray!
I LOVE GOldie Hawn! She is the best we have and is an inspiration to women of ALL ages.
Also, who is better than Darren Star?
A HUGE FAN
Alan, Peter and Wendy Riche are three of the greatest people in show business. They are kind, respectful and amazing to work with and I am honored to know them all. I wish them nothing but the BIGGEST success and have no doubt this will be a great project.
My name is Dana, and I am a makeup artist and skincare expert. One of these comments said that Goldie needs work………Girl Goldie, you don’t need work! You are a piece of work…….of beauty, sexiness, wit, humor, and tenacity……and uh, who is the person who said this who suggested she needed “work”? Look in the mirror. Beauty, class, and sassiness can’t be bought, or nipped and tucked………and she has it all…….Go girl!
