UPDATE: Word is that NBC may be done with its drama pickups, though there is no official confirmation on that and no calls have been made yet to the producers of the hourlong pilots that have not gotten a pickup yet, including Stephen Gaghan’s Metro, David E. Kelley’s Wonder Woman and Michael Patrick King’s A Mann’s World. ![]()
PREVIOUS: NBC just kicked off its second day of pickups with orders to Kyle Killen’s Inception-style Awake (form. REM) and Chad Hodge’s 1960s The Playboy Club. Both hail from 20th Century Fox TV (Playboy in a co-production with Imagine TV) and have been widely expected to get the nod. Playboy has already zeroed in on a showrunner, Shark creator Ian Biederman. NBC seems to be going studio by studio, starting off with UMS’ Whitney, Up All Night, Prime Suspect and Smash yesterday, now adding 20th TV’s Awake and Playboy. NBC also just picked up another UMS pilot, the fairytale-themed Grimm, which didn’t make the cut yesterday but remained in contention.

On behalf of all Buffy and Angel fanboys (or in my case, men) out there:
GRIMM!!! Give it a chance, Greenblatt. It’s the only show you greenlit (besides Precint, which I heard was a mess) that involves visual effects and fantasy and gruesome fairy tales … Once Upon a Time ain’t gonna go at ABC, so how about greenlighting a show by writers who have proven themselves to be consistently inventive. Buffy? Angel? Profit? X-Files? And now it’s on the bubble?
By the way, there are several online polls regarding favorite NBC drama pilots, and GRIMM is coming in FIRST, followed by Playboy, then Smash.
Once Upon a Time is getting huge buzz and IS likely a go
GRIMM!!GRIMM!!
wow. between this and the film she’s in at Cannes being the first acquisition by the Weinsteins, Bitsie Tulloch is having a good week. go have a cocktail, hottie!
nerd
Grimm is also picked up!!
Your wish has been granted.
First of all, no. Grimm sucked. End of story. Bland characters, weird/abrupt ending, and basically just a procedural with a SLIGHT fantasy twist. Did you read it? I challenge you to find a single interesting character in that script. Second of all, Once Upon a Time IS gonna go at ABC, and it’s a much stronger pilot. Third of all, Once Upon a Time’s future has exactly 0% to do with Grimm getting picked up. And finally, an online poll including a show involving Buffy/Angel writers? Color me shocked it’s somehow in the lead. Buffy/Angel fans are more rabid than Ol’ Yeller, not surprised they’re packing the polls.
Eureka didn’t have a good pilot either and that turned out to be a great series.
whatevs, debbie downer. sorry your pilot didn’t get picked up.
a fan is a fan is a fan.
Go Grimm!
Well said WPS&G! My sentiments exactly.
You’re an idiot. Grimm script was so well crafted. A modern spin making the “Little Red Riding Hood” tale actually non-fiction was brilliant. Another no-talent on this board no doubt.
YAY GRIMM!!!!! I’m going to start referring to Greenblatt as Robert the Great. Way to go. This line-up is looking amazing.
GRIMM :)
Saw the screening of “REM” Retool. Heard they are recasting the son.
Too busy won’t last more than 3 eps.

I hope he passes not just to spite you.
*now
I wasn’t being a dick, dude. I was just expressing that I really wanted Grimm to be picked up.
If PLAYBOY got picked (which I do not know why) What does this mean about RECONSTRUCTION, by JOSHUA BRAND
How about Grimm? There is no hope for it, or maybe it will be the last choice because is still in contention?
I want BENT.
Cosign.
im so glad that “the playboy club” got picked up. yyyyeeeeessssss :-)
I know, right? My most anticipated show. I`m so happy now.
I really need to know more about ‘Awake’ because “inceptions like’ makes me LESS interested so I’m hoping that’s not an accurate description.
I’m hoping to hear something about Grimm…and of course Wonder Woman.
Awake is Fringe done as a police procedural.
It got great reviews.
Fringe + anything sounds good enough for me. Sold.
Not even a little bit true.
YES — let’s please all stop referring to Awake as “Inception” like… There is nothing inception like about it. It’s more akin to Jacob’s Ladder than Inception. Or how about calling it “Stay” the series… Oh yeah, nobody saw that movie.
It’s about a guy who lives two lives. One is real and one is not.
Or as they’ll tell us at the end of season one in the “Series Finale”… if it makes it even that far. None of the lives are real. It’s all a dream and he’s fantasizing what could be, at the very moment before he dies.
So it’s Life on Mars meets St. Elsewhere.
What it’s not — is a show anyone is gonna want to watch for multiple seasons. I mean how long can you keep doing two A-stories each week with two sorta different sets of characters and then have the lead go “gosh darn it, I just don’t know which is real” again and again and again and again…
Are you so sure that one of the lives is real? Could it be that they both are? Or, maybe they both are not real- he’s just in a coma or insane?
Isaacs is a phenomenal actor. I have watched all of the ‘Brotherhood’ episodes.
I will be happy to give Grim a chance. Talented brothers who historically have had their masterpieces repeatedly rewritten; they would love the idea.
Playboy- who gives a @%&*. Frankly I am tired of seeing the same old worn out “local girl makes it big” malarky. But, it gives men another day to be couch potatoes.
Jennifer Salke to Bob Greenblatt. I’m sure we’ll be hearing that a lot.
What about Metro?
I think it was that really unwieldy pilot that used to be called SILA or something like that… But yeah… Anyway, it was a really melodramatic, wannabe realistic – but too soapy by half and trying too hard by lots more than half to be intelligent — but really just a big hodgepodge mess that may have a few good scenes, but like this statement, just all runs on and on and bleeds together with no cohesion or entertainment value or hope of sustaining a series. So yeah — it’s not getting picked up. Cuz nobody – not even Gaghan could tell you what episode 20 let alone episode 3 was gonna be on that big hot mess. Nice to be ambitious, but when it’s just for the sake of ambition alone and doesn’t really work — well — no point in putting it on the air.
Wonder Woman should be picked up too. The pilot wasn’t that bad but need retooling. NBC should pick it up.
But I’m happy Playboy and Grimm are picked up – two of the best pilots I’ve seen this season
thanks nbc!!!
I wonder since NBC picked up PLAYBOY, if ABC will pick up PAN AM?
i have no doubt that PAN AM will be picked up at ABC. I’ve considered it a lock for quite awhile since the buzz around it is great!
i may be an overweight nerd, but THANK YOU NBC for GRIMM!!
Nearly every critic has been raving about the Awake and Playboy scripts.
Need Help Wanted picked up please
I wish ABC would start picking some stuff up, I have no patience. Their shows are what have me most excited.
I am so excited to see Playboy!!!!!! So happy NBC knows what they are doing and picked it up!
Grimm was an AWFUL pilot. Awake and Playboy were good though, Awake in particular.
Another yay Grimm!
It looks like ONCE UPON A TIME is getting picked up at ABC. Does that mean POE won’t? The POE script kinda stunk.
So glad AWAKE made it. I can’t wait to watch this show!!!
PLAYBOY!!! I am so excited! Go NBC!
No interest in watching the version of Playboy that’ll air on NBC when the international version will reportedly have all the good stuff.
Mad Men doesn’t have the kind of sex that would piss off network censors either.
Where did you see Grimm? I was the Key Grip on the pilot. Sounds like you enjoyed it
PLAYBOY is CRAP. NBC should have picked up RECONSTRUCTION, by Joshua Brand (Northern Exposure and I’ll Fly away. RECONSTRUCTION is so much BETTER!!!!
What? It has nothing to do with fringe. Think more life on Mars. (questioning whether main character is in a coma… Thus, Awake)
