UPDATE: Insiders are telling me I jumped the gun on this, but I’m sticking with my story about Kate Beckinsale being asked to join the film. I am persuaded that she will be starring alongside Jessica Biel when all is said and done. Stay tuned.
EXCLUSIVE: Kate Beckinsale has been offered one of the female lead roles alongside Colin Farrell in the Sony Pictures remake Total Recall. I’m told she’s been offered to play Lori, who was portrayed in the 1990 Paul Verhoeven-directed actioner by Sharon Stone. In fact, that role really launched Stone’s star after she transformed from the happy spouse of Douglas Quaid (Arnold Schwarzenegger) into someone completely different.
Both that role and the role of Melina (played in the original by Rachel Ticotin) has drawn high interest from actresses. I’ve heard that Eva Mendes and Rosario Dawson are the serious contenders for the latter role. Beckinsale wasn’t among the names most often mentioned among actresses who read for Lori. But she certainly has a track record with the film’s director, Len Wiseman. They’re married, and before that, worked together on the Underworld films. Beckinsale, who just wrapped Contraband with Mark Wahlberg, is also attached to star in The Trials of Kate McCullough, to be directed by Karen Moncrieff. She is currently shooting Underworld 4: New Dawn, so we’ll have to wait a beat to see if she accepts. She’s repped by WME and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
I’d rather see her as the three breasted woman.

Schwarzenegger + Verhoeven = ruined story with over-the-top cartoonish, pointless violence. Typical Carolco crap (except for T2). MTV – Muscles, tits, violence. PKD’s story wasn’t like that at all. Much more of a head trip than Verhoeven, whose first few movies showed real promise, ultimately could muster. The only really good PKD adaptation I can think of was Blade Runner.
unless I’m thinking of another Phillip K Dick story – the hero in ‘Total Recall’ comes over as a neurotic “woody allen” type.. ordinary joe smo.. hardly the type to be the hero in an action movie now is it..

Why give your vampire/werewolf movie a title so similar to 2 other vampire/werewolf movies that are derided by your general audience?And even though your Underworld predates the Twilight book by 2 years and the movie by 5 years, it kinda seems like they’re trying to ride Twilight’s coattails.It should have just been Underworld 4.
They are riding Twilight coattails big time. UW4 will introduce Selene`s teenage daughter (yep, totally Twilight) who is supposed to replace Selene in later sequels which I don`t see happening…this will go down like Blade:Trinity where they tried to set up a spin-off with teen-friendly cast and it never got off the ground.
How the hell can they be riding Twilight’s coattails, when Underworld came long before a Twilight film, not to mention it’s far better than Twilight.

Why? Why? Why? This is the remake that should not be.
the first movie isn’t even that good, and this remake won’t be exciting either… too much “riding on it” for it to compelling.
I don’t want to see Eva Mendes or Rosario Dawson in this, why not Rosalyn Sanchez or the girl for MARIA FULL OF GRACE or the woman from PAN’S LABINYTH or better yet find a new face! Otherwise, go with Jessica Alba… she needs a career boost.
As for casting Kate Beckinsale, her last movie WHITE OUT was bizarrely satisfying, but I couldn’t tell you why or recommend it. But since it tanked, the lure of Underworld 4 seemed brighter to revive her career.
Wiseman shouldn’t have cast his wife, bet this ends up like LONG KISS GOODNIGHT.

I don’t have a problem with the casting. I have a problem with the movie. And in the hands of Screen Gems? Guaranteed mediocrity.
This could work. Beckinsale could play the scheming ice queen role well, and she’d be a good contrast to Eva Medes or Rosario Dawson.
How about we just ensure a bit more box office success by replacing the lead actor with Dwayne Johnson? It would make more sense. Furthermore, if any Arnold Movie should be remade, they should remake “The Running Man” over anything else.

What happened to Jessica Biel? I don’t get the hate on Farrell in the role; they’re obviously going in a different direction i.e with someone who can actually act.
So first comes a remake of Conan, and now a remake of Total Recall. If people are so high on the Arnold remake idea, how about these projects:
– Remake Commando with Dwayne Johnson (wait, been done as ‘The Marine’ already with John Cena, hasn’t it?)
– Remake Raw Deal (also with Dwayne Johnson?)
– Remake Last Action Hero (with Vin Diesel?)
– Remake Junior (with Taylor Lautner?)
Come on, guys, I’m literally printing money for you with these brilliant ideas….

The only thing that could make this thing worse is Tyler Perry as the wife.
It’s pure nepotism, sure, but I reckon she would be ace as a conniving bitch. She’s always got a touch of Last Seduction about her, this could work well.
The director (her husband) should reconsider the casting decision and cast Jessica Biel. Biel’s a pretty decent actress that has basically been window-dressing in most of her films.
Biel is a red carpet babe, not really an actress but she can probably pull this off. I’m cool with Kate but like many on this board would like to see a no name.
A remake that shouldn’t be made. But if it is I hope Mario Kassar is involved.
I have a great idea. Let’s make movies from new ideas for movies, not adaptations of books, video games, comic books, previously released movies, board games, tweets, articles, graffiti/bathroom scrawls, napkin manifestos, and things shouted from a moving van.

Screen Gems needs a remake. If they tried, even just a little, to create something decent, they’d land their movies in the 50-100 range, instead of the crap 20-40 range.

You guys need to remember her and her husband, have worked together before. He wrote and directed the 1st 2 Underworld movies and produced the 3rd. I would love to see Michelle Rodriquez in the other part, the only one I cannot see is Coin Farrell (sorry Colin).
The only reason I think that Kate B got to read the script, if she did that, I think her name was just put out there, because she is extremely, extrememly close the the Executuve Producer Ryan Kavanaugh.
Remakes will always happen, no matter what, hopefully the writing will be okay and with his directing we wont mind watching it.
Just read all other comments. I disagree that this movie shouldn’t be remade. “Totall Recall” is, to me, a great science fiction movie. It had what today’s movies don’t have. A good storyline. If it was to be remade, it would contain, in my opinion, more visual effects than a storyline. Call me “old fashion” but I like more storyline than visual effects. And the original had a lot of both. Now, about Kate being the three reasted martian…Heeell Yeeeah!!:-P question is, who’ll play the midget in the bar?:-)
