Scott Porter has been tapped as the male lead opposite Rachel Bilson in CW’s drama pilot Hart of Dixie. The project, from writer Leila Gerstein, WBTV and Fake Empire, is a comedic drama centered on Zoe Hart (Bilson), a young New York City doctor who inherits a medical practice in a small Southern town inhabited by an eclectic and eccentric group of characters. Porter, repped by Gersh and Brillstein, will play Zoe’s romantic interest, a charming and gallant local attorney who is engaged to marry, the daughter of Zoe’s competitor at the medical practice.
Matthew Moy, Garret Morris and Jonathan Kite have been cast in CBS’ comedy pilot Two Broke Girls, co-written and executive produced by Michael Patrick King and Whitney Cummings. The project, from Warner Bros., centers on two girls from very different backgrounds – Max (Kat Dennings), poor from birth, and Caroline (Beth Behrs), born wealthy but down on her luck – who wind up as waitresses in the same Brooklyn diner, and strike up an unlikely friendship that could lead to a successful business venture. Moy will play the owner of the diner where the girls work. Morris, repped by Global Artists and the Priluck Co., will play the diner’s cashier, and Kite – the diner’s Russian cook.
Wendy Crewson (Winnie) has been added to ABC’s drama pilot Georgetown, about young staffers on Capitol Hill. Crewson, repped by Domain and Perry Zimel, will play Senator Caroline Wallace, the GOP minority leader.
Saturday Night Live alumna Ana Gasteyer has joined ABC’s comedy pilot Suburgatory as a guest star/recurring. The pilot, from creator Emily Kapnek, centers on Tessa (Jane Levy), a teenage girl who moves with her dad George (Jeremy Sisto) from Manhattan, where she grew up, to her version of hell: the suburbs. Gasteyer will play their neighbor, the quintessential stay-at-home-mom, a domestic goddess who gardens, grills and guides her two children through life with a sure hand.

oh hi old news
More TV casting news. Not a lot of movement in film in the current industry climate in comparison. Can any of you “insiders” tell my why this is happening?
yes, it’s called pilot season.
Still though, much more volume than in seasons past.
Porter is a steal for the fluffy sounding Dixie. Some intriguing actors on that show in Bilson, King, and Bethel. I might have a to watch a show on the CW for once.
Bilson is a goddess. She is the next Mila Kunis.
Please. Rachel had the chance to be the first Rachel Bilson and failed. She isn’t the next Mila Kunis. She isn’t going back to tv because she wants to. She was pretty vocal about moving on and doing film only. She said she wanted roles like Natalie and Keira and talked as if tv was beneath her. Now she has been back on board with tv because she has nothing else. She’s going back to tv because she can barely get a job in movies and thought someone was going to hand her a job. Which Josh S has now done for a second time. While Rachel was tipping off the paparazzi, Mila was working her way up and is the star Rachel probably “could have” been if she had worked harder and not spent most of her time staging pics of her shopping/eating/walking and planting stories/pics about her lovelife the general public didn’t really care about. Don’t get me wrong, pilot season is shaping up to be a great one. So going to television isn’t a bad gig at all. But in Bilson’s case, it’s not some respected actor getting on board with a great television project. It’s a woman who can’t get a job so her best friend created one for her.
Scott Porter is such a great great great actor, why oh why is he doing this POS? It’s a terrible script by any standards. Bilson, Porter, King, such a waste of talent and beauty. And CW knows it. Not even a full pilot. This is just such sad news.
Have you read the script? Do you work for the CW? The show seems like a great idea, and the cast is really shaping up to be an excellent one. I hope it gets picked up so we can see them in action.
Hart of Dixie writer is pretty hacky. Her scripts on Eli Stone were very heavy handed.
Hooray for Garret Morris! Haven’t seen him in quite some time.
way to go Matt! for the record, he does a great Kim Jong Il.
Crewson was great as a harsh diplomat in Formosa Betrayed — sounds like a perfect role for her!
Scott Porter was great in Friday Night Lights and of the stuff that the CW has going this year, Hart of Dixie sounds like it’s by far the best. Besides, how could a script that wasn’t well written get such an awesome cast?… lack of logic there. I’ve heard it’s really good.
Scott Porter and Rachel Bilson can’t act, it’s on The CW, and it sounds like a rip-off of Everwood… pass.
Bilson can act in lighter fair…which this is. And Porter can act. Period. Jason Street and Blake on TGW both were more than solid. I can’t speak to his lighter side…or this script and it’s overall quality…but it’s a strong cast IMO.
Rachel Bilson… as a doctor? LOLOLOL
Rachel Bilson as a doctor will be terrible. She should be selling shoes at Barneys.
Scott Porter wasted on this – I like his guest character on the Good Wife. I hope he gets to play combative or conflicted and not the equivalent of whoever that male star is who was opposite Reese Witherspoon in Sweet Home Alabama
Bilson and.. Porter? I can’t see it.
Bilson couldnt even pass to look like a kindergarten teacher much more a doctor?!
This looks like would start & ends in its pilot.
Doctor?! She looks 12.
