Rob Huebel has become the first actor cast in Fox’s single-camera comedy pilot Family Album, written by Joe Port and Joe Wiseman and directed by Shawn Levy. Huebel most recently guest starred in the FX sci-fi comedy pilot U.S.S. Alabama. FX just passed on the project co-created and starring Reno 911! masterminds Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon. The high-concept comedy was set a thousand years in the future aboard an United Nations peacekeeping spaceship. Meanwhile, Family Album centers on a headstrong patriarch who, determined to get some quality family time, embarks on a vacation with his extended family. Huebel, repped by CAA and Principato-Young, will play the brother. He co-stars on Adult Swim’s Childrens Hospital.
Former Battlestar Galactica star Jamie Bamber will reunite with the sci-fi series’ developer-executive producer Ron Moore, TVLine reports. Brit Bamber has joined the cast of Moore’s NBC pilot 17th Precinct, set in the fictional town of Excelsior where magic and supernatural elements rule over science. Bamber, who most recently starred in Law & Order: UK, will play a homicide detective at the precinct, joining recently cast Stockard Channing.

Another show for Jamie Bamber?Law and Order:UK was recently renewed for another series, Outcasts is currently airing on the BBC and now he’s in 17th Precinct. If this gets picked up and Outcasts is renewed for a second series, he’s going to be a very busy man.
Renner,
Bamber is only in the first episode of “Outcasts.”
Hey, thanks so much for spoiling Outcasts for me.
What were you thinking?
First of all, he’s already dead on Outcasts so that’s not an issue. I think it’s awesome news…unless the ending gets all kinds of f**kedup like BSG did. THen people will be unhappy…AGAIN!
It’s about time they put some pretty people up on NBC…it’s been a slow crappy year.
Hope that comment didn’t BORE YOU
Damn, way to spoil it for people who haven’t watched Outcasts yet.
TV is using Rob Huebel. That proves there’s a god in heaven. Now where is Dave Blumenfeld, and why hasn’t anyone noticed that Brian McCann is the reincarnation of Jimmy Stewart?
@Renner Jamie’s contract is up with ‘Law & Order:UK’. He was signed to three series (seasons) and the final series of his contract should be wrapping production in the near future. As for ‘Outcasts’, Jamie only took on a limited role and would likely not have returned if the series were to be picked up for a second series.
REALLY bummed to hear USS alabama got passed on over at FX.
You wouldn’t be if you’d seen it, Jared. Painfully unfunny.
Really? I thought it was pretty decent. Obviously would need some work to go from pilot to series, but thought it had a lot of promise and was pretty funny.
okay, i’m not trying to hate on this pilot, it’s well written with some smart jokes — there’s an actuary statistics joke (these guys are smart). but why do the networks keep trying to develop these “relatable” family comedies populated by completely inauthentic unrelatable cartoon characters who also speak as such? family comedies used to be funny because the jokes were organic to characters that were based in reality. something like this works if they’re actually doing a cartoon like the simpsons or family guy, but with real people it comes off like arrested development. an award winning show which everyone in new york and LA loved and nobody anywhere else watched. why bother?
Bamber – better with an American accent.
@scratching my head
I’m guessing you’re one of those guys doing coverage on scripts that don’t meat your Everyone Loves Raymond standards. AD’s popularity mushroomed after it was taken off the air — an indication of failure on the part of marketing and programming, not because an audience didn’t get the show. 30 Rock and arguably My Name Is Earl borrowed from AD’s structure and comedy style — two both largely successful shows. You need to get out of coverage before you trash a potentially great show simply because it doesn’t meet your personal criteria of jokes that strictly adhere to organic story lines.
ELR was a great show. i don’t love Modern Family, but it’s relatable. I’m all for stupid as long as it’s funny (hopefully laugh out loud), like in 30 Rock or the Office or It’s Always Sunny. Earl was a great pilot and then the series became a contrived mockery of itself because of the premise, which is why it got tired fast regardless of how long it was on. i love funny. but live action family comedies are usually only funny if they’re relatable. sorry, Tolan. Family Album is based on a great “high concept” (ding! ding! ding! network buzz word) device which i’m sure made it easier to sell and it’s even smartly written. it’s just simply not laugh out loud funny, which is unfortunate when you’re doing a comedy. want to know why it’s not funny? because the jokes aren’t organic to the situation. wanna know why? because the characters are cartoon characters, not real people. of course, this is only based on the script. maybe they’ll cast it spot-on and i’ll be proven wrong. and in what dimension did Arrested Development’s following “mushroom”? when a dead show’s following mushrooms they bring it back. see Family Guy. good luck with Council of Dads, it’s pretty much in the same category as Family Album. and i’m not hating, i’m just a guy who wants the networks to get back in the business of producing funny comedies. in order to do it successfully they have to reach a broader audience and relatability helps on that front.
AD was asked to be brought back, by Showtime. Hurwitz said no. “Relatability” is a nice word, isn’t it? “Relevant” — also a nice word. Neither insures a show is successful. Also, I’ve a feeling what you consider relatable someone else considers a pile of steaming shit. Frankly if it wasn’t for people taking a chance on out-of-the-box concept comedy shows and ignoring their “relatability” check list, we’d never have Seinfeld. Seriously. Please stop doing coverage immediately, less you screen a precious gem of a concept from getting on my plasma. I’d hate to think you work at CAA looking for the next ELR instead of something like 30 Rock or a new Arrested Development.
u just don’t seem to understand i’m talking about family comedies. 30 rock is great. it’s designed that way. it’s outlandish and has totally unrelatable characters doing stupid things that are funny. a family comedy these days has to have relatable characters with jokes organic to those characters and situation to build a broad audience. and there were so few people in the country that loved AR the way you do that you probably won’t ever see another show like that go that long on a BROADCAST network. AR is perfect for a place like Showtime where 900,000 people a week watch episodes. you’re very cool, you liked Arrested Development. i get that. you must be smart, too! i like family comedies with broader appeal, with characters reminiscent of people i know or of myself who also make me laugh… i think most of the nation’s broadcast television audience members would tend to agree. but the broadcast execs are trying to be like niche marketing cable and they’re pandering to you: the devout, the ardent… the few. it’s not good business.
Huebel is amazingly funny! Still can’t quite understand why Fox passed on THE STATION last pilot season – show was hilarious and Huebel was legendary. FAMILY ALBUM officially has a real fighting chance this season!
Jamie Bamber is such a HOTTIE ( also the other Brit Henry Cavill ). I will see him in anything. Why isn’t Jamie a bigger star ? ! Bamber has the looks, charisma, and talent.
HUEBEL is one of my favorite comedic actors and they are lucky to get him. He is a star!!!!!
