EXCLUSIVE: After landing a recurring role on Showtime’s Shameless as her first TV acting job, Jane Levy has booked the lead of a broadcast pilot as her second gig. Testing against several other young actresses, Levy was tapped to star in ABC’s single-camera comedy pilot Suburgatory. The project, from Warner Bros. TV and writer-exec producer Emily Kapnek, centers on Tessa (Levy), a teenage girl who is moved from Manhattan, where she grew up, to her version of hell: the suburbs. Levy is with Gersh and manager James Suskin.

She is beautiful!
“Suburbatory” is a more sensible title.
(But I like “Suburrrbanktory” even better.)
Holy hell yes! She is brilliant on Shameless. And hotter than heck.
how old is she?
Suburgatory?
C’mon ABC, do your fieldwork.
You’re about to trash the shows ratings before it airs.
Puns don’t work on free TV (only cable, like “californication”).
This shows target demos-teen girls, teen boys who like blonde teen girls, and older pervert guys who like blonde teen girls-HATE complications of any kind, especially punning TV show titles.
Plus, “suburgatory” puns off “purgatory”, a fantasy of some religious brand. Stay away from ALL religious allusions.
By the way, teenage blonde girl goes from Manhattan to…just where are these “suburbs”? Because not all suburbs are purgatory-like.
Truth is, Manhattan stinks! Not a good place for any kid to grow up.
Brentwood, Malibu, and the Hills “suburbs” are quite nice. While suburbs in Long Island, Midwest, and the entire South would indeed be Hell, much less purgatory.
ABC, it’s a COMEDY.
Would a teenage blonde girl ever in a million years say “suburgatory”to her friends?
No, though she might say “Suburbs Stink”, or text, “Suburbs WTF”, or “Suburbs :-(”
Change the damn name!
“My So-Called Life”(which this ABC show rips off) wasn’t named “My Karma”.
So I take it from your post – that you have not read the script. And you obviously havent seen Jane Levy beyond her headshot. On Shameless, she has brown hair and a piercing. Read and watch and get educated before posting opinions.
Almost a year later, this show is very successful with the name surburgatory!
Why do networks always think that the “suburbs as hell” is a good idea? Every year, they do this , and it never goes.
Just because living in NYC is a tv exec’s wet dream, doesn’t mean it’s America’s.
America Ferrara is that you?
Gersh has been killing it lately with the pilot casting.
Great job, Emily! Wonderful casting choice! GO GIRL POWER!!!
I didn’t think you were capable of compliments. I’m SHOCKED!
They need to change the name
Nice to see a fresh face. Beautiful!
Such feeble witless fluff for ABC — which usually seems to back quality writing. At most, this subpar retread belongs on Sat a.m. tv
She is GORGEOUS. Her face is just spectacular. Perfect for television and the movies. She is a super star in the making if she so desires to become one. How old is she? I have seen 18, 21 and 22. There is no information on the internet regarding a biography or her date of birth. This leads me to believe that she could be a juvenile? Is that even possible? I would have guessed that she is at least 21. I know she plays a teenager but she looks like she is 21.
I like how the mentally challenged amongst us can’t handle the name. Let’s all just focus on the pun, and then sound steadily less educated from there. And, yes, the suburbs are hell, people. The country is nice, serene, beautiful. The city is awesome, bustling, wonderful. The suburbs, with the intention of being the best of both worlds, failed miserably and are, instead, the worst of each. Sometimes, by the way, teenagers and young adults are intelligent, quirky, witty, and clever. All of that said, all I wondered, was if the star is related to Reese Witherspoon. She bore a fairly striking resemblance in the preview.
Thanks.
I really like the show, very funny and Jane Levy is GORGEOUS!!! LOVE the red hair!!! I hope the show continues. And from what her profile says, she was born in 1990.
We may need to rethink our stereotypes about the suburbs. In our current economy, they’re becoming breeding grounds of poverty.
