EXCLUSIVE: Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in talks to reunite with his Inception director Christopher Nolan in The Dark Knight Rises for Warner Bros. I’m not sure what role he’ll play, but I’m told that he will be in the movie when Nolan starts production this spring. Gordon-Levitt will be done shooting the Rian Johnson-directed Looper with Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt by then. Gordon-Levitt has the indie Hesher coming out this spring, as well as Live With It, the Jonathan Levine-directed pic about a 27-year old who tries to overcome a cancer diagnosis. CAA-repped Gordon-Levitt established himself with indie films like Brick, the underrated Scott Frank-directed The Lookout, and the Marc Webb-directed (500) Days of Summer. Nolan keeps his films shrouded in secrecy, though he did lift the veil recently to disclose that Anne Hathaway would play Selina Kyle (Catwoman) and Gordon-Levitt’s Inception co-star Tom Hardy will play Bane. What role fits Gordon-Levitt?

The Joker’s really not a bad guess and JGL could pull it off. Yes, Nolan has said the Joker would not appear, but things can change.
That said, I don’t think it’s true. I always thought a good way to put the Joker to bed, instead of just ignoring his existence, would be to open Batman 3 with news that he had committed suicide in Arkham.
There’s rumors he’ll be Hugo Strange, but I think that’s only because of the upcoming game.

Even with rumors during the release of INCEPTION, I figured Nolan would find something for JGL even if it isn’t the Riddler. How big can this thing get? Wouldn’t be surprised if it pushed $1.5 billion worldwide.

Dare I say just how much Levitt resembles Heath Ledger? OK, we already know Nolan won’t go that route. It will probably be a pretty minor role, think Michael Anthony Hall in “The Dark Knight.”

Does Nolan realize that there are other actors in this world than the ones that are in inception? Is Leo gonna get a role in this,too. I understand wanting to hook up your friends and put them in all your movies, but this is crazy. Deniro and Scorcese is one thing, because DeNiro is an excellent actor. Levitt is a wimpy justin bieber-type. Maybe this is why Nolan doesn’t get any respect fro the academy.

Brick is one of my favorite movies of all time, precisely because JGL gives a phenomenally subtle and complicated performance. Seriously, if anyone doubts this boy’s talent, that’s the movie that will make you reconsider.
As for the idea of him being in the movie, it’s no surprise. He’s reportedly a gem to work with, he’s got a beautiful look, and he proved in Inception that he can do wonderful stunt/greenscreen/wire work. Perfect choice for Nolan.
Hey Jon, while your comments may be true for Adam Sandler movies, Nolan uses solid actors and JGL is no exception. This is good news and fans of good acting will be pleased.
Nolan does tend to work like working with a group of actors which includes Christian Bale, Cillian Murphy, Michael Caine, Ken Watanbe, Tom Hardy, etc. However, for the Inception cast members, a lot were part of Batman, which is a series and requires continuity. This would be what, JGL’s second movie with Nolan? If anything, Nolan likes working with Russ Fega and Larry Holden.
And he’s supposed to be a bad ass in Hesher.
Are you ridiculous? Nolan doesn’t hire friends; he hired good actors, which is why JGL and THardy have been hired. They both showed they could act not only in Inception, but in their previous work too. You don’t turn talented actors down just because they’ve been in a film by the same director before, that’s not how it works. And I don’t get where you get the “Justin Bieber-type” comparison from. At least JGL has got some talent in his field.

Love seeing this, but hope so bad Nolan doesn’t bring in too many characters. Don’t need a Spider Man 3 or X Men 3 scenario.
Batman, Rachel Dawes, Jim Gordon, Lucius Fox, Alfred Pennyworth, Sal Malroni, Gamble, the Joker, Two-Face, Comissioner Loeb, Mayor Hill, plus more played central to supporting roles in “the Dark Knight”.
I *think* that Nolan can handle multiple characters and storylines throughout a film without it becoming a jumbled mess like Spider-Man 3, especially when the number of known characters in the new film so far is much lower than the number of players in the last film.

Best case scenario IMO: He’s Joker or Riddler. Those are the only 2 villains worthy of ending Nolan’s trilogy if you were to ask me. But seeing as Nolan said he’s not using either of them, and he’s using Catwoman & Bane, I think he might just end up playing some minor role or whatever. He was 1 of 12 men in the running for Riddler, even though Nolan said he had no plans to make a riddler in this film, they always have sudden hinting in either the background story. He may even only be mentioned as Edward, with no other role.
I could be wrong, he could be Dick Grayson away at college, because even though they said NO ROBIN, they never said no Dick Grayson. All in all, he’s just not allowed to suit up and help.

Victor Zsasz was already briefly in Batman Begins, being referred to by name on one occasion. He was played by another actor, so Gordon-Levit is definetly not playing him.
I’d put my money on him playing a more minor role, such as a cop or politian. I doubt that he’ll be a third villian because that would break Nolan’s two-villian-routine.
Don’t you all see that Nolan is throwing us off the scent. He is going to break some new ground here. JGL is going to be Catwoman and Hathaway will play Bane. Tom Hardy, of course, will be cleaning my pool, as it were.
