EXCLUSIVE: After an exhaustive search, actor-singer Jesse McCartney just landed the final role on Fox’s drama pilot Locke & Key. He will play Ty, the eldest of the Locke children. It is a key role in the project (pun intended) as it is considered the male lead on the show.
Locke & Key, from 20th TV, Kurtzman/Orci and DreamWorks TV, is based on Joe Hill’s comic. It tells the story of Nina Locke (Miranda Otto) and her three children, Tyler (McCartney), Kinsey (Sarah Bolger), and Bode (Skylar Gaertner) who, after the brutal murder of Nina’s husband Rendell Locke, return to Keyhouse, his old family home in Massachusetts. There, they are pestered by an evil entity that’s determined to hold the family hostage one way or another until it gets what it wants. As Ty, McCartney will be able to show off his music talents. According to the character description, Ty was the closest with his dad and carries a special guilt for his father’s death. He isolates himself a bit by retreating into his music. On TV, McCartney most recently recurred on Greek.
So happy for Jesse and glad everyone will get to see how talented he really is. Great guy, too…

Finally! I’ve been waiting for him to do some more live action stuff and not just voice work. He really is a great actor. I hope the series gets picked up and gets the opportunity to show off his skills.

Good for McCartney. Talked to him a couple times on set a few years ago. I was expecting the typical bratty, self-entitled “kid actor” crap but he surprised me with the opposite. Nice kid.

Retreats into his music? Ok. I’m going to have to re-read the series from the beginning. This isn’t ringing any bells for me. Also, I always felt the littlest kid, Bode, was the most important character. Bode is, after all, the one that finds the keys in the house.
After seeing him on Punked, I’ll never be able to watch anything this kid is in.
Major bummer. I was really looking forward to this – we don’t need a teen pop star as the lead. Ugh.
He acted before he was a teen pop star so give him a chance! He was nominated for a Daytime Emmy when he was on All My Children and did great work on Summerland and the movie Keith.

i dont hate J.McCartney i hope he can pull it off. its a
great opportunity. whats not great is that the character Ty
is angry and brooding and overtly aggressive; so rather than
try to cast for an actor who can fit such a role, they do
away with the concept and cast for ‘buzz’. enter Jesse. he
is the exact fit what the new character calls. a singer.
instead of doing something like what AMC has done with Walking Dead,
someone in some backroom deal, has pulled a Faustian maneuver and
irrevocably damned themselves.

Lovecraft didn’t write this. The story is set in a fictional town called “Lovecraft.” Definitely dedicated.
Locke & Key is a suspense thriller and is brilliantly written by Joe Hill (Heart Shape Box) and illustrated by Gabriel Rodriguez. The duo makes an amazing and groundbreaking team among the modern graphic novel world. Hill is an extremely talented and clever writer.
I would love to see this show made, however I see Jesse McCartney would playing the role Bode, who’s actually the priority main character.
Hard work and a God given ability has finally paid off. What a blessing to see what Jesse will do with this opportunity to shine and draw people in. Music and acting takes a lot of hard work to make it look easy. Jesse has accomplished both of these and with his forth album about to be on market, now he can concentrate again on acting. WOW,
