So instead of fighting Magneto, they’re fighting the Cuban Missile Crisis? (face palm)
If I just read that description, I’d agree, but that trailer rocks.
Did I see Kevin Bacon in that clip?
Kevin Bacon plays Sebastian Shaw.
BLOODY HELL THIS LOOKS FREAKING AWESOME!!!! CANT WAIT!!!
That’s looks as bad as the other four movies…
You seriously have to be from bum-fuck nowhere (and retarded) to enjoy these movies.
X2 is one of the best comic book movies ever made.
This looks pretty good. Better than Thor and Green Lantern, certainly.
Totally agree about X2; far and away the best of the franchise so far.
X2 is overrated and it was NOT one of the “Best Comic Book Movies Ever Made”. The visual style of the film was dull. The characters were nothing like the comic. Wolverine was relegated to a long fight with a woman again. And Magneto was catty and not at all menacing, giggling on a plane with Mystique and laughing at Rogue’s hair streak as if he were Anna Wintour.
X2 is said to be good, but only because it didn’t outright suck and was “better” than X1.
Oh and the X-Men were essentially the Power Rangers. They couldn’t battle anything without “calling on Tommy” aka Wolverine… All of them combined could have stopped the dam from collapsing…
If you like bad comic book movies then yes, X2 was amazingly bad!
All the X-Men films have a look like they were produced by SyFy. Is all that money going into the budget being used to pay Halle Berry and Stamos’ ex-wife? Ugh.
That was bad. Real bad. Not only does it look like Xmen:”Can’t figure out what to do anymore.”
btw Charles is now college aged with a boyish face?
Did you even watch the trailer? It is very clearly a prequel.
I’m not one to defend Fox movies a bunch but… the trailer makes it pretty clear this is set in the 60s. So, yeah. Professor X is much younger.
I think the period setting might actually make it at least interesting. And it couldn’t be worse than Wolverine or X3. Right? Right?
This looks awesome.
In the words of Liz Lemon…I want to go to there.
“X-Men” back story…
Whew! Finally! Now I can sleep soundly tonight.
Cause X-Men who dispatch evil doers with aplomb were once normal peeps like you and me. ‘Til one day…
Marvel legitimized comic-sponsored violence. Over half a century, 100 million boys “read”(more like, looked at the pics) Marvel comics for violence and babes. Now they’ve “grown up” frustrated and adrift in a world remarkably unlike their cartoon fantasies.
Wondering where the X-Men are, they live out their own cartoonish lives lost amidst a sea of violence with no real-life X-Men to save the day.
Dan, I think you’re lost amidst a sea of bitterness.
And I think it’s you, Dan, who lives in a world unlike your own fantasies.
i actually think you hit the nail on the head, Dan.
Wow! Dan… I don’t even know where to start. First off… well, comic-sponsored violence would have been legitimized with Batman, who was created with his parents death (which is DC comics, since you seem a little naive… and apparently not a comic “reader,” more of a picture looker like you described?
Not to geek out, but you remind me of Dan from Street Fighter… a wimpy shadow of the others… in a little pink outfit. How quaint.
Anyway, after X3, I’m looking forward to a revitalization to the actual story!
Looks amazing. The posters above need to stick to watching Justin Bieber and Twilight. Or Green Lantern.
I am a fan of comic books.
I am surprised that I liked it as much as I did. So, this geek approves so far. I am still waiting to see what they do with Emma Frost.
The X-Men comic started in 1963. Their first adventure took place on a missile base.
This takes place just before that….
One of the hallmarks of the XMen movies is the mix of the “real world” with this fantastic ‘mutant problem.’ Remember the first movie started off in Auschwitz. So the whole idea of linking mutants with the Cuban missile crisis works.
Yes, Charles Xavier isn’t bald yet… he also isn’t crippled, and he’s still friends with Magneto.
This is the prequel – hence the name.
This one kinda snuck in under the radar yeah? The Thor promo has been out for months now.
Hate the way they collapsed the time frame for the latter day X-Men like White Queen and Mystique to be in this (I am old school where White Queen and Mystique were BAD GUYS and Cyclops NOT Wolverine was leader of the X-Men)
If it’s in the 60s it should have been the original Lee/Kirby X-Men: Cyclops, Beast, Angel, Iceman and Marvel Girl
Of course they couldn’t since they used them in the 1st trilogy.
Alex Summers is supposed to be in this, though, hope they keep the concentric circle portrayal of his powers.
Superheroes go “MadMen” though, interesting twist.
I am honestly over prequels, though. After “Enterprise” killed the Star Trek TV franchise, I was done. I think they should have gone forward with New Mutants as the logical sequel to the X-Men trilogy.
Anyway we shall see.
i dig it! looking forward to the movie living up to the trailer. :- )
I’ll be there. Loved X-Men since I was a kid.
Really, really underwhelmed by that trailer. It looks EXACTLY like the previous three films, only the faces have changed. Not the radical reimagining that was hoped for. And after all the fanfare about it being set in the 60s, I didn’t get any sense of the period at all from that snippet. Color me disappointed. Let’s hope the next batch of trailers are worth waiting for.
Agree – not a great trailer. It’s not bad, but it’s just not exciting…..
I am shocked at how good this movie looks. I had already dismissed it as not worth seeing but it looks spectacular and I love the 1962 setting. I’m glad I was wrong about this one and I hope it does well enough for a sequel but will they deal with Vietnam or skip right over that decade long war?
Good trailer. It’ll be interesting to see if audiences accept this crop of comic book films. X-Men, Thor, Cap, and Green Lantern are all trying something different, and hopefully they take. The genre needs the diversity.
I loved the X-Men movies and the comic books, but I’m very skeptical about “First Class.”
I admit that the style and the visuals look enticing but there just aren’t any characters that I particularly care about. It seems centered around Xavier and Magneto and for the comic fans, they were never the central draw. This movie will need to stand on its own. It’s a far cry from selling a movie with Wolverine as the central character to selling one with… girl with dragon-fly wings.
Looks like crap. Just like the other X-Men movies. I mean, does anybody really care about these two characters and their origin?
Also, they have no right using the Marvel name at the beginning when this is not a Marvel Production. I know it’s Marvel’s characters, but this Fox production is like Shasta Cola to Marvel’s Coca-Cola.
It’s not Marvel, it’s Fox. HUGE DIFFERENCE!
That logo appears on all of the Marvel movie adaptions, regardless of studio.
I liked the tone of this trailer a lot. Nobody cares about the comic book continuity if the movie is exciting and interesting throughout — Dark Knight “bent” comic book continuity as much as this appears to.
I really hope Fassbender swings for the fences with his portrayal of Magneto–his look is perfect.
Wow, I did not expect to like this. But after being impressed by the trailer, I went to see who made it. Matthew Vaughn, the director of Layer Cake, Stardust and Kick-Ass? Now, I understand why this will be a good movie. Set during Mad Men America (or by the looks of it, I should say Connery Bondmania?). I can’t believe I actually want to see this, especially compared to the underwhelming/boring trailers for Thor, Captain America and that green one with Ryan Renyolds. Too bad the last two X-Men movies were atrocious, because now this movie has no chance for success.
meh…kinda looks like out takes from past x men films (same sets, locations, etc). What the hell is the plot anyway? And can someone now explain why fox didn’t just keep the original series going? THey rushed the phoenix story and were insistent on making it a trilogy – yet here we are with continuous sequels, prequels and spin offs.
If you haven’t read the comics…? Yeah. It’s a prequel. End of that discussion.
Otherwise…this looks cool. A trailer done the right way. Don’t give it to us all at once. What a cast. I pray the movie rocks.
Woah… I just dropped a can of Pringles down my pants if you get what I’m saying.
Not really, no. The can or just the Pringles chips themselves?
I love that their costumes are very similar to the one in the beginning of the comic. Yellow and Black is back baby! Magneto’s helmet looks more like it did in the comics. It looks like it will be a very fun movie.
I’m not completely sold but it does look more promising than Thor or Green Lantern.
I couldn’t work out if this was supposed to be another prequel or a reboot, and now that I’ve seen the trailer I *still* can’t work out if it’s supposed to be a prequel or a reboot.
Why can’t it be both? The series needs rebooting to get rid of last two movies stench and it’s a prequel, as in it takes place before all the other movies.
So very glad Matt Vaughn is directing this movie.
I think it is going to be a little of both. That seems to be a trend these days like Superman Returns and I read the GI Joe sequel will be re-imagined while still a sequel.
