EXCLUSIVE: An intriguing tale of rival Snow White is unfolding between Universal Pictures and Relativity Media. I’m told that Charlize Theron is hot and heavy in negotiations to play the Evil Queen in Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman (with Michael Fassbender the front-runner to play the woodsman). For its rival project The Brothers Grimm: Snow White, Relativity Media is courting Julia Roberts to play the Evil Queen. That film will be directed by Tarsem from a script by Melisa Wallack.
Universal is negotiating with Theron at the same time that she is reading the script for a key role in J. Edgar, the Clint Eastwood-directed film that will star Leonardo DiCaprio as FBI boss J. Edgar Hoover. The studio is moving quickly after paying $1.5 million against $3 million for the Evan Daughtery spec script that will be directed by Rupert Sanders.
The projects are very different, and both films are on the fastest possible track. It will be interesting to see if both fairy tales have happy endings.

I haven’t read the Relativity script, but when you put Tarsem into the equation, it totally changes everything — they may be about the same subject generally speaking, but the films will be worlds apart.
Michael Fassbender? What happened to Tom Hardy?
You know, I didn’t used to be a big fan of Roberts, but I’m liking her more and more. She seems to be challenging herself as of late. She’s not a media-whore or in the tabloids all of the time trying to get attention. She seems like a good mom, that tries to keep her kids out of the spotlight.
I liked her performances in Closer, Duplicity and Eat Pray Love. This, and August: Osage County, sound like really interesting projects for her and I’ve already heard great things about Larry Crowne.
Hey Missy she is married to a man with kids – put your tongue back in your mouth
I nominate Angelica Houston for mean queen – better than Roberts and Theron combined.
Playing the “Evil Queen” isn’t a stretch for either actress.
Theron’s acted evil in other roles. And in real life, not far below the surface, she’s one angry queen. (See her “Funny or Die” skit with Zach G.)
Roberts acts all the time like the evil Queen off-screen, especially towards those several pay grades below director and producer.
What I don’t understand is why Roberts still gets work, even as an “Evil Queen”? At least Theron can still act. Sure these are fantasy movies primarily for kids, but are Theron & Roberts the best studios can do for “Evil Queen”?
I mean, you might as well consider other older, real-life meanies like Aniston, Cox, Foster.
If both ladies get the “Evil Queen” gig, put your money on Theron’s movie. Just one thing…Leave Theron’s hair blond for the Evil Queen. That’ll confuse kids of all ages.
She gets work because she’s talented and she’s the most successful actress of all time. What have you done lately? Oh, thats right, be a hater on a blog lol!
anyone remembers Sigourney Weaver’s Snow White film?
Way to recycle our female stars over 30–have them play the heavies to the next Hollywood princess to knock over!
What happened to the evil queen proijexct at disney starring angelina jolie? I thought that was going to be going soon?
Wow. Gotta love Hollywood’s originality. The two Snow Whites will go well with my Red Riding Hood and Alice in Wonderland dvds. Yay.
JR as an evil queen? Right on! Sure would be cool to see JR take a bite out of a poisoned apple, with JR having being allready on the antidote, and then give the apple to someone, who not only do they die, their lips fall off in black flakes. OUCH!
Charlize Theron would make a great Evil queen. Julia Roberts in the role would make it much more campy. However, imagine trying to find a girl “more fair” than Theron…
