EXCLUSIVE: The Matrix star Carrie-Anne Moss has been tapped as the lead in Lifetime’s untitled Michael Sardo pilot. The project, from writer-executive producer Michael Sardo and Universal Cable Prods., centers on Ann Brown (Moss), New York’s premiere celebrity psychologist. With her life and marriage in shambles, she leaves town to join her sister, the Dean at a teaching hospital, to become the chief of staff of the hospital’s psych ward. There, she rediscovers her love for helping people while reconnecting with her sister, despite their volatile history. Gerard Bocaccio is executive producing the pilot with Sardo, while Timothy Busfield is set to direct.
Moss, repped by WME and manager Elizabeth Hodgson, is the latest feature actress to headline a cable pilot. Moss started off on TV, with roles on such series as Dark Justice, Models Inc. and F/X: The Series, before her big breakthrough in the 1999 feature The Matrix, followed by memorable roles in Memento and Chocolat. In 2008, Moss starred opposite Joseph Fiennes in Ryan Murphy’s FX pilot Pretty/Handsome. The untitled Michael Sardo is one of five pilots ordered by Lifetime this year, along with Against the Wall, Exit 19, Meet Jane and an untitled project from Josh Berman. The other four are in various stages of production.

Carrie-Anne’s fantastic. I’ll certainly check this out! Not too thrilled about the plot but what can you do?
Does anybody know if Debra Messing’s show Right vs. Wrong was ever pick up? Thanks in advance!
No, ultimately it wasn’t picked up.
Thanks! That’s too bad. I hope she finds something good soon.
The plot sounds like a regurgitation of Doc Hollywood, but I’d watch Carrie Anne Moss read the phone directory for an hour. A great (underrated) actress.
Agree. Hilarious in “Mini’s First Time”. Does comedy as well as drama.
Aw, this is sad to see. She deserves better than lifetime.
Debra Messing’s show “Right or Wrong” was not picked up.
Carrie Anne is still a favorite. Here photo is beautiful.
She’s beautiful inside too. A really lovely person.
honestly, I wish Carrie-Ann Moss did more. I’m a huge fan of the Matrix and she’s one of the few credible action heroines. She wasn’t stick thin, for one.
Anyway, as long as she’s happy. Maybe action roles weren’t her thing.
I think the roles just weren’t available. By the time the Matrix ended she was in her late thirties and it seems like there was nothing else out there. Annoying.
AaaIiiii I love Carrie Anne she is the best actress I´ve ever met , I am there when this pilot come up :D
Don’t let the network color your perceptions about this series. Michael Sardo, creator of the upcoming FAIRLY LEGAL on USA, is a spectacular writer. He has a unique voice unlike anyone currently working in television. Clearly, Carrie-Ann was drawn to the project because of the script. I won’t be surprised if this is the series that elevates Lifetime into the TNT/FX/AMC category.
I agree. Read this script and it’s very good. And wasn’t Gerard Bocaccio at FX in the good years? Interesting project with Carrie-Anne in the lead. Then again, it’s Lifetime so all bets are off!
Carrie-Ann is great, but she made the mistake of gaining weight in an industry that doesn’t allow that. Lifetime looks like the perfect match for her and I hope she is very successful.
Carrie-Anne Moss is my most favorite actress EVER. I always wait all of her works!
