Malin Akerman (Couples Retreat, Watchmen, 27 Dresses) is now confirmed to replace Lindsay Lohan in Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story from director/writer Matthew Wilder’s script, which made the 2008 Black List. “My understanding is that Lindsay was dropped as she’s impossible to insure and the producers loved Malin,” an insider emails. Malin’s upcoming credits include Wanderlust (Paul Rudd, Jen Aniston), Happythankyoumoreplease (Josh Radnor) and The Bang Bang Club (Taylor Kitsch, Ryan Philippe). She is also attached to star opposite Ethan Hawke in The Numbers Station. The Lovelace project (we really need another after Brian Grazer did one?) is based on the novel Ordeal: An Autobiography by Linda Lovelace with Mike McGrady. The producers include Chris Hanley of Muse Productions and Jordan Gertner.

bondable
Malin — run from this trainwreck asap.
How in the hell does Malin Akerman keep getting work?
I ask the same question. I do not, not, not, not, not enjoy this actress. Fakey, smiley, giggly, breathy, nothingness.
She keeps getting work probably for the same reason you don’t get fired at your job: She does a good job. Kind of ridiculous to say a perfectly fine actress shouldn’t get work. Also, she hasn’t really been tested yet. It’s a little premature to say she should be booted from Hollywood. Chill out.
Agreed, Cribbster. How does anyone yet know what kind of actress she is? Regarding what she’s done so far, she gave great performances in giggly breathy roles. Did exactly what she was hired to do.
Yes, she’s all those things…but at least she’s better than LiLo.
Sadly, Lindsay Lohan is a much better actor than Ackerman. Lohan was the best thing in Bobby, for example. What makes it more tragic is how talented she actually is.
She’s willing to show her breasts, can recite lines, and reminds some nostalgic people of Cameron Diaz. That’s about it. No talent in this girl.
She’s a much better match for looks than lohan; but how does malin keep getting herself stuck with such pathetic roles when she’s one of the most gorgeous women acting; please change agents, manager so we can see her in hit movies.
She keeps getting pathetic roles because she is a terrible actress..pretty yes, but stiff and whiny when acting. She was the worst part of Watchmen..and there was a lot of wrong going on with that movie.
Any actress that signs on for this movie is stupid. Just read the script which leaked online back in June. This movie will be rated NC-17, no studio will distribute this, straight to DVD and its like a softcore porn flick. What is the production company? Who are the other actors?
You didn’t read the script. There’s no sex in it, so how is it soft core porn? The film will easily get an R.
A shame that Malin has resorted to direct to DVD material like this film will be. The script isn’t even mediocre. There’s no audience for this hot mess of a project. The smartest move Lohan has made leaving this.
She is a very mediocre actress
When you realize she’s actually Jon Hamm in drag, you’ll get a much better appreciation of her/his skills.
Big mistake. Lilo would have put way more butts in seats — oh, and, much better actress.
Thanks for that about Lohan………..I genuinely needed that big a laugh today.
Take care!
I agree.
Lindsay has way more presence and talent.
It’s a loss to the director because he just lost a ton of tabloid PageRank and SEO.
And Lindsay is a Nobel-prize-winning sage for dumping this director, who has zero IP in his resume, and this one-note wonder of a treatment.
Boring actress, boring role, boring announcement.
Lindsay dodged a bullet!
Very true. This sounds like DtD material and their final choice of an actress only confirms that it is indeed. Also, lets say it got theatrical release, wouldn`t it be really the Betty Page redux, you recall that movie that was supposed to ressurect Gretchen Moll? No, doesn`t ring the bell? My point exactly.
Big mistake on their part, as seeing Lilo play as large a trainwreck on screen as she is in real life is the only reason people were talking about this pic. We’ve already seen Akerman nude many, many times before, and it’s not like she is some Oscar-worthy actress either, so this is just a lose-lose for everyone involved.
I actually agree. The interesting thing about this project was seeing Lohan ditch the good girl act (on-screen act, that is – it’s ironic that such a real-life bad girl made her career playing sweeter-than-pie good girls) and play the maniac we all know she is in real life. Now it’s just another blah art house film. But for that matter exactly how much are they planning on making this movie for? This should cost next to nothing. It’s not like it’s going to be a huge grosser.
Lindsay pulled out of this movie, she didn’t sign off on the contract. This guy Matthew Wilder is mad at Lindsay. Best decision Lindsay has made by walking away from this trashy movie.
I think the movie is going to be a straight to dvd affair. I’ll admit that I’m glad Lindsay is off of it because I hope she does something different for her return to movies, but can i ask why she’s so hard to insure? There are MANY more actors who are completely messed up on drugs, etc, but keep getting insured for parts despite their issues. What gives?
This is an independent film. They can’t afford the type of funding for a trainwreck like Lindsay that say, a studio like Sony would be able to pay to insure an accident-in-waiting star like Charlie Sheen. Plus, her insurance costs continue to climb seemingly every month.
for one, she’s blonde and swedish. and i’d love to see her get naked.
Malin a bit miscast don’t you think? She has built a persona of comdy and light. Did I miss something -has the story of Linda Lovelace changed from sexual battery and exploitation? And chris haney as producer seems perfect. Lowest taste in all things possible
This woman cannot act.
Wow no interest in this it’s old old old smelly material.
I agree she’s a terrible actress, but she really needs a new agent.
Lohan wouldn’t have put more butts in seats. Just because the media is stupid enough to think the world cares about her has nothing to do with what audiences actually want. People find Lohan vile, pathetic and tired. She’s a loser. Nobody likes losers, period.
Hey Max, have you achieved a fraction of what Lindsay has in her film career? Probably not. If how I behaved five years ago at her age (and most college students) was blasted everyday on TMZ and the pages of US Weekly I’d be labeled a “train wreck” too.
People have a hard time focusing on themselves because they’re probably really boring and instead focus on what other people are doing, people who are probably experiencing life (doing great stuff but sometimes making bad choices). I’m not condoning drug use or saying its great but if Lindsay’s behavior “shocks” you, than you’re pretty square.
All Lindsay needs to do is keep her hair red, come to set on time and act, which she can. She just needs to get great material again, like a Tina Fey script. People didn’t reject Lindsay as an actress or a person, its the film choices she made, Just My Luck, I Know Who Killed Me, Georgia Rule, etc. She needs to be placed in one of these ensembles like Valentine’s Day or He’s Just Not That Into You or a cameo in something (Scream 4 first ten minutes wouldve been great) then reintroduced to audiences in better films.
At the end of the day Max, as you spit your vitriol, you’re the one that comes off pathetic and like a loser.
Agreed. Not sure how you figure a household name like Lohan wouldn’t get more people in theaters than a nobody like Akerman. First poster above is delusional.
Lindsay Lohan has not had a starring role on film in THREE YEARS. And the last one was the bomb-tastic “I Know Who Killed Me”
Get real people.
Climb down from Max’s back you arrogant jerks. Your vehement defense of a mediocre actress with empirically proven loser tendencies is suspect. If it quacks like a duck…
Actually, nothing of that kind can occur before years.
Remember what happened to Winona Ryder or Robert Downey Jr after their meltdowns. They couldn’t find any part in a major production for years due to insurance business even if they had cleaned up their act. Woody Allen wanted to hire both of them on “Melinda and Melinda” (they didn’t miss much) but he couldn’t get financing for the project because such actors required insurance.
Lohan is, by all accounts, far from being clean. All she can get is a part in an indie production (and a few of them pretended to hire her, just to get publicity, then dumped her) or a cameo in a major movie. Of course, all of this carries a toll of her, leaves her in the middle of a bad entourage and her own parents who are awful role models, mostly interested in the money and fame she can still attract for their own agenda. It makes her less and less likely to escape this kind of bad influences.
In my opinion, Lohan is moderately talented. She was mostly a teen celebrity who happened to find a few good parts and carry them. She’s good in Mean Girls and even believable as Meryl Streeps’s daughter in Robert Altman’s “Prairie Home Companion”. She’s not Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian. But she’s just a child actress who became a teen star, then a celebutante with a little too much plastic surgery, then who couldn’t manage, due to her issues and her lack of commitment, to transition to adult parts. It’s a sad sight, especially due to the fascination she attracts, as she might fix some of her issues if she stayed out of the celebrity thing for a year or two but she’s too busy regaining her fame to notice it.
Impossible to insure? I had no idea that Muse Productions even bothered with insurance.
Smart move by the director. Monroe messed around with directors and was fired. Nothing new here, though Lilo is certainly no Monroe. The movie business has to draw the line with unpunctual actors. I think she has justifiably blacklisted herself. Malin appears to fit the part. A Lovelace movie will fill the seats with any actress.
“fill the seats of any actress” Tee-hee.
Let’s also not forget, she is in GIANT MECHANICAL MAN. She may not be everyones favorite actress, but in this role, she might be good. I read the script several months ago, I dug it and still feel LL would be great in this, but… So people, make the best of it.
THE GIANT MECHANICAL MAN is a nothing, one act script. Boring, cliche and one note. The case of decent actors who think they’re producers. You want to talk direct to DVD?
MW– Brilliant move. Lohan’s casting gave the project a trashy, exploitative tone, like you were trying to match the reputation of the lead actress to the subject, & milk the notoriety, instead of the talent. Now the baggage (in so many ways) has been removed & you can focus on the performance & the story. Looking forward to the finished product.
Yeah because we wouldn’t want a movie about Deep Throat to be trashy and exploitative.
I liked Malin in Josh Radnor’s movie HappyThankYouMorePlease. She played a girl with alopecia and it was a brave choice for a beautiful actress. Saw her film Bang Bang Club just got distribution this week and that’s about apartheid in South Africa. Seems to me she’s taking on some challenging material.
Has no one seen Children’s Hospital?? The whole cast is genius, Malin included!
