Hopefully the dork revolution of the past 8 yrs will finally go away. Sorry Michael, we love you, but we’ve seen you’re one trick too many times now. funny video
funny? seriously? I think they just proved why Michael Cera gets the big bucks and they don’t.
Bing! You got it. Michael Cera wouldn’t be the first actor to spin what we see as generally the same character into role after role after role. Not everybody’s a chameleon, and there’s a place for what he does. Just as there is a place for bitter losers to bitch about a winner’s successes.
that was funny.
Why Michael Cera? They should do the same with 90% of Hollywood. Most of them play the same character over and over.
Jennifer Aniston has two facial expressions and those repetitive hand mannerisms. And she only wears two colors and her hair is always exactly the same. Please do her next!
Agreed. It’s become obnoxiously trendy to hate on Cera, but countless other comedic actors are equally one-note in their performances, and most of them don’t even do it as well. Cera at least has good comedic timing. You may not like his personality or his “type” of character, but it’s not like he’s without any talent.
A plea to the general public: stop piling on Michael Cera, will you? There are plenty of other, more deserving targets for your scorn.
Because he’s very specific in his mannerisms, so it’s more noticeable. I’m a Cera fan, and thought Scott Pilgrim was great, both as a film (Edgar Wright’s officially my favorite director right now) and a showcase for a more complicated Cera character, one who was cocky and oblivious and a bit of a dick but prone to nervous breakdowns and self-doubt.
But the thing is that even though you can make the same complaint about (and this is truly random and off the top of my head) Tina Fey and Bill Murray, you’ve met a Tina Fey-type and a Bill Murray-type in real life. Funny, smart, neurotic girl and a snarky, charming slob. They can essentially play themselves as an everywoman/everyman and get away with it. Cera’s voice, timing and mannerisms are so uniquely Cera that it’s more noticeable – and the fact that many of said mannerisms perfectly fit an awkward teenager on Arrested Development or Superbad, but are rarely seen on-screen in character in their late teens or early twenties, he gets the reputation that he’s just repeating himself.
Where do I sign up?
You know what’s more one-note than Michael Cera? Michael Cera backlash.
aint that the truth.
I enjoyed Cera’s last movie, Scott Something-or-other vs whatever.
Seriously, Cera is becoming like Harrison Ford or Al Pacino or Hugh Grant or Jack Black, the same character in every film they make.
Jeez, how many times has Hugh Grant played a bumbling Englishman or Ford played the dad trying to save/protect his family???!! Too many.
Wow, apparently Michael Cera is the first comic actor ever to bring variations on the same persona to different movies.
The wrath over Cera has to be partially motivated by the fact that unlike all these other actors people are citing for “playing the same part”, Cera is actually OBNOXIOUS and grating.
He’s not appealing, he doesn’t have charisma — I mean come on, it’s one thing for “Harrison Ford” and “Jack Nicholson” to play the same persona…the difference is that they were APPEALING to audiences the first dozen times they did it!
BIG difference there!
+1 for Ceramics
Just UN funny.
Easily the least funny video I’ve watched this year. Everyone associated with it should hang themselves.
The perspective I share:
“The rap against Cera, best known for “Juno,” is that he’s “the same” in movie after movie. I’ve heard the same argument used against Jesse Eisenberg, and a hundred other actors. Sorry, folks, I don’t see it. Cera’s range may not be expansive, and he’s certainly a narrowly defined physical type, but his verbal hesitations are exquisitely calibrated.”
-Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune
People are just jealous that a 22 year old kid is a movie star. That’s all.
People need to grow up and hate on the reality tv stars of the world.
Really not funny and poorly written. Shocked you guys are featuring this. The guy who played the instructor was horrendously bad. Some of the gags didn’t even read for the camera.
Maybe this group of acting savants should drop the snark and work on becoming someone as talented as Michael Cera.
Hilarious video, spot on. The UNFUNNY part of it is that he’s going to continue to make millions off of that same character for years to come.
Pretty funny. Lets attack Jack Black now. And Will Ferrel. And any other comic actor that does similar schtick in all their movies.
I’m a fan of Michael Cera, but I think Jesse Eisenberg must have been in Phi Beta Kappa of the MCSA.
SHUT YOUR FACE!!! *heavy panting* Jesse Eisenberg ROCKED Zombieland!! *heavy panting* How DARE you make compare Jesse to Michael FREAKIN’ Cera!! *pant, pant, pant* I have plenty of energy to come over there RIGHT NOW!
Gotta agree with you here; I LOVE Jesse Eisenberg, he was awesome in Zombieland and Squid and the Whale and Adventureland, and I can’t wait to see him in The Social Network. He may tend to play roles with geeky tendencies, but I completely buy him as a leading man and someone a girl would fall for, Cera- not so much, although as I stated above, the Cera bashing has gotten quite stale.
Geesh, I agree with a previous post, the list of Hollywood actors and actresses that have similar “range” would be enormous. Some were great—John Wayne and some were grating—Chevy Chase.
You should save something this scary for Halloween.
I bet Michael Ian Black wishes he were Michael Cera.
I love Cera’s schtick, I just think we see it too much. I love all of his “school’s” established alumni, too. Dah well.
The established alumni part is funny.
funny…but why is this news? why is this here, Nikki?
and agree with the above…Hollywood typecasts everyone and they basically play the same character over and over again. (omg, Heather Locklear was so different on this show — NOT!) Michael Cera’s body/voice/face limit him. he probably needs to go away and come back as a man in a few years. or go work behind the camera like Ron Howard (another actor who wasn’t ever gonna be a leading man!) did.
Why is this here? Because Nikki likes to drum up the Cera hate for site traffic. I love her, but it’s true.
