The story of Amanda Knox, the U.S. exchange student convicted by an Italian trial jury of brutally murdering her roommate, is getting the Hollywood treatment as a TV movie with Heroes star Hayden Panettiere as Knox. Lifetime has greenlighted the project, tentatively titled The Amanda Knox Story, from reality producer Craig Piligian (Ghost Hunters). It will air in 2011.
Knox became an international object of fascination not just because of her wholesome good looks but also because of the unbelievably gruesome facts of the crime. The media also unleashed revelations about her sex life (her nickname became Foxy Knoxy) after the then 20-year-old and her Italian boyfriend were arrested in November 2007. They were accused of killing Knox’s roommate, 21-year-old Meredith Kercher who was found slain inside the duo’s cottage in the medieval Italian town of Perugia after what prosecutors said was a violent night fueled by sex and drugs. The charges were that Knox, her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, and Ivory Coast native Rudy Guede, sexually assaulted Kercher and Knox slashed the roommate’s throat with a knife. Prosecutors described Knox as a “coiled spring” filled with vengeance because her “prissy roommate” had criticized her grooming and sexual habits.
After an 11-month trial, Knox last December was sentenced to 26 years in prison. Sollecito received 25 years and, in a separate trial, Guede received 30 years. Knox maintains her innocence and has appealed. The case also drew political attention when U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell from Knox’s home state of Washington assailed the guilty verdict, claiming it raised “serious questions about the Italian justice system and whether anti-Americanism tainted this trial”.
With its foreign locale and attractive defendants and victim, bizarre crime involving sex and drugs, and an All-American girl at its center, Knox’s case was long expected to get the Hollywood treatment. A bevy of young actresses, from Lindsay Lohan and Megan Fox to Emily Blunt and Kristen Stewart, were touted to play Knox. From Pilgrim Films and TV, The Amanda Knox Story will be directed by Robert Dornhelm from a script by Wendy Battles. Piligian, Battles, Trevor Walton, and Craig Anderson will exec produce with Randy Sutter producing.

Wow, Craig is doing scripted films for Lifetime now. Im surprised people still want to work with that asshole.
this is a Lifetime Movie…I really don’t think Kristen Stewart or Emily Blunt would have been able to stop laughing over the prospect of starring in a Lifetime Movie.
yeah youve got a point but i couldnt c either trying to play “america’s sweetheart” either. Then again kristen stewarT already has starred in a Lifetime movie- “Speak”. Hayden will hopefully fill the role as she needs to.
are u kidding me, Jennifer Love Hewitt won an award for a Lifetime movie she starred in called The Client List, so yeah u dont know what the hell u talkin about
How predictably smutty. One hopes that the Director will insist on sticking to the facts as described in detail by the Italian court. But, as we all know, smut sells, so the chances of this movie being accurate is close to nil. With a bit of luck, they will do a market survey first and realize the majority of people are not idiots and that they believe the facts, much to the anger and dismay of the select few who foolishly believe Amanda & Raffaele are innocent.
She’s getting exactly what she deserves and if she were anything but a white young attractive middle class American, they would think so too. This is the flip side of racism; giving positive qualifications onto a criminal based on looks and tribalism. I hope ‘made for tv’ is all this subject ever gets although I extremely doubt that. The prurient factor is just off the charts for this disgusting creature and “her” story.
Neil, you are indeed misguided and misinformed when it comes to the Knox trial. As someone who followed the trial closely and was living in Perugia at the time of said events, I find it repulsive that lifetime would even consider shooting this film at this time. The verdict is 99 percent going to be overturned once the slow moving Italian justice system finally allows the appeal to go through. Knox was convicted on paper thin evidence and simply the victim of the failed Italian justice system. Pressured by the US and their own government to “solve” the murder of Meredith, they rushed Knox and her boyfriend through an unethical trial and are simply waiting until all eyes are off them so they can overturn the verdict without too much criticism.
And the so called Foxy Knoxy nickname did not stem from a past of sexual deviance (I believe her Italian boyfriend was her FIRST boyfriend in fact) – it stemmed from a nickname she received as a teenager in high school soccer due to her ability to sneak up on the opposing team and steal the ball. It was her AIM screen name for god’s sake.
So Neil, Nikki, and to the misguided development execs at Lifetime – I hope you all are doing the correct research before you slander this poor girl’s name any further.
It’s a blatant lie that the media gave her the name Foxy Knoxy. Amanda called herself Foxy Knoxy in her facebook and she did not refer to her grade school soccer pet name. All of you FOAKERS seem to live in the LAND OF GUNMBY. Amanda was found guilty and all the spinning will not change this fact. It’s time that you get a life and go back on your meds
MY Neighbour’s daughter was studying and good friends with Meredith out there. She was the last person to ever have spoken face to face with her that night and he (my neighbour) was there during the trial to support his daughter as she was a key witness. KNOX is as guilty as they come! Once again the YANKS think that the laws should be somehow different for them! She’s guilty and should ROT in Jail for the short time they’ve given her for ending somebody elses daughter’s life! Until you also have children, and raise them……I believe there’s part of your emotional development that has laid dormant. If some American psycho took my daughter from me I’d actually WANT her to be freed too……………….sooner the better. I hope meredith’s parents already have someone ready to nip across, find her and deal out “an eye for an eye!”
So your neighbor’s daughter studied with Meredith and spoke to her the night she was murdered.. how does this give you any grounds to accuse Amanda Knox of being guilty? Or make any assumptions about her? Your neighbor may have known Meredith but clearly he knew nothing about Amanda, as do you. Can you honestly say that you know with absolute certainty that Amanda was the murderer? I am not saying I am absolutely certain she is innocent, because I am not.. however my point is that she was never given a fair trial. The media who did not know Amanda personally slammed these outrageous accusations about her personality to the public. how is this fair?
“Knox is as guilty as they come!” .. who the hell are you to say this about someone you know nothing about? thats what i call ignorance and regardless of whether Knox is innocent or not, it is people like you who cause unjust trials and taint potentially innocent peoples lives or at least chances at life. careful with what you say.. an eye for an eye? maybe one day you will be accused of something horrendous and i hope you then realise how people are so quick to judge without knowing the truth.
i dont mean to attack you, i just feel so frustrated when people make heavy accusations about others without knowing them first. as cheesy as it sounds, judging someone without knowing them first is simply an act of ignorance.+
AMEN to that!!!!!
Well said. If you are an American, you have restored my faith a little – I am Italian living in the states and I have been deeply offended on numerous occasions by how the media in the U.S. reported this story and made Italians look like a bunch of crazy lunatics. They are all guilty of such a shameful and senseless act!
Thank you for that post Eric. If any news organization wanted to interview Amanda Knox’s parents, they had to agree to portray her as innocent, and not talk about the actual facts. If people want to know the truth, http://WWW.TRUEJUSTICE.ORG has all the facts of the case. The first meeting with the police was the first of many lies. The communication police were investigating 2 cells phones that had been thrown into a neighbors yard. The neighbor heard one ringing, and called the police. She thought it could be used for terror attacks. The communication police showed up unexpectedly at the cottage, Amanda and Rafaelle were standing outside with a mop and bucket and told the police they had a broken pipe at Rafaelles apartment and also that something weird was going on inside. They then said they had already phoned the police. The police went in, and during this time, they did call the police to collaborate their story. Cell records show that they called after the police were already there. Lie 2, Amanda said they slept at Rafaelles apartment until 10 am. A store owner noticed Amanda outside his store before 8 am waiting for it to open. Police found a receipt for bleach and bleach at Rafaelles apartment. They actually found 2 receipts, one bottle was not enough for cleaning. Lie 3, Amanda said the night before they watched Amalie in the evening on Rafaelles computer. His computer showed no usage during this time.
Police asked if it was normal for Meredith to lock her door when she was home, Amanda said yes, even when she just goes to the bathroom. Another roommate told the police Meredith never locked her bedroom door.
The list of lies goes on and on.
Please check out http://WWW.TRUEJUSTICE.ORG for the facts of the case.
Your “facts” are untrue and repeating those lies again and again all over the internet does not make them true. There is zero chance that a case like this would have resulted in a conviction or even a case being brought to trial in this country because of the lack of evidence against anyone but Geude. The more I actually learn about this case the more convinced I am that Knox and her boyfriend were unjustly pursued in the absence of other suspects and when Guede appeared they were too far into it to let them go so they just added Geude to the story they concocted against Amanda and her bf.
I agree I truly believe that Amanda is not guilty.Set up YES they had to target someone why not another american.(her own friend) this way Italy “looks” like they have their S… together when they had nothing.I say get her back in the USA I have 2 daughters in their 20’s they are not perfect but I know my daughters, also know that the trial will not be fair we are all hearing more from the police dept.or should I say what they want us to hear, the more this crap is repeated over, over and over again thats all some people remember and start to believe.Get this girl home!!!!
“With its foreign locale and attractive defendants and victim…”
Correction. The ONLY attractive person in this tragedy was the victim, Meredith Kercher.
The defendants, all 3 of them, are homely losers. The actress choice to play Amanda Knox is unrealistic. Hopefully an excellent makeup artist will be hired on to portray the “ugliness” that is, Amanda Knox.
Totally agree with your statement here. I live part-time in Seattle and have to deal with the disgusting media love affair with Knox. A local Seattle attorney was, until recently, the big hired gun for Knox, spinning her case for the New York Times and the tele news magazines, until she got a DUI and tried to use “semantics” to get out of it before pleading guilty. Now that attorney’s credibility is ZILCH.
Knox now has the Hollywood Truth Machine to do her bidding in the form of a set-the-record-straight, burnish-her-image movie. Um, please pass me the barf bag.
The truth is a lot of people have such a hard time believing that this “pretty” (I think Knox is rather butt ugly compared to the REAL victim here — the dead girl, Meredith), “well-off child of privilege” could do such a heinous thing.
“She doesn’t look like a killer,” people say.
And whenever I hear such tripe (I mean, what DOES a killer look like? Not white or blonde or female?) I say to myself people are showing their racist selves. And if Amanda Knox were an overweight, dark-skinned, non-golden haired lass (think of the movie character from ‘Precious’) do you think people would be bending over backward to tell her life story?
I hope this movie tanks and that Knox keeps on rotting in an Italian jail scarfing down bad Italian food. (Note how quick she was to point the finger at the big, bad, dark Congolese co-worker who became a suspect until he was cleared.) Only a “conniving” witch (not the word I would use in a private conversation) would do a thing like that — not unlike the Washington state woman who blamed a phantom black person for throwing acid in her face this month, until it turns out she did the acid attack to herself. When in doubt, I guess, blame it on a black person.
Would do anything to read that Lifetime movie script…
yeah that must have been a totally racist thing of her to blame that guy Patrick. oh, but then they had to find another black guy to blame – and no one is arguing that he isn’t guilty. and he seems good enough looking to me from the photos I have seen. wonder how that happened.
fatigued, there’s more to this case than a deck of race cards. Look at the initial evidence the inspectors gathered. Over 30 shoe prints that they believed to be Raffaele’s [subsequent sleuthing would tie them to Guede] spread from the murder room and down the hall ; what the believed to be hair from an African found in murder room.. [further analysis would classify them as wool] On the afternoon of the day Amanda’s marathon grilling took place, they observed Amanda and Patrick meet. It was at that meeting Amanda told Patrick she was quitting the job working at his pub. One of the inspectors believed that only a woman would cover a murder victim with a duvet. Others at the scene felt Amanda and Raffaele acted strangely.
What happened next is what Nassim Taleb in”The Impact of the Highly Improbable [The Black Swan] calls “Epistemic Arrogance” as they had developed their theory about how the murder happened on weak evidence. Those ideas were sticky, so they held onto that initial theory, chossing to discount contradictory evidence. An open mind with all of the evidence in would not have gone forward with Amanda’s and Raff’s prosecution.
I so agree with you! It becomes so tiring to hear the “Amanda Knox- the A student- could NEVER have been involved with this heinous murder.” As if intelligence could ever guarantee a person’s good heart, or conduct!
Many sociopaths are highly intelligent. The better to pull the wool over peoples eyes with. Knox’s eyes say it well for me. They’re dead cold, even though she postures that “innocent” facade and big fake smile.
I think they were all equally attractive. Nice looking, not beautiful but nice looking. Including Rudy Guede. Based on looks alone, it seems altogether possible that either Amanda or Meredith could have found Rudy attractive. I don’t know why so many stories summarily dismiss that possibility.
I agree, all of the people involved in this case were fairly attractive. I really don’t see what that has to do with anything. Meredith was somewhat attractive, Guede is very handsome and Amanda is certainly not ugly. Rafele (the boyfriend)is very, very handsome.
Let’s hope that the script reflects the reality of the innocence of Amanda Knox/Raffaele Sollecito. Following is proof of innocence:
IMPROBABLE PARTICIPANTS – Amanda does not fit the profile of a killer; she doesn’t even fit the profile of a person capable of ANY violence. Knox/Sollecito quite obviously did not commit this murder.
MOTIVE – None; marijuana does not induce aggression
ALIBI – A 9:30 pm probable time of death (based on time of last meal, autopsy stomach contents, and victim’s phone activity) precludes the presence of Knox/Sollecito because of know computer activity
NO EVIDENCE OF PRESENCE IN THE BLOODY BEDROOM
NO UNEXPECTED EVIDENCE OF PRESENCE OUTSIDE THE BLOODY BEDROOM – They found Amanda’s DNA in her own bathroom? Astounding!
KNIVE, BRA CLASP, LUMINOL FOOTPRINTS, BATHMAT FOOTPRINT – ‘Evidence’ so dubious (or devious) that the prosecution contrived to withhold testing information; ‘evidence’ so dubious (or devious) that the prosecution continues to withhold testing information; ‘evidence’ so dubious (or devious) that the prosecution contrived to falsify amounts and measurements.
NO CREDITABLE WITNESSES — The shopkeeper’s testimony is disputed by four other people; the homeless man’s testimony provides an alibi with the 9:30 pm time of death; the scream Nara claimed to hear at 11:30 pm is at odds with known activity and the probable time of death.
Oh dear, Sept79, the capitals that you use in your rant is indicative of your angry and misguided persona. Do you really think a couple of arb generalizations of abstract aspects of the entire investigation, prosecution and conviction is going to fool any level-headed person? Intelligent people have read the 140 page motivation report and have made up their own minds. They will not be swayed by aggressive incompetence and single-minded obsession.
Oh dear Terence. So many of us are so so tired of the court’s motivation report being held up as “facts”. It is by a one sided, biased report – a report that has the sole purpose of justifying their verdict. Which begs the question entirely of intelligent discussion.
Intelligent people worldwide HAVE read that report, and appreciate it for what it is, and within that report there is plenty of logic, or illogic, to be concerned about.
You DO realize that the report contains “their version of the ‘facts'”, which is precisely what is at issue? Don’t you?
If you decide to believe those “facts”, that is your choice. But to misstate the purpose of the report is so one sided as to border on malicious. To insult the writer’s intelligence, and and as support site the court’s report as definitive belies your intelligence. Kindly make better arguments for your belief of guilt – it will be more productive and win more people over to your view, if you can present a coherent argument that does not employ half truths which are used too often in this discussion.
To wit, half truth = Massei report states the facts, the only facts, amen.
oops – “site” should be “cite”. other typos? this is a blog…
the second sentence should read “…It is by a one sided, biased report…”
why won’t this blog let me type “definition” ?
Apparently you haven’t read the report. If you had, you’d know that it is not 140 pages. More like 427.
I agree I truly hope the script does reflect the total innocence of Amanda and Raffaele. We want the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth! Free Amanda and Raffaele!
Yeah, how about starting with the American court system. Got enough socio-economic injustices going on there. Oh but that is different isn’t it? No nice young white RICH girls in that scenario. Yeah, I wonder how many minorities are involved in this “save Amanda” campaign? My guess, ziltch. The truth, THE WHOLE TRUTH!
THE WHOLE TRUTH! Exactly! watch it on ABC tonight at 10pm!
unfortunately we have to hear these comments. Miss KittyWatters expressed a desire for the “whole truth”, and that gets morphed into an expression of a dislike of the American court system, and somehow the next step is comments about rich white girls and then minorities, and “socioeconomic injustices” etc.
This is where racism and anti-Americanism sentiments get launched. If you don’t like “rich” or “white” or “girls” or “american”, then show your stripes, and if your feelings are hurt that someone cares about Amanda (rich? – no) and/or Raffaele (American – no. Girl? – no), then don’t use other injustices as an excuse to make them suffer injustice. That logic is in itself racist and anti-American. such comments dilute any real conversation about this case.
“IMPROBABLE PARTICIPANTS – Amanda does not fit the profile of a killer; she doesn’t even fit the profile of a person capable of ANY violence. Knox/Sollecito quite obviously did not commit this murder. ‘
Oh yeah? Well tell that to the charred remains of the Connecticut mother and her two daughters (the Petit family) whose KILLERS raped and killed the mother, then raped the 11-year-old daughter then burned her and her 17-year-old sister TO DEATH. Those killers were WHITE, and one, Komisaryevsky, came from a famiy of prominent lineage, including a greatgrandmother who was a russian princess. His mother was a librarian who gave him an education (especially in literature) equal to that of the average prep-schooler, and from an early age the traveled the world with his learned grandfather to christian seminars and events.
Take a reality-check pill and swallow hard, honey. White people from good backgrounds ARE capable of violence, so your “profile” analysis isn’t worth squat.
The “improbable participant” description can be criticised.
But what has the Joshua Komisjarevsky profile have to do with this case? He was a career criminal with 21 felony convictions spanning 30 years. Do you talk about him to give an example of someone totally different?
Wow. Where did that come from?
typo in previous post…should read 400 page motivation report…
Okay sorry.
Gee Sept79, have you read the Judge’s report?
I’ll bet the producer’s of this film have, or will in order to portray an accurate accounting of what happened to Meredith Kercher.
Hayden Panettiere is a fabulous actress. I’m sure as an expert in her craft, she will study the Massei Motivation Report in depth to get a feel for the sociopath she is to portray.
I am counting on Lifetime to follow the facts of the case. All 3 defendants, Amanda Knox, Raffaele Sollecito and Rudy Guede were convicted of brutally murdering Meredith Kercher.
The Judge’s Report noted above can be downloaded at:
http://www.perugiamurderfile.org

“Gee Sept79, have you read the Judge’s report…”
That’s a hoot since the judge’s report absolves the accused completely. And yes, I’ve read it, several times.
that report is an opinion.
Raw data are the “facts”
I find Amanda to be an entitled type ‘a’ major ‘b’ (regardless what some Americans think otherwise) THING. But that said, it is ironic that a Hollywood film is casting an actress who is LESS attractive than the real person.
for god sake this has nothing to do with looks.I feel sick that a young girl was killed and her friend is being framed along with her boyfriend. My prays go out to these families.Sorry but I dont trust the Italian Justice system.Get Amanda Knox home.
For those who actually looked carefully at the circumstantial evidence, the case is a sham. As stated above, Amanda & Raffaele were not capable of such a crime, and the whole conviction was based on smoke and mirrors – the railroad job from hell.
Even the Italians admit their justice system is greatly flawed – although they greatly resent Americans pointing it out. However, this wrongful conviction is the work of a small number of ruthless Italian officials who’s cultural narrowness made it impossible to understand a free-spirited and eccentric Seattle girl.
While the imprisonment of two innocent young people is too tragic to speculate about actresses, I believe only Ellen Page has the depth to portray Amanda, and make this the serious move about a great miscarriage of justice.
Amanda Knox is innocent. Read the appeal.
http://www.injusticeinperugia.org/Amanda_Knox_Appeal.pdf.
All of the discrepancies and fallacies of the prosecution’s case are laid bare. It is a disgrace that these people are making a movie about a travesty of justice and the smearing of an innocent woman’s reputation. If people educated themselves about this case they would be screaming for Mignini’s head.
I would like to read the appeal. But the link gives the Italian document. I will have to brush up on my Italian… Any idea where an English version can be found?
Yes, it’s in Italian, as it is the official court document compiled by Amanda’s lawyers. I am unaware of an English translation. The website, http://www.injusticeinperugia.org/Appeal.html, gives a synopsis, but is not nearly as thorough. I read the Italian doc and I think that the injustice in perugia site is fair. Also, everything the retired FBI agent, Steve Moore, has said about the case is supported by the appeal. I wish more people could read the original Italian document, since everything in it is supported with documentation from the trial transcripts. And, in my view, it is much more solid than the jury’s motivation report, which seems to be largely based on conjecture and a faulty reading of the evidence. For example, the “evidence” of the luminol traces are decimated in the appeal. As is the supposed staged break-in.
I predict this project will get quietly cancelled when the Lifetime Network realizes how much hate mail they’re going to get, no matter how they portray this case. Because the case seems to bring out the crazy and irrational in a lot of people.
For example: it’s just not rational to claim that Amanda and Raffaele *can’t* be guilty because they are the only two humans ever born who are utterly incapable of murder. When you’re as young as they are, drugs, sex, and total freedom from parental supervision are potent mind-altering experiences. I think we’re all lucky we didn’t murder someone when we were young, stupid, filled with painfully intense insecurities and grandiose fantasies, and drugged out of our minds.
Likewise, it’s not rational to get off on hating these extremely young people, who are after all in prison now, having been convicted on what looks to me like ample evidence to implicate them. If they’re innocent, let’s just let their lawyers prove it to the court. None of us who hasn’t seen the evidence can really know for sure one way or the other. This case is a tragedy and I think the only sane response to it is sadness, compassion, and doing what we can to prevent it from happening again.
there is a reason most young people do not commit murders.
Joran van der Sloot.
the exception that proves the rule
I don’t agree that people think Amanda and Raffaele are innocent because they are young and attractive. People are concerned about the absence of credible evidence to convict them. The prosecution’s case was so outrageous that the jury didn’t even buy it. Instead they came up with this weird “it was a spontaneous choice of evil” garbage. This idea that Amanda just carried around a 31cm kitchen knife in her purse everywhere she went. Their reasoning was ridiculous. Another example: the idea that it would be “too hard” to break into the cottage, therefore the burglary was staged. Anyone with an impartial mind can look at the photos of that cottage and see that it would be simple to get in that window. And yet they construct this house of cards on conjecture and tortured reasoning. Why?
Innocent until proven guilty. The question about whether A and R *could* be guilty is irrelevant.
One of those rare instances where the real person is hotter than the actress playing her…
Best thing Lifetime’s got going. Project has two huge positives: controversy and Battles. The former’s great marketing. The latter’s a damn good writer.
In what world is this woman a “Fox”? I hate to quantify it like this, but because her looks are part of the discussion here for various reasons…I don’t think she’s more than a 7 or 7.5. I mean, I go for crazy, so I’d probably flirt with her at a party or something, but the google photos make her look rather…average. Attractive, yes, I suppose. But not striking or memorable in any way.
Hayden Panettiere however, she is a “Fox”. Had my eye on her since The Dust Factory. Yeah, I saw that one, in theaters even.
Hey Fatigued, don’t you think it strange that you and a small minority believe those ‘wholesome’ kids to be innocent and everyone else can see the real story here. Do you really believe that EVERYONE that gave input into this legal process are ‘out to get Amanda’! Are you that blind? Or do you have another agenda?
um, I think she’s innocent and plenty others do too.
I love Italy and Italians, but the country is known for certain corruptions. Yes, I know USA is very flawed too, but not all countries are the same.
I don’t think she’s innocent – I don’t know anyone who does, and most importantly, the jury did not find them innocent. Convicted murderers all three – Knox, Guede, Sollecito. Scum.
Well, I know many people who believe there was a grave miscarriage of justice here including the Idaho Innocence Project. Do you know how many innocent people get convicted? The Innocence Project has freed many of them. This case is worse because of the foreign corruption element established by the whacked out and sexually obsessed prosecutor who has already been convicted of abusing his authority.
When I first heard about this I assumed they were guilty. But then I read about the “evidence” being used, the trashing of the accused in the media and the blood lust against this young girl with no criminal background but who slept with a guy, messed up her bathroom and smoked dope. Please, Salem Witch Trial anyone. Toss in the crazy prosecutor and anyone who can think this was a fair process has to be completely brain dead.
If the “evidence” used to convict her is all they have, then I, along with many others on this sight, agree to her innocence. They may have some “surprise” evidence, in that case, maybe they will get a second conviction.
yes, many people believe that the trial was questionable at best. convictions of innocent people happen all too often, and in each and every instance someone like you undoubtedly asked the rhetorical “do you think EVERYONE was out to get her?” Err, pick your travesty of justice and location, and the story is the same. do you really think that such comments add to the conversation?
I don’t know what your agenda is, but I am concerned about a young man and a young woman who are spending time in prison for something that appears to me, after spending considerable time wading through noise and emotions, to be convicted based upon preconceived theories that are the product of a few people with too much power. You don’t have to agree, but to deny people’s right to examine the process and express concern would be… what? It would be your fantasy that people would just sit back and say, oh, they were convicted so it must be right. Duh. You need to mellow out on your “blindness” or “agenda” comments. That makes you suspect.
“You don’t have to agree, but to deny people’s right to examine the process and express concern would be… what?”
No one cares if you “examine the process” (by the way, were you in the courtroom for all tesimony and presentation of evidence, which would of course be the very definition of “exmaining” the ENTIRE judicial process?) But when you make BLANKET, BIASED statements such as “Amanda does not fit the profile of a killer; she doesn’t even fit the profile of a person capable of ANY violence. Knox/Sollecito quite obviously did not commit this murder,” then you open yourself to the richly deserved ridicule you recieve.
There is NO SUCH THING as only ONE profile of a killer. They come in all shapes, colors, sizes and from all socio-economic backgrounds. So becuse YOU have decided she is incapable of murder based on nothing more than YOUR perception of good and evil, well, your conclusion is simply laughable. Your opinion is based on nothing other than your own biases. No one else is bound to accept them. And how about showing as much concern for the dead girl as you seem to show for the woman who has been convicted of KILLING her.
for heavens sake, what idiocy are you ranting? Were YOU in the court room every day? Any day?!? Have YOU examined every document, every court transcript?
I did not make any blanket statements. You did. Send your richly deserved criticism back to yourself.
Don’t spread your BS about caring for the dead girl garbage. That is an absolute non sequitur. I can care very much for Meredith Kercher, and at the same time care very much for Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito. In fact, by caring for AK and RS, I am demonstrating very much that I care about justice for Meredith.
You obviously need to blow off steam. Just don’t do it illogically in my direction.
Again, can we stop with the profiling nonsense. No one is saying she’s innocent because she is white, pretty, or whatever. Whatever your background, you need *proof beyond a reasonable doubt* to convict. Lots of us have plenty of reasonable doubt. Ergo, we believe she should have been acquitted.
The similarities between this case and that of the West Memphis Three are striking. False “confession” implicating someone else, lack of any forensic evidence, media frenzy, and the defendant was “different” — wore black, “weird” haircut, etc. How often have we heard that Amanda’s behavior was inappropriate? As if behaving inappropriately were a gateway crime to murder.
Thank you Nellie for this story! I love everyone’s opinion and hope it translates to ratings!! Bravo mto Lifetime for having the courage to step up and do a controversal film…get it cast…and film it in Rome!!! Thank god I have a client on the movie :-)
~swifty
Hi Swifty,
Tell me, has anybody involved in the film bothered to consult with the Kerchers getting their thoughts on this?
Me thinks not reading the Daily Mail article.
How does it feel to profit off a beautiful young woman’s murder?
This will never air before the appeals are complete. Guaranteed.
The Kerchers dont come into this apparently.
Its all about getting Knox home. Whether she is a killer or not is irrelevant – her parents want her back. No doubt they forgive her for what she did the first time she cried her crocodile tears.
This film will totally disrespect the memory of Meredith Kercher by riding it to the box office. However, others, such as the small town prosecutor, G. Magnini, are also riding the blood trail to fame.
The big losers resulting from this film will be Italy and the Italian tourism industry, the small town of Perugia and the highly profitable foreign exchange universities in Italy. But it is justly fitting because of their total complacency in delivering the truth and controlling their own local characters. Italy was totally seduced by the salaciousness of the story. I hope the film brings out the strong anti-American feeling in Perugia (example: the prosecution asked for 9 month of solitary confinement for Knox and only two months for the Italian boy).
Also the local hygiene. The prosecution asked Knox why she returned to her home after spending the night at her friend’s house and she relied to take a shower. The prosecution called her a liar because she had showered the day before and NOBODY needed to took a shower two days in a row!
And I hope that no one is harmed in the filming of the beating Knox took at the hands of the police.
I agree totally on your first point: This film will totally disrespect the memory of Meredith Kercher.
The rest of your post seems to be very bizarre to me. From getting the name of the public minister wrong, suggesting there is anti-Americanism in Perugia and comments on local hygenine….seriously?! I thought the question with regards to the shower was essentially that Knox had plans to go out that day and there was a perfectly good shower at Sollecito’s flat as evidenced by her using it the night before so why did she go elsewhere? There is no need to be rude to a whole nation by implying they are unhygenic. It is simply childish and unhelpful so to do.
I should also point out that what you describe as “solitary confinement” is not exactly that it is actually a period of time to be spent in isolation during the day – your words suggest something inhumane like being locked in a room with no human contact for 9 months, and that implication is incorrect. I am sure you would agree that it is important not to sensationalise the facts as that could lead to misrepresentation and misunderstanding.
Care to provide any evidence for that beating accusation?
There is none. Its another Knox fabrication created as she wriggled on the hook and blamed everybody else for the crime.
Take note – Americas impartiality will be judged on the results of this film. Dont mess it up.
Well, anyone who judges all Americans on the basis of a Lifetime film needs to have his/her head examined. It’s LIFETIME for pete’s sake. It cracks me up when people act as if “America” were some sort of monolithic group. Anything but. As for evidence for the beating, what evidence could there possibly be, when Amanda was not provided a lawyer and not tapes of the interrogation have surfaced? Are we supposed to think that these police officers are going to admit it??? What we DO have is Lumumba’s statements that he too was beaten by the police. We have a confused, incoherent statement signed by Amanda which has all the hallmarks of a coerced “confession”. We have the fact that she attempted to clarify it the next day, another hallmark sign of a coerced statement. The Innocence Project has good information online about why people confess to crimes they didn’t commit. It happens more than anyone would ever think. We also have some 30 young healthy people who have died in Italian prisons of unknown causes in the past 5 years that are under investigation. Hmmmm.
What cracks me up most is the huge benefit of the doubt that many Knox supporters give her.
Knox didnt repeatedly lie over a period of days – no she was coerced. Its an italian conspiracy.
Thankfully a COURT got to decide her guilt, not internet posters influenced by the Save-Knoxey campaign. A campaign that has drawn worldwide condemnation for its mis-information tactics (except in the USA of course).
I agree the USA is not a single entity, but with respect to this case it has been reported that way. Would you say the sentiment is with Knoxy, or against her? I think I know which it is.
The USA will be judged on this film. Its already made the national media in Europe and we are expecting, as I sense you are, a fictional one sided display reflecting American sentiment rather than the facts of the case.
Tony da Bozo said:
“Also the local hygiene. The prosecution asked Knox why she returned to her home after spending the night at her friend’s house and she relied to take a shower. The prosecution called her a liar because she had showered the day before and NOBODY needed to took a shower two days in a row!”
Tony you miss the point of that part of her questioning on the stand. What she testified to about showering and washing her hair that morning does not tally with the observations of the many investigators she spoke to On Nov 2nd when Meredith’s body was discovered. They noted that she smelled very strong of B.O. and you can see for yourself in the photographs that her hair definitely does not looked freshly washed at all.
Please find another way to vent your ignorant anger than telling lies and pedalling hate.
You are totally wrong. Knox was questioned hard about how she could take a shower in a room with blood and in a cold house, the door having been open all night as well as the window Rudy Guede broke.
If there was any “B.O.”, it was Italian.
Magnini himself reported that he did not visit the murder site for 4 days because his hair was dirty. No doubt !!
A couple of points:
1) The court ascertained that Guede did not break the window. He was uninvolved in the staging of a break-in at the property. Knox and Sollecito were charged with and found guilty of staging the break-in; and,
2) I presume you are referring to the Public Minister in your last paragraph. If so, you might like to get his name right. If not, please clarify about whom you speak.
The court ascertained that Guede did not stage the break-in. But the court came very far from proving that the break-in was staged. There is clear evidence of a rock hitting the inside shutter of the window from the outside. The spray of glass all over the floor clearly indicates a rock that came from the outside. Guede had a history of breaking into places via a window with a rock. Guede broke into a law office in Perugia and a daycare in Milan only a few days before the murder. He was also known to carry a knife. The break-in was not staged, even if Mignini wants you to think that it was.

Unrelated ‘expert’ gives report favourable for Knoxey. Blah blah blah.
Its just part of an orchestrated campaign. Why should we believe YOUR retired expert (who has written four other articles for the same campaign site – biased much?) over the experts who gave evidence in court?
The verdict was right and a murdering siren went down for it.
Amanda Knox is a convicted murderer, after a year long trial and a mountain of evidence. She and her lover Sollecito were represented by the best defense attorneys in Italy. Still found guilty. Poor poor by-otch, who slit her flatmate’s throat and let her bleed to death in agony…poor poor killer by-otch. Rot killer by-otch!
Christ on a dinosaur!
Amanda Knox was not mistreated by the police in any way, let alone beaten! …and repeating this lie has landed her mother and father in trouble. Amanda and her parents have been indicted defamation. Those trials will be proceeding soon.
And no, not at all are they being “railroaded”. Amanda is messed up and her parents aren’t helping her by trying to cover up for her.
Raffaele Sollecito’s family are in trouble, too. They tried to use their influence to have the prosecutors and head investigator removed from the case. His sister, Vanessa, was sacked from her job as an officer in the Carabineri (national police)for this . (I should hope so!) They’ve also had to pay substanial damages to the victim’s family for making a confidential police crime scene video which included footage of the victim’s remains available to Telenorba (TV station) who subsequently broadcast it.
I believe some of these details have been unavailable to audiences of US news broadcasts, including an Emmy nominee, for heaven’s sake, for a film so full of false and misleading claims in very shouty tones that it should only have been allowed to be nominated in a satire category. Producer or network kicking themselves? The producer certainly is, at least for trying to blackmail Letterman. If this crap gets an Emmy, well, black must be white.
I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that the film had been pitched to Haldeman directly by David Mariott, Amanda Knox’s PR agent. Marriott would be able to assist with lots of helpful suggestions! He was able to help the networks, too.
These details have been unavailable in the US? In what way do these details support the guilty verdict for Amanda and Raffaele? Could it be that Raffaele’s sister’s employment status is not relevant to the question of innocence or guilt, and that’s why the US media has not been terribly interested in it? And by the way, there has been nothing reported in the US media about the faulty EVIDENCE that isn’t fully supported in the appeal.
I think this film is a very bad idea. It is totally disrespectful of a) the victim, Meredith Kercher and her family who clearly do not want their daughter’s death to be twisted into ‘entertainment’ and b) the Italian judicial system – I can hear the keyboards of those who constantly attack the Italian judiciary going already, but hear me out – Knox’s lawyers, and those of Sollecito, have spoken out against any such film being made whilst the judicial process is continuing. Knox has two automatic appeals yet to be heard and only once they are both completed will the judgement be final. Knox’s own (excellent) legal team think this is a bad idea. It is.
(Link to story in Italian with comments from the lawyers as noted above: http://magazine.libero.it/cinema/generali/ne.php?id=11754111 )
Rudy Guede got 30 years because he essentially decided to plead guilty. having accepted that much responsibility, why doesn’t he clear Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito? If they are in fact innocent — and we have to assume he would know, since he effectively admited to having been there — why doesn’t he say so? Or is he out to get them too?
Rudy Guede has everything in the world to gain from a guilty verdict for Amanda and Raffaele. His 30 year sentence was reduced to 16 years on appeal because the court found that he was only complicit whereas Amanda and Raffaele actually committed the crime. This notwithstanding the complete absence of forensic material from Amanda at the crime scene. So there’s justice for you Italian style: the girl who left no forensic material at the crime scene, had no motive, and no history of violence is given a harsher sentence than the guy who left his DNA, fingerprints, and footprints all over the crime scene and had a history of burglary. And Guede gets yet another appeal, so you bet that he will continue to blame amanda and Raffaele. And let’s not forget that in a police-tapped conversation with a friend early in the investigation, he said that Amanda and Raffaele were NOT there.
For those who still believe Amanda Knox murdered Meredith Kercher, download the report on the trial: http://www.scribd.com/doc/37096242/Massei-Report-v10-PMF-Aug-8-2010
Go to Page 211 Read. No trace specimen ascribable to Amanda Knox was found [repertata] in the victim’s room.
Go to Page 280 “Amanda was not wounded; in the days following no one spoke of wounds that she might have had; the examination which was carried out on her when measures restricting her personal freedom were taken ruled out the presence of wounds.”
Spend some time reading up on that knife that she supposedly used. Consequently, the confiscated knife, Exhibit 36, with a blade length of a good 17cm, could not have caused a cut of 8cm. Ask why no bloody clothing of Amanda’s was discovered or why weren’t there traces of Meredith in Amanda’s purse. She was convicted of disposing of the cell phone and credit cards. Ask why on Rudy’s and Meredith’s traces were found in Meredith’s purse.
Take time to read all 397 pages, especially the summary, then find evidence to back their conclusions. I tried and came away convinced she is innocent. I hope the appeal sees it as I do and the movie portrays the facts.
The Massi report is heavily referenced on the Kercher TrueJustice site, and was indeed translated by supporters on that site.
You’d have to be pretty partisan to read it as supporting the Knox case!
I would bet money on the fact that all the people on here saying Amanda Knox is innocent are American. During the trial, the American media constantly attacked the Italian justice system and twisted the evidence, making out Amanda Knox to be the victim rather than Meredith. A great example of this is the people on here clinging to the shower comment (which several other people have already pointed out has been taken out of context) and being extremely rude about Italians and their justice system. Really, what would you know about it? You just see a ‘nice’ looking, ‘all-American’, ‘normal’ girl and can’t believe she could possibly be involved? Do none of you remember cases like this before, where a supposedly ‘nice’ girl does something dreadful? It’s not the first time a pretty young girl has turned to sexual violence and murder, and it won’t be the last.
Your media was entirely biased towards Amanda Knox and you’ve all fallen for it – how gullible is that? Nobody else in the world was feeling sorry for Amanda and thinking she’s a poor girl accused of something she didn’t do. She isn’t, she is a CONVICTED MURDERER and the only people who can’t see that are Americans. Open your eyes!
This is what concerns me about this film – if it was being made in any other country, it would do Meredith justice and show Amanda Knox as the deceptive, evil killer that she is. As this is being made by Americans, I fear this film will follow the angle that your media took on the case and will make her out to be some kind of wrongly-accused victim, locked up for something she didn’t do. That is disrespectful to Meredith and her family – Amanda Knox is a murderer and is where she should be, in prison. Even the title of this film winds me up – it should be called ‘The Meredith Kercher story’.
Her case got zero coverage her in the states. I had to go online during the trail to read the latest updates. And most of those updates came from British news groups. They too found Amanda guilty. Only after reviewing the “evidence” myself did I come to my own conclusions that Amanda is 100% innocent. She was/is a clear victim of a witch trial.
PS – looks are irrelevant, but I agree that Amanda is extremely ‘average’ looking whereas Merdith was truly beautiful. Amanda was jealous of her beautiful housemate, and bitter about the fact that Meredith thought she was a bit of a slut. And, let’s face it, Meredith was right.
