The 2010 Drama Desk Awards nominations were announced today. Among the surprises is that Addam’s Family, despite initially getting pummeled by critics, is up for Outstanding Musical, one of eight award nominations. While  the splendidly reviewed Fences was nominated for Outstanding Play Revival, Denzel Washington wasn’t nominated for Best Actor. His co-star, Viola Davis was nominated in the Featured Actress category. Among the film actors nominated are Jude Law for Hamlet, Alfred Molina for Red, Liev Schreiber for A View From the Bridge, Anne Hathaway for Twelfth Night and Laura Linney for Time Stands Still. The season is fast coming to a close: The Lucille Lortel Awards for Off-Broadway were handed out last night (The Orphans’ Home Cycle won Outstanding Play, The Scottsboro Boys won Outstanding Musical), and Tony nominations will be revealed tomorrow.
