Fox launched Fox international productions back in May 2008 with a mandate to develop partnerships with local producers making foreign-language films for overseas distribution. Fortissimo chairman Michael J Werner has worked with the studio in the past. Now the Dutch sales agent has struck a deal to handle most overseas territories on Fox International Productions’ foreign-language movies.
Kicking off the transaction are two FIP titles still in post-production: Italian gangster film Vallanzasca and Russian action thriller Alien Girl. Paz Vega (Spanglish), Moritz Bleibtreu (Der Baader Meinhof Complex) and Rossi Stuart (Romanzo Criminale) star in Vallanzasca, based on the true story of an infamous Italian 70s mobster. Fortissimo is selling all rights outside Italy, France, German and Scandinavia. Fox will release the US/Italian co-production in Italy and Germany this autumn.
Meanwhile, Fox will premiere Alien Girl in Russia on June 17. This is a revenge thriller about a lone woman fighting off four hitmen dispatched to kill her. Natalia Romanycheva stars and the director is Anton Barmatov. Fortissimo is handling all rights outside of Russia.
