Akiva Goldsman, who began as a writer and branched into producing, is now taking a turn in the director’s chair.
Goldsman has closed a deal to helm Man and Wife, a 20th Century Fox drama about an assassin who’s hired to kill a family but becomes conflicted when he falls in love with them. Alan McElroy wrote the script and Jason Keller is rewriting. Chernin Entertainment’s Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark will produce with Ralph Winter. Clark, the former Universal exec, has history with Goldsman on films like Cinderella Man. The film had been a rumored vehicle for Goldsman.
Goldsman is also a producer on Fair Game, which just premiered in Cannes and will be released by Summit, as well as the upcoming Warner Bros drama Jonah Hex, which stars Josh Brolin and Megan Fox. Goldsman is also set to adapt Stephen King’s Dark Tower as a Ron Howard-directed trilogy that Imagine’s Brian Grazer will produce with Goldsman and King. That deal is still making, but the plan is to generate films and a concurrent TV series. A deal is expected to close shortly at Universal.
